It was a pleasure to go and watch multiple games at the world cup - everything was super smooth, and unlike going to a game in London, there was no scrum for transport, no drunk fans swearing and cursing everywhere, no gangs of lads looking to pickpocket, no touts selling tickets, and very few visible police needed. Zero trouble. Zero aggression. Zero aggressive blokes stinking of booze on the tube. It was brilliant and a very safe place to watch games with my young sons....

I’m from Bury in Manchester and have lived and worked in Qatar since 2010. The amount of negative press in UK news and media in the lead up to the start of the World Cup in Qatar has been shameful. Anything and everything that can be negative was dragged up. The amount of preparation, rehearsals and trails that’s been going on for the last few months has been amazing. Whatever anyone’s views are on how the bid was won, or the countries laws or beliefs, please, it’s time now to actually look how the tournament has been organised and run and give credit where it is due. I totally agree that alcohol should not be allowed at the stadiums. It’s available at other locations if needed. The atmosphere here is amazing, like one big party where everyone gets on with everyone no matter where they are from in the world. On the evening of the opening ceremony, it was not shown live on UK TV, instead we had Gary Lineker on Match of the Day giving us a mini documentary about LGBT and migrant workers. Shameful. Lots of UK ex pats are totally utterly ashamed of all the crap that’s been in the UK media in the weeks before the tournament began.

I live in Wembley and it was much much worse than the media portrayed - they weren't there to even document it. For a start the Invasions by english fans also happened in the Italy semi final! These English fans trashed up the local area, tube stations, takeaways and even shopping center (designer outlet). Loads of innocent locals were assulted. Law of the land is on its head in this country - criminals have more rights than victims. And a minority? Even tho Qatar has its flaws we have to be honest it’s been a pretty decent World Cup and unlike many other places that have been the host country Qatar has been extremely safe for the fans, no trouble or nothing
@billsykes9605 Жыл бұрын
Plenty of alcohol in South Africa & Russia and no trouble. I was in Qatar and we either drank in Red Lion, Saraya Hotel (roof top) or Premier Inn - no problems at all. The trouble is always when we play in €urope - cheap flights, will attract yobbos.
@SeattleSpursFan1882 Жыл бұрын
It's like comparing Apple and Oranges. They hasn't been the mass influx or English or Wales supporters in Qatar. It's only been people of a certain economic standard (the rich) who probably don't drink like their economic counterparts (the poor). The Qatar World Cup has been a very dry affair (pun intended). It's sucked to be honest as there has been zero atmosphere outside the propaganda machine in full tilt. Frankly, I'm looking forward to the return of the Premier League and I'm looking forward to the return of a proper World Cup when it arrives in North America in 2026.

Four main reasons for the no-arrest statistic, are very expensive to get there, very expensive alcohol, less other snorting substances, and mainly the fear of severe punishment.

I think Jim was trying to go down the alcohol route for explaining why the fans were well behaved, given Jim’s past with it. And Simon mistook it for Jim having another go at the English! These arguments always happen when you have spent too much time together as they likely have in Qatar, you end up pissing each other off. Also strange they’ve come back now - before an England quarter-final. Did something happen and they got sent home?! There’s a fine line between banter and arguing. Hope they put that behind them - there’s good chemistry there.
@KelbornXx Жыл бұрын
There hasn't been any significant bad behaviour by English fans at a world cup since Germany 2006. The last Euro's were good apart from the final. Euro 2016 there was trouble mostly caused by Russian 'fans' targeting English supporters and local Marseille hooligans targeting England supporters at bars.
@bluesEvanskro Жыл бұрын
Yeah apart from the euros last year (not excusing it because it was just a bad day all round) I think we’ve been okay lately And like you say in 2016 we were targeted by the Russian hooligans and it was nice to see that the entire world didn’t blame us for it, welsh fans and English fans even United against the Russians haha
