I've never met a Tamiya kit I didn't like. Everything fits like a glove. Always a friend to the modeler. The 14 looks good {for a jet} the magnets make the missiles & tanks fit snug. Good job

I have tried the magnet method and it was awesome. It tried regular super glue and it set too fast, so the slower curing you pointed out will probably be better

Was in VF-213 during the filming Top gun (long time ago). Did the cooling for the Phoenix missile (nasty fluid),that being said, if you build a F-14 for yourself 143 is a *WAY*cooler squadron, even the name "Puking Dogs" Tom was just a young man then,but,what a tool🤣

Great idea, i'm ordering some magnets for my build now and will use it along with glue to keep thinks attached. Those are Phoenix not Maverick missiles though ;)

I get my neodymium magnets from eBay mostly. If you prefer Amazon, they have them as well. I’d recommend getting a variety of sizes ranging from 2mm to 4mm in diameter

Do you know if applying filler over the magnets will make them lose their magnativity? I'd like to use the magnets, but don't want them to be visible if or when I pull the parts off. Thanks!

I’d think that’d work if you use strong enough magnets. On a couple of builds, I placed them inside of the wings before I closed them up and that worked too.

Hey great video! I am working on this build and I wonder if you have any tips on how to close up the gear bay doors. I'm having a hell of a time getting it to look decent.

That’s one of my only issues with this kit...for the front gear bays (which are the worst), I cement a strip of styrene along the back of them making them one piece. After they set up, I cement round pieces of styrene along the edges inside the gear bay which give you something to glue them to. I’ve found I’d still have to fill in with some putty along the edges. For the rear gear bays, it’s just a matter of trimming the lip on the edges of the bays so that the doors fit in. I also don’t install any of the main gear bay walls. It’s best to install the outer most doors before gluing the fuselage halves together. Then once the engine nacelles are on, you can fit the rest of them. Just a matter of trimming and test fitting

Kinda silly that Tamiya spent all this time engineering a great kit but dont allow you to be able to close up the wheel bay. I’ve tried it on one kit and the front wheel bay doors are an absolute nightmare to close up

@@seanerk5kt9 You had very good advice about using a hair dryer to make those decals conform. I've been working on a resin figure of a girl in a bikini and the bikini pattern decals did not conform well over her boobs. I've already used the Mark Fit Strong a few times. I'll try that hair dryer trick next.
