this song is and always will be perfect, lyrically and sonically. kevin paints a vivid picture of someone trying to escape their past by trying to run away from their problems, whatever they may be, hoping going somewhere new will fix everything. it might, it might not, but at least they can enjoy the few moments of peace as they ascend into the sky and cruise above the clouds.

one of the most underrated songs. this is art. a philosophical masterpiece in all its metaphysical mysteries. I always imagine some sort of apocalyptic scene where [he] sees others ascending and [he] is left behind… it is true, some things have to change. I think the song also can speak to the inner battle (the innerspeaker one can say) that a heavily emotionally intelligent and morally driven person goes through when (maybe) they feel stuck between decisions and ideologies that they felt loyal to and maybe feel they must change (don’t remind me of home, there’s everywhere I’d rather go) this battle within the soul. you can feel this supersonic rush as if coming from the heavens above as the song begins and it’s his time to make a choice… he wants to make the choice now before the time comes that he may be speaking to prophetically to himself (but I’m the one who’s left behind). In a way this song almost masterfully romanticizes the essence of meaning and purpose and the ever going battle within the soul. It is so fitting that this song is second last in the album followed by “I Don’t Really Mind”, which almost provides the listener a sense of catharsis or at least comfort after asking some very deep questions on the previous track. Art is subjective, and one thing that makes Tame Impala so special is you get the sense that so many people around the world relate to their sound and words on deep parts that touch the heart, body, mind and soul. I once heard a great quote from a professor that music has a way of speaking to the soul and identifying things in the human heart that cannot be articulated. Yet, you can hear a song as such and it will move you to tears of truth. Powerful. This is what Tame Impala has meant to me! And whatever way they meant to you must be great too!! Many thanks to this legendary artist.

@biglezmate38304 жыл бұрын
@vicefulder you say that, but realistically who could have predicted songs like let it happen or nangs would get big?
@lostecho43944 жыл бұрын
@vicefulder if you watch Kevin talking about pop music around the time of Lonerism and Currents he is clearly very passionate about it and how psychedelic it can be. He had wanted to do more pop and RnB and things of that sort for a while. He did it because he genuinely wanted to, and that is pretty clear to see if you actually listen to what he says in interviews and how he says it. You can't fake that kind of passion that he shows for the direction he went in. And yes the music industry sucks in a lot of ways, but an artist like tame impala still has a lot of creative freedom. Only pop artists who don't write their stuff are controlled that much. Someone like kevin who got big and got critical acclaim for doing music that isn't what is normally popular and is quite psychedelic have pretty much full creative control. With the way that kevin creates, he wouldn't have signed the record deal without full creative control.

From the start, he says "But don't remind me of home, there's everywhere I'd rather go" that means he is on his way home in an aeroplane. Also at one point, he says "And gazing out the window as I ascend into the sky" like he is traveling in an aeroplane and he is looking out of the window as he ascends into the sky. Correct me if I'm wrong..
