Thank you for using the term “narcissist family,” because I had a very difficult time with socializing growing up, being the youngest in a very large family, and it’s only recently that I have been able to come to terms with the fact that my ENTIRE FAMILY is narcissistic. It’s so hard to explain that to people who grew up in actual supportive and loving families, that, yes, an entire family can all be extremely toxic, and how that can cause someone (especially a child who was influenced by 7 people older than her that she looked up to,) to have extreme CPTSD that the gaslighting didn’t allow me to even come to terms with until WELL into adulthood. I mean like I literally feel sick to my stomach every time I hit send on a text, because I just assume that whatever totally innocent or even nice thing I’ve written WILL be taken wrong, and then I’ll be punished. Every single time.

They must be jealous of you or wish they were you. Did you excel past some of your siblings? This happened to me, in fact I surpassed all of them. Even your parents can be jealous of you. Watch for this. Walk away.

Adding: as long as I’m happy, doing well in my career, earning dough in amounts they only dream about, or mostly when I am myself, speak my opinion, or provide a different point of view based on truth and evidence, they will hate me. They just want to stay blind, abused, and they cannot stand the presence of healthy people or healthy behaviour.

My mother uses religion to control and guilt me to get her way. It took a toll on me and I ended up leaving the religion due to depression. Now my mother is losing it because she has no more manipulative tactics. I'm sure she will move to not leaving me anything unless i return but I don't even care!

I'm sorry. This is not okay. This is not healthy and not how religion is to be used. Sadly, a lot of people use it for purposes of guilt-tripping or controlling. I always feel -- speak the truth, but never use this as a weapon against someone else for the wrong purposes.

This is a great question because so many people, with narcissistic parents, feel they do not have the right -- often because of social and cultural norms -- to love the narcissistic parent and waver between love and hate. The reality is that this is often the real picture of a relationship with a narcissistic parent. The narcissism isn't always easy to see and therefore causes adult children to waver.
