Mr Spicer, the way you elevated the hinges is exactly what I was looking for. And I like the bridge work you included with the lift.

Thanks for the video. I built a lift up gate similar to this on my HO layout. I found the center of the hinge pins must be as high or higher as the top of the rail.... no mater what scale.

Padro, Great Presentation on the lift out or lift up I should say. I did the same thing and raised the hinges just a bit but I used half inch for my HO but the idea works the same, With the hinge higher it it allows the track ends to raise and clear the fixed track and raise over the fixed ends and clears the fixed rails. As it is lowered it stays of the fixed track and lowers and snugs up to the fixed rails as it gets into place. Add a magnet to hold it down and you don't have to worry about it popping up by someone just bumping the gate. That helped with your guests coming through the gate and having a hard time getting a pin to line up to lock it in place. In my case I am running 3 tracks on the staging level and 3 on the main level, the lower staging level is a swing gate and because the rails have to clear the previous rail as it closes each rail is 1 inch shorter than the next. The good thing is that each rail cut is not even with the other rail so your wheels don't cross the cuts at the same time. So my swing gate works basically the same as Padro's but a swing open, with the upper main level raises up like Padro's. Although power cutoff micro switches are ready to go on both gates the track beyond the gate on each side is insulated from the rest of the layout a couple of feet beyond the gates so if the gate gets barely cracked open it will cut the power to the gate and its extensions before and after the gates too. I have also used these gates in front of my furnace so that I can get into the furnace to change filters or to get a furnace tech into the furnace, two modules will just swing the modules. You can see my swing gate which includes a counter weight to help swing the gae back on its own to land on a guide plate to hold the weight. Then you just slide it to it's stops and magnetic hold. It is on my page of "SHRINEHILLRAIL" and is called Counter weight for the swing gate. the video is about the the counter weight but shows the whole operation. Newman

Great explanation. We finally got to see how the jolly green giant gets into Hadway without having to duck under the track. You have done a great job on this layout Pedro and enjoy your updates. Thanks for sharing your layout.

That's a great idea, I wish I would have thought of that design. I actually used a piece of wood but I made it electric. I used a linear actuator to lower and raise the bridge. I'm relatively new to model railroading and youtube, here's a video of my bridge "Model RailRoad Bridge Episode 2"

fantastic job, i was thinking about a pivot point where i lift up the other end go's down like a lot of road bridges do, what you did works just as good.

I like the lift outside like this over a straight piece of wood. Looks awesome man!!! Yea the hinges on all lift up bridges need to be higher then the track so the can open properly. Great work man!!

Nice job on the tip up Pedro, I used my dremel to cut the track, but using the ballast spreader was genius
@HadwayLayout2 жыл бұрын
Jim. I have a Dremel tool also. The reason I use the saw. is because it a little easier to cut starlight lines. My Dremel cut is a bit of an angle.

THe key to the hinged lift out is the same in any scale. It's get the hinge higher than the track, that way the track doesn't bind when you lift it up.
@HadwayLayout2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I was not sure about that.
