I’ve spent most of my adult life at sea and I think that Tally Ho is one of the most meticulously built vessels I’ve ever seen. Part of me think it should be in a museum to show future generations how to build the perfect boat but In my heart I know she has to go to sea.

Dear @alanhenderson9092 👍👌👏 Almost exactly what I almost always think and also already commented. Tally Ho should be in a museum to show people how it can be done if excellent craftsmen do it. I'm shocked how much wear and damage for instance Arabella already took and I simply don't want it to happen to Tally Ho. On the other hand: Of course I want Leo to be happy. And without sailing Tally Ho, he will not be happy. At least I guess so. Best regards, luck and health in particular.

Here in Australia and New Zealand, it was customary to use Oregon Pine (Douglas Fir) beams around 15” by 5” as the mounting for sheep-shearing shed shaft-drives. Every old shearing shed in Australia and New Zealand has these beams in them - thousands of them. They would mostly be over 100 years old now. Beautifully seasoned and of the highest quality. Shaft-drive systems are no longer made for sheep-shearing, so the beams are becoming obsolete as the systems wear out. Hundreds of shearing sheds are abandoned now, complete with shaft-drives and beams.

Well Done Maties!!!!!! You can't beat Douglas Fir. Our house is 75 yrs old. All of the framing is Doug Fir. It was a "kit" house and assembled by an established contractor who built it for his own family. An interesting thing I've found is ever piece of wood I've had chance to look at is stamped with a "part no. and name". The most incredible fact: The ceiling joist (2x8's) are one piece. That makes them 28' long. Yep, 28' long. The house frame is 28 X 56.

If you're interested in some wood-related science, I recently was studying the subject. Ring size is a useful medium for historians, generally enlarging with temperature. Warmer years mean faster growth. The age of sail is entirely within a period called the "Little Ice Age." Temperatures were around 4℃ lower than today. If global temperatures to continue rising, and we continue current deforestation rates, we can expect such nice, tight-grained woods to become quite scarce and valued indeed.

A really suspenseful episode building up to appropriate comic relief! Thanks to everyone involved! I had to laugh out loud several times. And, of course, in the shaping, painting and mounting of the bowsprit we get to witness the admirable workmanship that regulars to this channel have come to expect.

👍👌👏 This sabs ( = salvation army bow sprit) 😁 ;-) is as beautiful as the rest of the extremely impressive woodwork on this sailing yacht. 💚 Best regards, luck and especially health to all involved people.
