I just bought this snare I absolutely adore it I think it's the best SLP snare as in terms of the wood maybe except for the spotted gum or the walnut. For the money it's an incredible buy I was also thinking about buying either the spotted gum or the walnut I really enjoy the walnut but I'm wait until the price goes down. When this snare first came out it was about $430. Now you can get them in between $350 -$400 . I got mine for $379. But I really enjoy the spotted gum snare and as an absolutely beautiful sound I'm looking forward to buying that 1 and possibly the walnut From the SLP line.

I ended up purchasing the SLP dry aluminum snare it's like the SLP classic maple but on steroids. I just felt like I needed to buy a metal snare and the SLP aluminum dry really is like a high-end metal snare it's get the bead going around it which you usually only see on high-end metal snares as it is. I mean I've got a Gretsch Brooklyn standard snare which is a blend of Maple and Poplar and it blows away the sound of that classic Maple snare so why not just get a metal snare the aluminum dry is right up my alley

Glad to hear! The SLP classic dry aluminum is a steal of a snare drum. I just recently put the Tama brass sound arc hoops on it and it's amazing! instagram.com/p/CU8OCAaAIk2/?

How tightly tuned are these heads on high….? They seem tighter, than on other videos of this snare..

Hi Anton, I keep watching your video but cannot decided between Mr. Fat Spruce and Yamaha Aluminum. What's your opinion if need to pick one. (Or I should pick both? XD)
@antonjamesolsson
@antonjamesolsson 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry for the delayed response. Really depends on what you're going for. The Aluminum is a fantastic snare, so is the fat spruce. What it really comes down to is wood vs metal. If you can swing it get both haha! Aluminum might sound too clinical at times, but it will never fail to produce a great sound . The spruce have a greater warmth to my ears.

Aluminum is a better all rounder even though it sounds bland. It blends well with mixes. After a year or two, go out and splurge on something different like this spruce snare or something else unique

Is this a different batter head to the Evans G1 it comes with . It shows a Remo on here.. Also the bottom head and snare wires..

Hey Roy! Glad to see you enjoying the video. Yes it's a remofiberskyn. Basically an ambassador/G1 but with a different coating.Adds a little bit of warmth. Bottom head is stock and so is the wires. Cheers!

The playing is superb and tasty but as for the drum demo, yeah. Killer demo of your compressor and eq plug in’s though.

Clay Foster Hi Clay! First of all thank you for stopping by and for your kind words! This is interesting to me, the only reason why I’m making this kind of video is because I find the gear review/ demos on KZbin lacking. What’s interesting for me me as a consumer is how it behaves under mics, in a mix, through a PA. I try to walk the line in my videos between the very stale micing/ mixing like maybe the Memphis drum shop videos, and a full on mega mixed, gated , limited wall of sound, kill all of the natural sound......... like I find for instance some of the larger retailers footage to lean against. My compressors are set to about 60% mix and the EQ’s are bumping and cutting 3-5dbs here and there to bring out what I hear is the sound of this drum when I play it. Just mono overheads and a kick mic. What do look for when you click on a video like this? For me I find it more interesting and revealing when I get to see what can be done with the gear in a musical setting. Once again thank you for your comment, interested in how you see things. Cheers!

Personally I think sounds like a drum does it best and gives the truest most accurate representation of what a drum actually sounds like. I’m not really interested in what a studio can do to modify the sound of a drum because it’s pretty common knowledge that with enough compression and eq it’s possibe to make an export sound out of this world. And regardless, while many of us are playing gigs and venues big enough to require micing there’s plenty of us playing the corner bar without them and are dependent on heads, tuning, and a drum that just sounds good without any help. So hats off to your playing which admittedly is far tastier than mine and your mixing skills which are top notch as well, but as for a drum demo you basically demoed what that drum can be made to sound like, though not what it actually sounds like.

@@clayfoster8234 Nice. I agree with you in some respects. I really like sounds like a drum too. Very informative, raw audio without post processing etc. But I think the difference lies within the style of videos we're aiming for. I've found many of their videos interesting and informative and full of tips and trix I can try once I get to my set. But I've never been so excited that I just wanted to run to my drums. That feeling of inspiration and excitement about drums sounding reaaaaally good ( Insert videos of Benny Greb and Carter McLean here) is more what I'm aiming for. This channel is more about entertainment than it is about objective reviews at this point in time. I want to play drums and music and be inspired by the sound I can get out of the drums in front of me. And I'll be the first one to admit to how I've treated the audio to get the sounds. Hope that sheds some light about the thought process behind this and other videos I've made. // Side note, the snare sounds great without mics as well, I normally never tune it as low as in the video without putting a BFSD or old head on it though. Cheers!

Knowing that’s the angle you’re coming from I can definitely appreciate it. And I’d like to apologize for coming off waaaay more dickish than I intended in my original comment and to again compliment you on your outstanding groove. :)
