You can learn to play it - slowly! Technically, it's one of Tommy's easier pieces to play. But to play it fast like him - well, no way! Only Tommy can do that!
@steveb93256 жыл бұрын
David Turpin Sure you can. Just at a much slower tempo!
@fatkitty42074 жыл бұрын
well it is very fast. But if you start at a slower rate and work out the notes one by one and play it for a long time so it becomes muscle memory. Because if you try to learn it at a fast pace then you will make mistakes. And if you repeat them they will become muscle memory. And you will eventually end up always playing it with mistakes and never fixing them.

Tommy Emmanuel "live" at the Ryman - Tommy's "fiddle tune." I've seen him perform this twice here in Winnipeg. He must have made a mistake, then and now, but I can't spot it, can you? A finger-style giant, this is played with one of his flat picks. It's not just the speed, it's the shading; the dynamics of loud & soft that no guitarist has ever achieved before. As Sinatra said of Astaire, "You can wait around a hundred years, and you'll never see (hear) the likes of this again." Thanks Tommy Emmanuel for sharing this one! To be celebrated elsewhere [search] " Great Melody, Great Lyric, Great Rendition, Songwriting Workshop, Harmony Central p.49 "

It's amazing to see that even as he gets older, he gets more and more relaxed as he plays. Just shows that 10 hours a day of hard work pays off. God bless this man, he continues to inspire musicians like me to work all day everyday.

Which 10 hours. He😂says he doesn't practice
@dotanoob2k Жыл бұрын
@@mrplitsum Where have you heard that? Yes, he says that he oftentimes runs through songs, etc. to keep his chops up, but he very much clearly states again and again that it takes him a lot of work to maintain his physical skills on the instrument. He also says that he practices improvising often. He's been saying and showing these things in interviews and tv shows for decades by now. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to tell you off here, or anything, I'm just genuinely wondering where you heard him say that he doesn't practice.
@mrplitsum Жыл бұрын

@joelkeeley793 Жыл бұрын
@@mrplitsum He's probably addressing the need to be inspired to play at the rate he does. This is something I've heard him say in more interviews than I'll ever try to count. He can't just sit down and play out of a strict discipline like alot of classical and jazz players can. He draws on inspiration to play as much as possible. Hence why he talks about always putting on and playing to records (Chet's, Djangos, etc), or listening to ones to write new ideas for his own compositions. He's been a strong advocate on drawing on what is already existent and learning/studying from that, more so than just doing random technical exercises that contains hardly any artistic value (until put in context). But the fact stands that he'll spend heavy hours a day on all mentioned. I talked with Joe Robinson once about his personal experiences with Tommy on tour. Before and after shows, he'd have his guitar with him, always. He'd play a 2 hour set then go to his hotel room and Joe would wake up in the early hours of the morning and still hear him practicing in the next room. So, it's safe for me to conclude that he truly does average well above the norm of typical practice. I've met Tommy many times, and been to his camps, I've NEVER once had a conversation or ever seen him (besides when he's eating) without a guitar on his back or in his hands. That's how you know the man is glued to it, and always has been.

@b-sideplank6 жыл бұрын
"..no fingerpicker can touch him either" - You have a point, but it's not literally true. There are some people who have technical ability at this level. Martin Taylor for example, someone who plays/played with Tommy a lot. His technical abilities are nearly unmatched. And his musical achievements are greater - admittedly a loaded word - than Tommy.
