Very well done. I like the back ground story to the particular P47 beautifully presented as well, a good diorama base really brings things to life.

Hi Brad, I loved this model and all your work. It is inspirational for me. Im 68 and have multiple neurological issues so painting while my favorite part off modelling is very difficult. I ate decals.😏 Anyway, great job and wonderful to hear about this amazing individual. My uncle, Dad's half brother, Ayers McGrew was in the Pacific but due to vastibular disfunction could not be a pilot. He was a capt in army air corp group 7 in intelligence responsible for setting the machine gun timing chains and scouting out snipers. Thanks again. (sorry if I got your name wrong, I don't hear too well).

That's pretty cool inspiration to do that particular Jug. If you haven't seen the movie, "Fighter Squadron", I'd highly recommend it. It has a very young Robert Stack in it. It was filmed at what would become Wurtsmith AFB and features lots of technicolor P-47 action! The plot follows a P-47 squadron in Europe leading up to D-Day. It's one of my favorite war movies.

Just found your site and have to say you do some really nice builds. Also enjoy that you put a little of the history of the aircraft and pilot with the build. This really helps the younger modelers and even older modelers who might not know the story ab out a particular aircraft. Thanks

One of the coolest builds I've seen lately, I absolutely love it, beautiful work!!! I do need to ask, however, I didn't notice too much in the way of exhaust staining. I just wonder if a plane that weathered that it would be present? You should be proud of this one keep up the great work you just gained a new subscriber.
@HammerheadModelMaking
@HammerheadModelMaking 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the subscription, I really appreciate it. As for the exhaust, I only added a little because from the reference pictures I saw of p-47s that were painted Olive Drab over Neutral Gray, I didn't see a lot of Black "sooty" staining, is was usually the grey type staining that you might see on the top side of a p-38. This is what I tried to replicate.

Really enjoyed your build. Tamiya's P-47 is still one of the best Thunderbolt available in the 1/48 scale. Some people might argue that the Hasegawa's P-47 is more accurate but, at least for me, Tamiya's is the better kit of the two.
@HammerheadModelMaking

I haven't seen the Hasegawa kit, but I don't know how it would be able to compete with how well the Tamiya kit goes together. I absolutely loved building this kit.

@@HammerheadModelMaking yeah I just got back into model building. So really I'm just learning. I had a big collection of model airplanes that I built from being a little kid all the way into my teenage years period and I had to store all of my stuff at my sisters house for a little while and her kids decided to have dog fights with my airplanes. After that I kind of just quit building them.

Quick question; you mentioned the plane was transferred from a Brazilian squadron; if this was late WW2, I had no idea there were South American squadrons using 1st line aircraft like the P47D; (yes, I've heard of Polish and maybe even French squadrons); what theater and timeframe was this ?
@HammerheadModelMaking
@HammerheadModelMaking 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had no idea either before researching this project, here is some additional info: www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/Visit/Museum-Exhibits/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/196882/wwii-brazilian-air-force-aircrews/ They operated similar to how the polish did with the RAF but with the US Air Force.
