The 'Shuichi masking sol technique, is a really difficult one to get spot on, his paint mix is like, 20%paint 80% thinner, at about 7psi. I love the paint job you've done, looks like one of my collection,,,a couple of spots of blue oil paint on the horizontal stabilizers and one or two on the fuselage, well filtered in with some enamel thinner, for that extra realism. I'm starting to miss jets...
@seanerk5kt94 жыл бұрын
Shuichi spends a lot of time getting the tiniest details just right..it’s what sets his work apart. I’m gonna have to take a look at your Tomcat again and try to steal some of your ideas ;)

@jasonrucker93044 жыл бұрын
Hey Sean, I think you can add life to that masking solution. I saw this somewhere..."“MASKING SOL”, which can be applied, cut and peeled off. This product has the same characteristics as M131, which is no longer manufactured. This is a water-soluble product, so when it thickens during usage, you can thin it out with tap water for extended use."

Hi Primemodelworks, firstly amazing work on your F14, it looks unreal, you’re very talented! I have a quick question about the light ghost grey you used. You said its Tamiya, but I would just like to ask if you had to decant Tamiya AS Light Ghost Grey into your pot and then thin it? I can’t seem to find light ghost grey in the normal XF (paint pot) range, only the spray. Sorry for the stupid question but I am new to all this and trying to do something similar to your F14 but on EPO foam! Thanks so much and look forward to hearing your answer.

That’s awesome, thank you Sir! One more question as a new modeller - I fully appreciate you will use many paints and techniques, but as a newbie, would you say Tamiya are better paints the Vallejo or the other way around? Many thanks!
@seanerk5kt93 жыл бұрын
That’s a tough one...I wouldn’t say one is better than the other as it all just depends on what you get used to. I prefer Tamiya as I find vallejo clogs up my airbrush and I can get a smoother finish with Tamiya.
@Adam-hq8di3 жыл бұрын
@@seanerk5kt9 So I’ve just watched the video for the primer layer - and it’s thrown up some more questions for me. Do you have to use Mr Color Levelling thinner or can I use Tamiya thinner (I’ve seen that there is a lacquer thinner which has confused me even more... sorry this is all new to me!) Finally, do you use levelling thinner for all your airbrushing or do you use Tamiya thinner also? That’s it on the questions I promise!
@seanerk5kt93 жыл бұрын
@@Adam-hq8di you can use any lacquer thinner with mr Surfacer but I’d highly recommend mr leveling thinner for the smoothest finish. I wouldn’t use x-20a to thin it, I’m not even sure if it’d work as I’ve never tried it. I use mr color leveling thinner to thin all of my Tamiya paints.

I finished s 1/48th scale SuperHornet about 5 months ago. It was my first model in decades. It turned out pretty good. I thought I was good before(back in the 1990s). We are clearing out our barn to get ready to sell our home. My old models were in there and I tossed all of them in the garbage; about 7 of them in 1/48th, Vietnam aircraft. They were not that good after all. So, I have a Trumpeter 1/32 too. I just have a couple cockpit pieces painted and I am going to wait until we relocate to our new home when we move(God willing). My son flys F/A-18 SuperHornets and came home at Christmas and told me some interesting fact about the SuperHornet. One thing he said, the hardpoints under the wing are offset a few degrees as they were designed that way for a certain type of ordnance to clear the aircraft on release. Well, guess what, they never ended up using that specific ordnance. As a result, they are suffering a drag penalty due to the offset angle of the hardpoint/bombracks and they can not change it either. And that black or dark gray square/box on the top of the fuselage, just after of the cannon ports, in front of the canopy, well that square raised area is the IFF antenna. Also, those little dark circles in an array underneath the fuselage, near the inboard landing gear doors, well those little dark circles in those square arrays are in fact the chaff and flare ports. He also says they almost always fly with that big centerline fuel tank. He flew into a base near our home and took us out to the flight line. In fact they had about 12 SuperHornets there for some squadron ordnance delivery training. The bottom of those birds have quite a bit of hydraulic and J P. stains on the bottom of the aircraft, especially the big centerline tank. I am building the 1/32 Trumpeter F/A-18 E as a surprise for him. It will truly be a labor of love and must be perfect. I learned a bunch from KZbin building that 1/48th SuperHornet. I recovered from a few mistakes and it was a great warm-up to build the 1/32. Good luck on you SuperHornet.
