Always loved seeing Talos IV get smaller and smaller as the Enterprise pulls away. Gives it that "we're never returning" feeling. Well, almost never.

True ofc according to TOS cannon. It was later determined that Starfleet would later impliment a spacific and iconic Geleral order rule that would prohibit any starfleet vessel and crew from ever returning to Talos4 this the Talos4 Nativs would become aware of and put an isolation field around their planet.

One of the best versions of this theme song…. It is curious why they used a different theme song on the second pilot. I do like that theme as well but not sure if it was ever used again….. perhaps in an episode as background music…

Why is the deflector dish so big?

The dish, bridge and nacelle tips all got redone on the Enterprise model after the cage pilot. If you go back and watch the cage and where no man has gone before, you'll still see the oversized deflector dish. Even on the remastered versions with the cgi effects they kept the larger dish for those two episodes.
