Thank you so much, Sir, you are too kind. TBH, I finished the build before I had my trip to hospital, I just hadn't had time to edit the videos of the build. The paint job went a bit wrong, as you will see, but it's not that bad. I ran it on the lawn and it really flies - runs and hops like a good 'un! As for the lights, thanks again - but I found 2 LEDS in my spares box and have wired them up to the front. Looks awesome - also made a little "cabin" to stop the view through the windows to the interior of the truck. Loved this project, mate - can't wait to see what you think of the finished van. Hey Mark, really good to see you back with this build video. These Lunchies are as straightforward to build as they come as I'm sure you know, but will offer bags and bags of fun when on the track, in the woods etc. None stop action. You don't know how lucky you are ( or maybe you do ) in replacing those BS3 springs with the brace. Those BS3 springs for me are the achilles heel of this kit as they will snap - time and time again. Having said that the van runs just as well without them. Look forward especially to seeing what you do with that huge canvas of a body shell. Have a great weekend mate....😊🙂👍🏻

Hello my good friend! Yeah, I built the kit before I had to go to hospital - on sick leave now, so time to edit the footage and get the videos up! I had a little run in the garden and it was awesome! Oh, the brace was a great addition, it seems to run better than Rob's that is stock at the back end. Glad I don't have to worry about those springs breaking! The body looks great from a distance - but I messed up the lacquer :-/ Oh well, all my cars are runners, so it ain't so bad! Wishing you a lovely weekend, too, buddy. :)

Are the bs3 springs the wire spring in the rear diff mount? I should know I built a Hornet on 1 week ago. If that's them , I really don't like them. I actually reckon the Grasshopper hopper rear end was better and a only needed oil filled shocks. Sure it doesn't eliminate the problem with unsprung weight that's in the gearbox and differential. But the Grasshopper rear end is better than the Hornet I my opinion. I'm interested in doing the 5th shock modification to my Hornet though. It's basically a shock absorber put on the axle shaft that mounts the differential to the chassis, and then bolts to the main Grasshopper/ Hornet chassis up too. And it does eliminate that horrible sloppy differential slap that is present in both Hornet and Grasshopper.its available to view on KZbin. Looks great and such a smart idea too. Makes you wonder , well me wonder why Tamiya released the Hornet with this built in problem area. I mean I understand the entire principal of the design. But to expect those tiny tiny little wire springs to actually do this work on a chassis is pretty far fetched. Anyhow good news is it can be remedied with a 5th shock modification.👌💪👍

Nice, Mark! Finally got some time to start watching this series. Uhh, that pinion and motor mount was all new to me. I always thought the set up was identical to the Hornet (same gear box) ... but it seems they've chosen to gear it down with that 10T pinion ... maybe because of the larger tires. Makes sense, or else it would probably do 40 kph with the 18T Hornet pinion. Too much for Tamiya :-) Anyways, I enjoyed watching as always. Hope I will soon get time to watch part 2. Built mine back in early 2020. It was an enjoyable build, especially the gearbox. Wasn't so keen on the painting bit and went for a custom colour scheme as the yellow is so ugly. Fitted the metal bearings right at the start since there's no sense in using the plastic bushings. Recently been thinking about some other changes - like proper oil-filled shocks.

Hi Oliver and thank you for the great comment! I'm really pleased that the videos came in handy. You´re back! I´m very pleased to see that you seem recovered. I greatly enjoyed this as I had a Midnight Pumpkin for many years, and the gearbox assembly lives on as an integral part of my electric converted Mardave Stockmaster. After 30 years of trouble-free service, it´s started making a worrying clicking sound under load, so I´ll be referring to this video again when I get round to pulling it apart to see what´s up. One thing I´ve often wondered; why is it that the Lunchbox went on to become a Tamiya icon, while the Midnight Pumpkin, with its gorgeous ´53 Ford F100 body, ended up as a forgotten footnote in Tamiya history? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi Del - yes, back for a while, hopefully! I am resting, but still have the same symptoms :-/ At least I'm well enough to make some videos and it keeps me occupied... Hope there is nothing too serious with your gearbox! Let's hope it is a cheap and simple fix. I know you are an avid fan of the Midnight Pumpkin, with good reason! I agree, the body is it's crowning glory. I have no idea why the Lunch Box became the icon, but maybe it's the strange love affair that many seem to have with old vans, like the Bedford, Transit and VW Camper? I hope we get a few comments on this thread, very interesting thoughts, Del! :O)

@@MarkBryanRC I loved the Bedford CF, and have owned a Mk. II Transit and a VW T3 camper, so I do see what you men about the appeal of old van bodies. Hi Mark, first things first, how are you? I’ve seen comments of feelings of pain, hospitalisation and sick leave, are you actually on the road to recovery? It’s great to see you back in the workshop, building a fantastic Tamiya. I know Pete loves the Lunchbox and has heavily modified his to a real brushless mean machine. Nice editing and great that you’re keeping your mind busy while convalescing. Get well soon bud, look forward to seeing back at the favourite stomping ground(s) giving that Lunchbox its first run. My regards to the family too.😉👌

Thanks very much, John, you are very kind, Sir! I left an explanation on your channel. Oh yes, this will never be as crazy as Pete's Lunchbox!!! But then I never go too mad with the power, it just causes too many issues with wear and tear for my liking. Regards to you and yours, too, my good friend.

By the way, I love hearing that frog or cricket noise in the background. Surely contributes to the relaxing effect your videos have on me. It seems they are to be heard all year round where you live. Or do you edit that in? :)

Great video! I’m thinking about getting one I was just wondering… Does the kit come with the grease and the tools? Many thanks

Many thanks Dan! Oh yes it's a great kit. It does come with the grease and a box spanner and a hex wrench for the pinion screw, but you will need a cross head screwdriver and some side cutters or a knife. All the best! 😎👍

Hi Mark! Do you know which grease Tamiya use in the Lunchbox kit by any chance? I want to get something similar in a bigger tub. Those little tubes don’t go very far! 😩🤣 Keep up the great work with the channel 👍👌
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 ай бұрын
Hi Dan! I think the Lunchbox comes with the standard tamiya grease in a tiny tube (not ceramic grease or moly grease). I bought a big pot of Castrol moly grease from Halfords years ago and I use that on most my Tamiyas! Cheers! 🍻😎👍

GLAD YOU'RE BACK!! 🎉🎉🎉🍻🍻 That build WOULD be a "one-er"... I believe there's only 6 more parts than a Grasshopper! 😲😜😂 But it's probably good for some others that you slow it down a bit. I am SO glad you got that Gearbox Brace!! I was looking for a way to get one to you before you started. I'm glad that's sorted. 😊 You're about to find that these are more fun than a Cat with a Barrel of Monkeys!! 😁👍👍 What Turn Motor did you go for? Please - my dear Friend - check your email, and maybe spam folder!!! 😲 One of my titles may have triggered your inbox. I sent you 4 separate emails with a video each... That's, well, SHOCKING!! At least to me. I've still got the shivers after watching them! 😳😧 NOT vulgar or anything, just beyond surprising. Most importantly - KEEP GETTING BETTER!!! All our Love to you and your Family.

Cheers, matey - yep, could have done the build in one video, but as I thought this kit might appeal to beginners, I thought I'd go over all the build process in it's entirety - might help someone! Yep, that brace does a great job, so much better than stock. It ran beautifully in the garden, when it wasn't standing on it's back wheels, that is! It's a 15 turn Core RC motor - got a bit of speed! I got to your emails - sorry, but I usually watch them straight away, it's my replying that is slow!! I think I am OK, but the doc ain't so sure, we will hopefully see more next week. Take care, brother! :)))

Thinking about stripping down my Rising Fighter and putting the electrics in a Lunchbox. The Rising Fighter has been quite disappointing really

Whether you have a brace or not those axle springs break at the first jump and are a waste of time anyway
