The transition between them eating from his hand and getting out of the cage happened so fast. I also have two budgies that I've been trying to tame for months now and they don't have a problem with eating from my hand or standing on my finger but that's all. They fly away when I try to get them out of the cage, they don't allow me to touch them and they only jump on finger when there is food involved...

A couple of months ago I bought a very young bird from the pet store. I figured out she was probably 3 months old when I got her. She's the shy personality and bringing her home, and her new cage, she was extremely traumatized and sat like a statue for 2 days. Not eating or drinking water, and could not entice her even by moving food and water near the corner where she was sitting. The 2nd night, I put a small pyramid under her cage, and the next morning she did start drinking and eating. Only small amounts at first, but she was moving around her cage. It took a couple of weeks before she stopped panicking when I reached into the cage to wipe off her perches or change her food. I love her and she's so cute. I've had her two months now, and am just in the last few days gotten her to eat from a spring of Millett held in my hand, and last night for the first time she jumped on my arm a few times. I have even gotten her to sit on my finger....but not for long. But I do attribute the vibrations from the small pyramid as being a big help in easing her trauma.

I love that you gave them a chance to be loved just like anyone deserve❤️ But im a bit concerned about their droppings, since the urates look kinda greenish/yellow and. Bright green or yellow feces can signify that the bird is not eating (anorexia, or stress since they got to a new home), liver disease, or chlamydia (a kind of bacteria) infection. The urates are normally white, cream colored or slightly yellow. I would keep an eye on that since i lost 2 of my rescueds for the same reason..(they had problems with their liver) I also recommend giving them milk thistle and milk thistle seed since it can do miracles for your bird❤️

I tamed my two budgies in the same way you did in this video, They are comfortable sitting on my finger and eating millet/lettuce, but when I try to take them out they either jump off my finger when approaching the exit, or they just jump back on the cage and go back in. Clearly, they don't want to be out the cage. I have been doing this daily, so with time it may work, but could you make a video outlining tips and ways to make it easier? Thanks!

You are amazing with your birds. I’ve recently got some parakeets and I’m loving it. I had one as a child and had it for years and when it died, I just never got another one due to heart break. I’ve been trying to give them different fruits and spinach but unsuccessful with them eating it. Any suggestions on how to feed it to them would be greatly appreciated.
@Ray-Of-Sunshine2 жыл бұрын
I would suggest taking away their seed dish so they are forced to try other foods. Just between say breakfast and dinner. By using that method, my bird became interested in nearly everything I would eat. It had to try some--even meat!
@notjbfold2 жыл бұрын
You could grab the food you want the bird to eat and stand next to the cage then take a bite of it and act like its really yummy. Do NOT give the bird the food you bit, instead a new one, human saliva is toxic for birds. Also when you give them fruit DONT give them any fruit with the seed still there as it contains cyanide which is safe for humans in a very small amount but for birds its not. To what i know the only safe fruit seed is strawberry.

Wow, so awesome! You’re so caring and patient. Very happy flock you have! I actually learned a lot from this video. I think I’m not being slow and patient enough with my bird. We rescued a young-ish male cockatiel from a household that had dogs, kids and probably meth use. We’ve had him for over a year, and he’s come to love us (we think), but he absolutely hates our hands. He hardly ever comes out of his cage even though it’s always open (except for when we secure him at night). He just sits on a rope attached to the cage door all day. He hates when we leave and freaks out with excitement when we return, it just sucks he won’t really interact with us.

I have an injured parrot,when I first(my dad owns a pet shop so he bought birds from a bird breeder and got these birds) saw him I thought he was an aggressive bird by the way he looks,so I dint care about him much,then when I went to put some tomato/banana and other fruits inside the cage the bird will start opening its mouth and when I hand feed he takes a bite and goes away,that made my heart wanting to tame him and make my friend,I asked my dad so many times but the answer I got was no,then after a few days I asked again and he said ok,I was so EXITED,then I noticed that his wings are a little broken and his leg has an injury,but now after like a month of taming he now is my friend,his leg is ok he can kinda fly and now he eats from my hand,likes to sit in my shoulder and walk with him outside with him just sitting in his shoulder,his name is Nutter and he is my best friend now

Either way I've had him for 3 years and he's still relatively skittish. Sure sometimes he wants nothing more than to be around me, other times he doesn't. Hey if you eat avocados it’s really easy to grow plants from the pits if you just throw them in some soil (literally just throw them in and wait and a good portion will grow! It really is easy and cheap and unless you want them to bear fruit maybe they’re quite easy to maintain... oh also they tend to like more shade so when we put them outside for the summer just be careful they don’t get too much sun and dry out... though they’re still quite hardy and can spring back after being damaged like that... you can also have a bunch of plants) and my budgies lovedddd the leaves!

Take it slow, birds get startled easily even by small things. My best advice would be too show the bird you aren't a threat, by trying to play with it or give it treats. Its also important to make sure the bird is comfortable with a big enough cage and multiple toys. If the bird bites you when you put your fingers in the cage it's probably overwhelmed/stressed.

Yes however it can take time. I recently bought and am working with a wild 1 year old female fancy parakeet "aka budgie" and just like with all starting relationships...it takes time. Let your budgie be the first to initiate any interaction as you never want to force any interaction for that's the best way to quickly destroy any chances of a strong and loving bond between you and your budgie.

I have a question if anyone can help, I have untamed budgies that freak out when I clean the cage, I’m not just talking about replacing the paper but actually getting sponge and rinse bottom and stuff. is there a way to clean the cage without scaring them? I can’t really move them out of the cage because they are not ready but the cage needs to be clean.

My best advice is to get a separate small cage to put them in while you clean their regular cage, they are probably overwhelmed by the noise so its best to be very careful since birds are sensitive. Its very important to show the birds your someone you can trust!! :) hope this helps
