As for paint i have used testors since the sixtys and in late 90s 2000s i started useing the model master line nice to get away from the oils. But i still do use some of the model master oils all part of the afrika corp colors. It has everything i need pluss it always works the way i except it to. safe to say i know how to use it by now. I have never seen another paint with the exception of tamiya sometimes in the mid 70s and you had to be in a model store to buy it. The problem with spraying was that i didn't fiddle with it because my testors where no brainers by then to me. So i didn't invest the time with tamiya paints. I have orderd some MIG some AK and some vallejo. I've brushed some vallejo it's nice. What i like with MIG & AK is the late war panzer colors. And probably some Russian aircraft paint model master doesn't carry. I keep hearing testors & model master are closeing shop. I have stocked several bottles of each color especially the ww2 RLM luft colors. Pluss there colors for American and English armor. If they shut down I can keep useing my favorite paint for years to come. After watching your videos im getting ready to dirty up a panzer. I kepp mine more or less clean scratches chips and dust and stains are pushing it for me. I really enjoy learning from your teaching.❤😊

Thanks Jerry, I was always a Humbrol user as a kid, then found Tamiya paints and thought they were tremendous, but now I am a devout acrylic man, with Vallejo definitely being my favourite. Glad you are getting something out of watching mate 👍

Non-Prolific 1/35th Scale Model Builder Thanks Jens, I haven't given up on the home printed decals just yet, I need to do more research and experimentation with other brands perhaps, this stuff was a bit too thick for my liking. I ended up writing the name on by hand with a fine point "white paint pen" which came out pretty good and took 15 seconds to do 😄

What thinners do you use for the final weathering and do I have to use a certain brand of pigments for that. Right now I have tamiya pigments
@HalidonDioramas4 жыл бұрын
For this one i used oil paint to make the wash with White Spirit, but sometimes i use Mineral Turpenting, which is a little harsher. I typically use acrylic paint with a couple of clear coats before i get to the washes so the White Spirits dont tend to do much damage, if your Tamiya paints are enamel you ight just need to take a bit more care. I use whatever i think will work best for the scene as far as pigments go, i dont think their is a right or wrong way to go really.
@taco66584 жыл бұрын
Are we talking about the same thing because I’m talking about how you made the dusty streaks with the European earth pigment and the thinner, thanks for getting back to me so fast.

With that Decal you made that failed that is called silvering. I was told to help prevent that always apply decals on a gloss surface. then when you are done spray a dull coat to seal them in.

Very nice build. But I must comment! That seam line between upper & lower turret halves just screams out, "FIX ME!".... And, maybe some black pin washes, some chipping effects, etc.... But very nice build. I especially liked the paint work on the tools....
@HalidonDioramas5 жыл бұрын
silentum excubitor Thankyou, yes I recon I thought to myself a dozen times during that build that I needed to fix that seam, but old age obviously took over and I managed to forget all the way through 😂😂😂
@silentumexcubitor67475 жыл бұрын
Thank-you for taking my comment so well! I've been building for over 50 years, and I STILL don't own an airbrush! I'm VERY creative on what I can do with spray cans, and most of my "model paint" comes from WalMart or Home Depot!.... But I am a "master" at my building and glueing skills, IMHO. But your Sherman looks real good. In re-watching the video, I also see you didn't "preshade". I've even used a thick black wash in engine grills, etc., before a thin-ish color coat.Thanks for your reply, KEEP UP the GOOD WORK! This is what I like best about "youtube".... And the non-masked bogie attachment points could be scraped gently to break up the paint, or most of the paint worn off with paint thinner or mineral spirits. As long as you can get SOME direct plastic-to-plastic contact, thin glues like Tamiya extra-thin will work fine. A little paint in glue surfaces is not a big problem with the stronger solvent glues. Finally, here's an old sign painter's tip: When doing fine detail work that needs precision & a steady hand, think about your PINKY! Find *ANY* solid place to plant your pinky as a stable base/reference for your paintbrush hand. It helps us old guys shaky hands!

Neil Mackay lol, I deliberately went without the usual stowage we see on Shermans, they were in semi permanent camp and I assumed they would have taken stowage off, plus initially they were carrying a fair number of infantry on the tanks so all that combined with my laziness sort of worked for me 😄😄😄
