Erica has said that she got nervous, forgot her line and just called Clark “Smallville”. While it was coined in other versions like the 96 Superman animated series, Erica improvised it for the show & it quickly became her nickname for Clark. The best part of this episode were all the banter scenes with Lois and Clark. The chemistry is already on fire ❤️🔥

LOL we get it Tom she is amazing, and he got to work with her so he would know. BTW I love how Tom just gets it when it comes to Lois as well. He points how she’s confident, and isn’t apologetic and has a heart of gold- something Tom can attest to with Erica who also has a heart of gold. YESSS. . . I never understood why it was such a big deal to the naysayers about how much time was spent in Metropolis in the later seasons. "Smallville" was in Clark's heart. they literally could've had him off world for an entire season and the title would still be appropriate cuz Smallville was who Clark was. And I want to talk about Tom and Erica's chemistry and how great of comedic actors they both are with fantastic comedic timing, just playing off each other so naturally, just snap snap snap, super fun. With years they will turn into such a formidable team, a true dynamic duo that's a joy to watch! Plus it's so good that Tom's now given such comedic material thanks to Lois, he's a natural in the genre. Oh and loved you guys standing up for Erica about her unfair deal/contract, great to see.
@Vixin2411 ай бұрын
Haha literally me too. Throughout the whole show, even in slower episodes I always found every Lois scene great and fun! And I totally agree that bringing Lois in and having scenes with Clark really allowed Clark more comedic material. He had great banter and lightheartedness with her that he didn't have with Lana or Lex (because of all the drama) so it was always really refreshing when they were together. And then even later when they become a couple, they still maintain that fun energy!

Well, it is, in reality, a bit difficult to have a formal interaction with someone you met while he was fully nude. I feel like that would set a sort of tone for their friendship going forward. Especially considering how forward Lois is. Think about any of your closest friends. How would your friendship be any different if the first time you ever met them, they were fully nude, making no attempt to conceal themselves. That would probably set a certain tone for your friendship.

That line was foreshadowing. The writers did a lot of forshadowing like Lois saying to Martha give me a nerd with glasses in the season 4 premiere. If you watch the Clark-Lana-Lois scene in this ep there was no indication that he had a thing for Lois in that scene. It was Lois actually who noticed the awkward tension between Clark & Lana. I think Lana assumed that he was with Lois cause Lois probably told her to bring her to the Kent farm cause she lived there atp and Lana jumped to conclusions.

The main reason Erica wasn't in the credits for S4 was that she was only allowed to be a guest in a limited amount episodes for S4. The WB had so many restrictions on what was allowed on the show including how much Smallville was able to have Lois on. Fortunately from S5 those restrictions slowly got lifted as the seasons went on. Also, Lois has always infamously nicknamed Clark "Smallville" across the entire Superman universe, so it made sense for Erica's Lois to also call Clark Smallville. And yes, it's pretty obvious what Lois meant when she mentioned Clark's Junior lol. Gone is a fine episode. I agree it's not as good as Crusade but it still had some good stuff in it. The shower scene will always be my favourite just because of how comical it was and the look on Martha's face. If Clark had tried to explain it wouldn't have been quite so funny, but he stipulated afterwards that they took separate showers. I always liked how Lana foreshadowed Clark and Lois when she and Clark were talking in the caves. "Lois? She's bossy, she's stuck up, she's rude. I can't stand her." And Lana replies "the best ones always start that way".

Michael is so angry at the show because he is clearly an angry man. First of all, he lives in California. That, alone, is a big factor in anyone's life that would sadden most. Second, he's eternally single, like Lex on Smallville. Third, Michael is a middle aged man, and recording and broadcasting his midlife crisis is the most productive source of income he has. Oh, and if you think back to classic movies from the eighties, his best friend is a dog. He claims to be forced to watch the show, but he's only forced by his circumstances. Because if he didn't watch it, he'd have no income.

Michael..... you're probably joking but just in case: "Smallville" is a nickname Lois uses for Clark across different Superman media that basically means "bumpkin". Because he's this sweet, naive guy from the country and they usually meet in the bustling Metropolis, it's both a bit mocking but also a term of endearment for him. Throughout this show (and others) it quickly became her nickname for Clark. Also I love the shower scene! It's so hilarious. Tom is right, it really shows their banter and chemistry that they were so great at. Despite the criticisms for this episode, I LOVE the first four episodes of season 4. I always find them so fun on rewatches, particularly because of Lois and all her interactions with Clark. She was apparently only supposed to be in those 4 episodes and then reappear much later down the line but her character was so popular they brought her back just a few episodes later. So these 4 episodes really feel like a fantastic intro to Lois, since at the time this was all they thought we'd get. I'm so glad we got more though because Erica was so great and was my favourite part of the show. I love the next episode (especially that ending scene with the dunk tank - one of my favourite scenes of the show) so I'm tentatively bracing myself for Michael shitting on it lmao. 😂

And also, first used in the comic books by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale 1998 “Superman For All Seasons” series. Which is what James Gunn used as a reference for the “Superman Legacy” movie script. Erica’s Lois Lane is the first on screen character to say it. It is one of many nicknames she will give Clark throughout the series run and is a term of endearment for him (not a reference to Clark Jr.)! 😐. Pretty sure Jeph Loeb on the Smallville writing team is the one who added that in to the script.

Thank you! Michael’s warped thoughts on why Lois called Clark Smallville is disgusting.
@asyouwish363611 ай бұрын
@cherylebbs2079 Michael only likes to get invested in the eps that are Lex-heavy, so when it doesn't feature him that much (like this ep) he either doesn't pay much attention, or he behaves more juvenile than normal. or both sometimes smh lol. this is why he was trying to rewrite the reason for Lana's return (cuz he keeps missing relevant details). like, sure, the ancestor/possession/crystal storylines could have been executed better (considering how well Charmed and Buffy were telling their respective magical storylines). Michael didn't notice Lana is a passive character in this storyline and she gets sometimes reduced to a plot point (from a literary standpoint) cuz it didn't involve Lex either. at least not at this point in the season.
@cherylebbs207911 ай бұрын
@@asyouwish3636 He doesn’t seem to understand there are more characters on the show than him, especially ones that are liked immensely. So, when we have been waiting patiently for one of those characters(and the actress who portrayed her)debut it’s exciting. And he seems to **** on the show like he usually does(more often than not). I hate to think what it’s going to be like the last three seasons when Lex isn’t on at all.
@asyouwish363611 ай бұрын
@cherylebbs2079 well hopefully it won't be too bad. like, yeah the last 3 weren't cinematic. but they were fantastic! S7 almost killed me it was really bad (fast forwarded thru most of it on re-watch) but S8 was like a brand new show! it was invigorated. so who knows w Michael lol

Rosie must not know that Erica is the REAL LOIS LANE from the comics, the chick can fight. Lois is an honorary Amazon FFS. Most of the rest of the "depictions/tries" at Lois have been a failure. Kidder and Durance are top.

"Always Hold On To Your Smallville!" Thanks for yet another FUN Talk Ville, and fingers crossed for Erica to appear on the podcast soon as Tom mentioned! "Gone" feels like a little more than just One Rose, but I am excited for all the episodes of Season Four! Glad to hear Tom really enjoyed working with Michael Ironside! P.S. Special thanks to Michael for having Tom on as the guest for the landmark 300th Episode of Inside Of You With Michael Rosenbaum!

I love the way that Michael says everything that comes to his mind without thinking 😂, this makes his narration even more unique
@coreyvisser700411 ай бұрын
I think Lois called him Smallville because in her mind Clark was defined by the fact he was the typical small town farm boy. When she thought of Smallville she would also think of Clark and visa versa. To her Clark was like the mascot for Smallville and small towns in general. It was a playful jab aimed at Clark.

I really loved how the writers had Lana and Lois meet with afterwards Lana having the awkward talk with Clark (I thought Erica did a great job at joking around with Tom). I thought the shower scene between Clark and Lois was unnecessary but I thought it was pretty funny. Thanks again for another season ❤

Such a great follow this second episode was to the sason premiere. With a lot of great teamup pairings with Clark/Lois at the safehouse wreckage fending off the army special ops men, who are Lois' father General Lane's men. Was great that got to meet him in this episode as well. Michael Ironside played him rather well. Very commanding presence. The later meeting with Lana/Lois and subsequent fending off the bladed Krypto villian was great. As was the rescue of Chloe at the foundary, with Lois and Clark both holding their own. With his powers and her using the electronic rifle. I believe she got that from her father. Lois certainly showed her Army brat nackground in this one right from the get go. So many great action moments. TGIW.😀🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

This show became so much better when Lois arrived. The banter between her and Clak was so good and gave Tom a chance to be fun and light more than before. Everything is always so heavy in Clark's storylines that it was great to get to see that side of his character. If the show was missing anything in previous seasons, it was that!
@darwiniacroft11 ай бұрын
Regarding Lois’ nonchalant reaction to blowing up the metal guy, I think that speaks to her character and why she’s the perfect girl for Clark. Since she was raised by a general, the assumption is that she has seen a lot in her life already, so the craziness just doesn’t phase her. It’s a direct contrast to Lana, who tends to freak out when weird shit happens.
@Vixin2411 ай бұрын
Agreed!

Lana freaked perhaps at first, but after 5 seasons worth of weirdness, I think Lana began to mellow out a lot. And she did accept Clark’s secret in the 100th and even later on when she found out.

Even though there are plot points that make zero sense, Gone is my favorite episode of the season. (the funniest/laziest moment being the ADR explaining how Lois got to the bad guy's lair. - Clark asks her and she just asks him the same question and neither answer). BUT it has some of the most memorable scenes of the season, and great character stuff.

Okay I expected Bryce to have done some more homework atleast on this episode with the iconic character Lois's introductory episode....Smallville is a nickname Lois gave to Clark, and it is from the comics, because of Clark coming from a small town....not because of his wiener(which she jokingly called Clark Junior)...bruhh... Michael Ironside had played Darkseid in the animated movie....Also the picture of Lois's mother in this episode was NOT of Teri Hatcher, though Teri Hatcher later plays Lois's mom in Season10....Why Lois could fight a soldier, is because she was brought up by the General, at Army camps, among boys, and she proudly called herself an Army Brat(I truly disliked how Michael dismissed this as Cheesy) Michael made this episode hilarious, but some of the best parts of the episode got smoothed over....like Clark trusting Lois, so early in their relationship....the hilarious banter in the shower, where Clark makes a mention of being caught in bed with Alicia....the non verbals of the Kents....Sam Lane was a 3 star general and he was bound to have that rough n tough exterior but, the way he spoke to Lois got overlooked and in those small scenes, he showed how protective he was of Lois, a doting father....For me this is one of my fav episodes of Smallville.
@tinatinkvirkvelia131711 ай бұрын
Totally agree that some of the best parts of the episode were completely smoothed over or ignored in favor of making silly jokes or grumbling about plot holes, which yeah I get it, but there's also so much great character work in the episode that I was looking forward to being discussed.

it's funny how Michael always complains about the plots being wrapped on a single ep. Now that we have a plot that is gonna be solved through the season, he says that it doesn't make sense for the ep. That's the point! It's a mystery to be solved.

Never liked how Lana was written allways thinking everybody having secret's behind her back and generally suspicious of everyone would have love to see her being written more like Lois full of energy and straight forward.
@vbrandy708811 ай бұрын
There some things I didn't like about Lana's writing but not for the things you said cause she wasn't wrong Clark did have secrets behind her back. He was lying and gaslighting her a lot. And I think anyone would be suspicious of people if like her every other week someone tried to kill us. Also how many people that she thought she could trust ended up hurting her (physically and/or emotionally) or leaving her. I feel like if you don't put yourself in Lana's shoes or try to see things from her perspective and ignore all trauma she went throught you will not get her character.

@nickhydier120111 ай бұрын
There were some funny moments sprinkled in this one, such as the shower scene of Clark and Lois. The Clark tells his parents showers, we took separate shows was always humerous. Clark early had quite an awkwardness with Lois. Which sort of continued in the later seasons. Also found it interesting how Lex was behind Chloe's survival of the safehouse explosion. Orchestrating the rescue with General Lane and his men. Rushing Chloe and her father underground via tunnels built for the Underground railround. That just seemed to be conveniently under that house at that specific spot.

22:58 right, Lana was in the Caves before, in S02E11 34:25 actually in Superman 3, Lois called Clark also Smallville. it was also a thing in the comics
@TMSokoya11 ай бұрын
Teri Hatcher actually didn't appear in the family photo in Season 4, but she was cast in Season 10. I always believed that Lois calling Clark 'Smallville' was taken from Superman: The Animated Series (1996), but someone in the comments said that apparently Erica improvised that line, and it stuck 🤔. The plot thickens.
@kristenballinger50011 ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure the writers added that in the script since Jeph Loeb was part of the writing team. He had Lois call Clark "Smallville" in his comic book series "Superman for All Seasons".
