Cheers mate. Yeah actually having one to build would increase the relevance of this one but glad you enjoyed it anyway. What's not to like about a middle aged man banging on about his little plastic truck! I am a bit slow at getting these vids out but hopefully part 2 soon. I've just taken delivery of an Axial Yeti kit. I blame Derek and his excellent video of the Yeti Score! Just looking through it and it looks like an awesome kit and more complicated than the Tamiyas I've done so far. I need to stop buying kits until I've built the one's I have although I have also ordered the TT-02 drift spec which will be converted to rally spec for the Datsun body. Hope you are continuing to enjoy the break. Thanks again for your support mate :-)

@@PeteWylieRC Nice one Pete - well I bang on about them too! And the Yeti sounds interesting - look forward to seeing that. Funny, I was looking at a new kit yesterday, read the spec of the TT-02D and thought "what a bargain, I must get one!" TimeTunnel has a Skyline bodied one for 126 quid, worth the extra over the chassis only to get a spare basher shell, and I already have 3 or 4 bodies that will fit. I want a go at drifting, but I could always adapt it later to rally. I think you mentioned the D model was worth getting before, for the bearings, motor and CVA goodies that are included. Just got back from Liverpool Uni (fetching my little girl) so looking forward to a cool beer soon! Laters mate! :-)

@@MarkBryanRC Yeah I did nearly get the D spec TT-02 with a body because as you say it's not much to get a spare shell but I've got so many things to paint and build that I just got the chassis. Yeah I think it's a good price with the bearings and oil shocks included. From memory the shocks have the fixed piston ends so you can't choose the number of holes but they damp at a good rate anyway. Enjoy that beer when you get it :-)

This is an awesome video Pete 👌👍 great instruction and tips on building this chassis, thankyou so much. I've been thinking about a 5th shock modification on a Hornet and had a pretty good idea but was looking at using a Dremel to cut a slot for shock eyelet , but now I've seen your method and it's even easier than a Dremel plus reduces the chance of having a slip up at high speed with a rotary tool. One thing that I'd be really OCD about would be measuring where this slot needs to be , I suppose you could centre the eyelet from the shaft that goes through the gearbox. I've just built the Hornet and I don't have it in front of me now but will check in the daylight, the gearbox isn't symmetrical is it. Like both halves are slightly different sizes in length from where they join to where the wheel pin goes through.I also didn't understand the slight notch on the motor shaft where the pinion grub screw is located. I don't think I've noticed that ever on a motor shaft. You're not referring to the flat side where the grub screw clamps are you? All RC motors have that flattened side but I haven't noticed a small notch on the motor shaft. I just use a ruler or a vernier caliper to measure distance from top of pinion gear to top of motor can as per instruction manual. Anyway man you've Lunchbox looks great. Can't wait to see it completed and running around , althour you're build videos are excellent. Keep it up Pete 👌👍
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Many thanks for your great feedback. I think with the motor I was talking about the fact that the brushed motor has a bump on top where the motor shaft comes out whereas the brushless one is totally flat. The instructions say to put a bit of paper between the pinion and the motor but that's only ok if your motor has the bump. I find that the best way to get the pinion in the right place is just to put it on the motor and offer it up to the gearbox without the cover so you can see how it aligns with the spur gear. I don't know if you are using a brushless motor? If you are then you will see the difference between that and the brushed motor in the kit. Hope that explains it. Cheers, Pete

Just getting back into Tamiya after a 30+ year absence, just built a Pumpkin with my daughter and looking to get a Lunchbox next...for me! So new subscriber here. Quick question, why do you use superglue instead of treadlock? Thank you, Gary
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 жыл бұрын
Ah yes it is a familiar story of people (including myself) getting back into the hobby after a 30 year gap. Threadlock must only be used for metal on metal for instance the grub screw in the pinion. It will melt and weaken plastic so I use super glue for some of the self tapping screws that are likely to shake loose. Good luck with the Lunchbox build and thanks for the sub 😁

@@garyredmond1890 yeh it did the same to my Super Hot Shot when I had completely finished the car and used Loctite in the aluminium antenna tube and the fine thread machine screw to hold in the aluminium antenna tube. Well the Loctite must have leaked even though that's 2 metal to metal surfaces and completely broke off the top deck of chassis where the antennas bolt on 😭😡 I was not happy. And I only found out in the morning because I put the finished Super Hot Shot on a chair next to my bed overnight. Luckily the hobby shop I go to had a spare chassis and I snapped it up the same day. But literally what a rude awakening 😭😭 fixed now though. That little car has a Tamiya super stock RZ motor and full bearings throughout plus a 13 tooth pinion gear to work on the higher rev range of that motor which spins at 27500 RPM. So as not to over gear the motor the advice is to use a 13 tooth pinion and it has Louise phantom tyres and wheels on rear which are really nice and sticky.plus saves my brand new Tamiya Super Hot Shot tyres. Anyway it reaches 27 mph or 45 kmh .I'm in Australia pretty good and faster than my Kyosho Fazer Chevy Camaro Z28 with brushed G14 motor which only gets 42 kmh. Although some guy on KZbin says he has the same motor and it can reach 70 kmh. But that's in a tt02 chassis I think he said , so it's got higher gearing for a asphalt track surface than an off road car like a Hot Shot. .and it wheel stands too 💪👍👌

@@wizardwithguns1 yeah it isn't a cheap upgrade. To be honest it doesn't make a big difference to the basic springs in the kit. It's a bouncy truck regardless. There isn't all that much up and down travel on the back and it's mainly the tyres absorbing the bumps. Oil shocks make a much bigger difference on buggies etc. Anyway good luck finding something cheaper if you do decide to upgrade 😀

@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. You can't use the kit springs for the 5th shock because they don't have tops as such. They just poke through a hole in the chassis but I'm not sure you could do that with the middle shock. You need another one of those little metal brackets if you are going oil shocks all round. It is kind of expensive but you do need 3 sets of shocks if you want to do all of them. If you are building 2 Lunchboxes then obviously you will have one spare as a fifth shock for that. Happy spending! Not sure what the availablity is like as I'm currently waiting for a set of Tamiya mini shocks. Obviously things haven't been moving around the world as efficiently recently. Hopefully more stock soon. Let me know if you need any more info. Cheers 😁
