Oh yes this is all very grown up and not for kids. I think they'd doze off listening to me waffling on! Yes the brushless set certainly gives this a much needed boost. Many thanks for watching and commenting 😀

Hello Pete! A superb review matey - I must say you sounded very relaxed and chatty - I must drink a few strong pints before doing my next talkie video, although I'd probably miss most of the main points I was supposed to make! The only downside is that all the kids watching this are now seeing if they can order a few barrels of strong IPA online with dad's PayPal account :P I totally agree with all the issues you raised about the Konghead, great info for someone thinking about one of these, and they should, it's one of my favourites too. Definitely in the top 3. As for two more, now that's a very tricky one for me. I love my buggies and rally cars equally, but for different reasons. The rally cars are nice to drive and give a fantastic scale look, especially on camera. Like you, the crawling side of the hobby is OK but comes second to the ones I can have a blast with. So it would have to be one buggy and one rally car - today I will choose the Lancia Delta XV-01 and the Racing Fighter. If you ask me tomorrow I will probably change my mind though! Your Konghead looks and runs great, the extra 10mph changes the thing completely, much more fun! Anyway, hope you have a great Sunday, I bet it will end with another few pints of IPA! Enjoy! :)

Hello matey. I'm feeling a little ropey today as I slightly overdid it last night at the ravey do. Was great though :-) Anyway I think I covered most of the things I wanted to say about the Konghead despite the beer. Hopefully I've inspired some 10 year olds to start drinking alcohol! Nice choices with the top 3. It is difficult like you say and it depends on the location but the Konghead is defo good to run anywhere. I'd also like the Yeti in there but which one would get bumped down to 4th? Lunchbox and Firestorm are a must so maybe the Kong? Oh I can't decide and luckily I don't have to :-) Anyway like you say the brushless upgrade does make a huge difference to the Konghead. I can't remember what motor your one ended up with. Is it the same as Rob has in the speed test vid? Anyway I need another bit of a lie down! Thanks for your comments. Can you do me a favour and tell me if you can see a comment by Shamie Fleming under this video. I can see it when I press the bell button but when I look under the video it's not here so I can't reply. Really odd. I had a similar thing with a comment from Derek one time. Cheers matey :-)

@@PeteWylieRCGlad to hear the thick head was worth it! My Konghead ended up with a Turnigy Trackstar sensored 13.5 - not as fast as yours but OK at 18mph! No mate, can't see that comment either - YT is a mess at the minute - my browser keeps locking up and failing to refresh, plus it keeps saying a script has stopped working and I can't see the notifications some of the time. Oh well, maybe time to look at a new platform, I'm waiting to see what happens. Hope you feel better after the lie down : )

Hi Pete, found it😁 nice video. Bearings is a must on all kits definitely. The oil shocks again, a must. I like the speed you’re getting from the 4000kv motor, makes this go great. The body I can see would have taken ages! Hmmm, maybe me thinks I’m going to put one of these on my wish list. 6WD and 4WS, like the sound of that. Great hints and tips as usual. Keep well, take care 😉👌

That is basically the recipe for how I want to build my upcoming winter, all-weather, basher! I watched this video already a couple times before but it looks like I haven't commented yet, maybe I watched it on the TV when not logged in... It's so cool, I want one, I already have it open on the web store, almost ready to pull the trigger, but still undecided on the shocks, they seem really pricey... Let's see... Great review, both of the RC and the beer, it's still morning here, so I think I'll wait a few hours to crack open a nice cloudy IPA.

Hi there. Yeah this would be a great project to do. You can use plastic Tamiya mini shocks to save a bit of money. You could just see how you get on with the kit springs and decide if you need to upgrade. The other essential is the lunchbox bumper mod. Many thanks for your great feedback. Good luck with the project if you do decide to go for it 😁

Hi there. Yes this is a great truck and drives differently to the others I have. A good project too so I'd say go for it. Ah yes us Brits enjoy the odd beer too. I went to Australia many years ago and was impressed with the drive through off licenses! My local micro brewery operated a drive through during the winter lockdown which was cool. Many thanks for watching the vid. Much appreciated 😁

@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I never really got into tuned brushed motors so I don't know what you would need. I know that this is quite slow with the standard motor so it needs a big power boost to get it moving. I find the brushless sets to be very good and reliable. Good luck 😁

Wow that is a stunner fair play and have to say it looked alot faster than 21mph on camera. Really awesome vid. Would you recommend a tamiya lunchbox for a first kit build as I've always wanted to build a kit and really like the lunchbox especially your black one. Keep the great vids up.
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Yeah it does look quicker than that but it is plenty quick enough I'd say. I do really like the lunchbox and would recommend it so long as you don't mind doing a few mods. My build and mods videos of the lunchbox go over what I've done to mine. The GF-01 Dump Truck isn't really any more complicated if you wanted 4wd. The very easiest kits are the DT-03 buggies like the racing fighter. Good value as they usually come with oil shocks. Depends on where you are planning to run it really. In general though the Tamiya kits are very rewarding to build. Let me know what you decide. Thanks for watching the vid 😁

Excellent review Pete. Thanks for all the relevant information about the mighty Konghead before I start my build. Top 3? That's a hard one to answer as I only have a top 2 so it would be Lunchbox Van, Mental Maad Bull and Magnificent Neo Scorcher. Or I might change my mind and have the Lunchbox, the Dump Truck and the mighty Kong... It's a difficult decision to make young man. Cheers for the info. 👍👍😎

Hello mate. Many thanks, hopefully some of it is useful. Also thanks for that motor set that you got me. Seems to speed this one up nicely. I did take the Dual Ridge out on the same day that I was testing the Konghead. Before I even started videoing I slid off the road and into an enormous puddle. With the non waterproof electrics it was dead for that day but ok now. Hopefully get to test that soon but everywhere is so wet. Anyway yes it's difficult to chose a top 3 really as they all have different qualities. If it was a top 5 I'd add the Yeti and Dual Ridge. Anyway I've started building the new Lunchbox kit although I've spent most of my time building some new shelves in my hobby room as I was starting to run out of spaces for RC's. Really looking forward to the Brat build. Will do an unboxing vid of that. Hope you are having a good weekend mate. Not too long till the next forest meet up 😁

@@PeteWylieRC You're not having much luck with the speed test trials with the Dual Ridge are you? The slippery greasy road doesn't help much either. You might have better luck if you just use it on the road outside your house unless you live on a main road of course. Just doing all the painting bits on various RC's today ready for the next meet up. And also still trying to configure the "Bull-Box" build and trying to get everything to fit inside the chassis. The clue is in the name......... Looking forward to the next meet with you and Ric. I'm bringing my Hot Pink, Orange and Red Maad Bulls out to play. You might need sunglasses for the pink one, I kid you not...

Oh yes what we are doing is very grown up so the FTC can sod right off! Yeah I had missed having this truck as it's a great quirky go anywhere sort of RC. I'm pleased with how it turned out. I don't think you have one of these do you? If not then I defo recommend it as explained in the video. As you know you can never have too many RC's! Many thanks for watching 😀
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 5 жыл бұрын
Oh and on the subject of the Firestorm I guess it's down to the tyres and the conditions. I'm generally running on short grass and the Ground Assault tyres are brilliant and have enough grip but you can still slide the back out. I guess that if the grass is long or its really muddy then you'd need 4wd but for the vast majority of what I'm doing the Firestorm is epic. I think that you may need new tyres and also to mow the grass 😁

Hi pete, nice review and got my konghead on the way. Just a question, did you do anything with the diffs? I heard a lot of people talking about locking all 3 diffs for grip while crawling and in the mud? Regards ilja
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I left the diffs open with just the standard grease because I wanted the maneuverability on hard surfaces. I can't really advise on how it will handle with them locked as I haven't experienced it. I guess that with all the wheels permanently turning it will not get stuck too often. A great halfway house is to use Tamiya AW grease in the diffs which gives them sort of limited slip as it's so sticky. Don't know if this helps. Thanks for watching 😀
