PLEASE READ ME!!!!! -- So I did goof up and the ball suds on the steering arms are on the wrong side!! I need to flip them over to the bottom and that should clear up the wonky bump steer issue. I swear I double checked and it showed them on top but I saw it wrong more than once evidently!!! LOL!! My brain needs an oil change or something! Big thanks to those that pointed it out to me, I will get it fixed!!! I t just goes to show you can build a hundred kits and still goof up stuff!!

Good stuff, Addam. The Hotshot is a true classic and will look awesome running around your track! Those steering ball connectors should be on the bottom of the steering uprights, that will sort out your wonky bump steer. Can't wait to see it out on the track! 👍

I think it's the first time I actually watched a build video with this buggy, mostly just seen run videos. I think it is definitely a strange chassis. Your video got me thinking, the "perfect" 4wd chassis is probably near to a Tamiya TT-02 or Kyosho Fazer, but it took them so many years to reach this, so of course they had to go through all these weird designs to get there. It's really an interesting piece of engineering history, you got there! For me, personally, I am totally crazy about the tyres! I still haven't been able to buy me a set, but I want those tyres, ha ha, no idea what to put them on... Anyway, have a great weekend there, my friend!
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, there was a lot of trial and error back in these days. They were trying to find new and better ways of doing things and some worked and others not so much! Even the TT02 has its own issues as the ground clearance on it is really only suited for the track and not not as much for a fun runner in the grass and stuff. I think we can find flaws in almost every kit but that is great as it means there will be more and more kits made trying new things and working to get it perfect! BTW the front steering is wrong and I need to flip the ball studs to get rid of the bump steer! I will get it fixed, brain took a break on that part I think!

Can you imagine if they did that in todays time? 3 or 4 kits all very close but different all back to back like that. Yep ball studs supposed to be on the bottom, it still does it though just not as bad. Couldn't you have flipped that gearbox hex pipe upside down so the threads are at the bottom so you could then use the correct screw? the chassis is not bad I beat on mine pretty good it don't break only the front A arm did ware the shock connects on the section broke off and after that I reinforced mine and it never did it again... It is in the tight now so I'll leave it for now. If I have to tear it down later I'll flip it over then.

They are a very unique design for sure! I was kind of of shocked (LoL) of how thick of an oil went in them but it make sense being a single shock for both sides but it is way thicker than the Fox or the Fighting Buggy mono shocks were. In comparing the build the others have a better leverage point system on them and these are much more direct connection so the is why they are so stiff.

Thanks for the video! I’ve never heard of the oddball front suspension behavior on a Hotshot. Do the Boomerang and Thunder Shot behave the same way? Thank you!

I goofed up and put the ball stud on the steering knuckles on the wrong side! I put out a quick response video afterwards explaining. They do all have a bit of bump steer but nothing like it is in here!! This was really bad! I had looked back at the instructions a couple times too, just did not catch they were on the wrong side!! Some days the duhhh is hard to escape, I was having one of those days!! 😂

I wish I could remember the company I contacted when I raced my hotshot in the 4wd class. I kept breaking control arms so I wrote to a company to see if they could make aluminum arms for it. One day ups drops off a box and when I opened it, there were a set of red anodized aluminum arms for the Hotshot. I just wish I could remember who the company was that I wrote to. Lol My hotshot actually did pretty good against the yokomo's that most of the guys raced.

I wish I could help but back then aluminum hop-ups were a thing of hopes and dreams! That stuff was pricy back then! I have heard they did really well on the track but most racers did not like the limited adjustments of the suspension tuning. I also heard a lot of track time and you usually started breaking the chassis is it got stressed from all the jumping and it is not the most supported attachment points for the front and rear. I don't have any prior experience with it as this one is my first one! I just love it looks fast and looks like it already won the race just by its stance!!!

Did you use the uprights from the red D tree or did you use the two that were provided separately?
@AddamsPlayground

I used the other ones. I goofed up and put the ball studs on the wrong way so it gave it all the bump steer. I flipped them over and it works like it should now! I swear I looked at those instructions a dozen times before I figured out what I did wring. I was having a brain free day I guess! LOL!

LOL! I wish! I did have a few kits come in recently either through back orders or things I found and scooped up and I had some time off so I did get a few build done back to back. It just aligned to where the build all came out right after another. It is going to dry up soon and there will be more running video and other content coming. I still have a a couple kits coming (backorders and a couple great eBay finds!) but they won't be ready for videos for a few more weeks.

It is all good! BTW the front steering is wrong and I need to flip the ball studs to get rid of the bump steer! I will get it fixed, brain took a break on that part I think! So, no worries on your comment, I made an entire video of the car and didn't realize I had goofed up the front end!!
