One way to avoid cracking where the body has slots is to avoid sharp corners. Use a drill and run it in reverse to friction drill holes in the corners instead of cutting. It will melt holes that end up much stronger than cut corners.

hello there :) back in the days i had a grasshopper, a sonic fighter and a terra scorcher, which were expensive enough, especially the last one mentioned! but the avante and the egress always were unaffordable!! so i fully understand your decission to buy one of those when u became financially liquid enough and did have enough time to devote it to this hobby(again gg). i was born in `76, may i ask how old are you(or young haha);) greetings from austria. and don´t put too much weight on the cardboard packaging!

Probably PS-63 bright gun metal. PS-23 gun metal is darker.

Although... It looks a lot like the egress box art, so maybe it was PS-41 bright silver?
