What a brilliant test. Showing that a Modded TT02 can keep up with the XV01. I must say though, the XV01 sounds really smooth! Never really seen one before.This looked like a lot of fun! 🇬🇧👍

Thanks Phil! Yeah, we did this series because we thought Tamiya fans would be interested to see if the more expensive car was that much better. Out of the box, of course it was! But now the TT02 has been modded, it's a different story. The XV01 is super smooth running because of the belt drive and oil filled diffs - I love it mate! It's a quality bit of kit. Appreciate the support, my friend. 🇬🇧👍

What a brilliant video showcasing two great Tamiyas. But he most impressive thing about it for me is your excellent driving towards yourself at speed whilst doing slaloming. Driving towards myself is still something that I have problems with, especially going fast. My brain struggles to work it out ! It's probably the main cause of unused video clips because I am always vearing of line into bushes and trees lol 😃😃😃

Thank you very much, Derek. I really appreciate the driving compliment, the "driving towards yourself" skill came from the 80's and 90's when I spent so much time Rcing with 2 stick radios and rather too much time on the PS1 and PS2 - the controllers are basically 2-sticks and I mainly played racing games where you would have to learn to reverse the steering when coming towards yourself. Eventually it becomes second nature (I think it's referred to as muscle memory). So I don't even have to think about it - as long as it's my thumbs on a stick! That's why I can't switch to those darn steering wheel thingies! Anyway mate, thanks for the kind words and I hope the weekend is going well my friend.

What a fascinating idea - timing rally stages with the two versions of car. That was some nifty driving Mark - I would have been genuinely all over the show with that. It looks like you only have to tickle the steering on either car to make those very slight turns. Great video mate and I am very much looking forward to stages two and three. Thumbs up...👍.

Thanks my friend Cosmo! Well, we had to do something to test Rob's upgrades, and running at the same time we seem to keep crashing into each other! Yeah, the slalom was a bit tricky, you haven't seen the practice runs I did before filming! I initially tried way too hard, going much faster - I could make a few cones well and then either veered off road or smashed straight into a cone or three! So I decided to be more cautious for the actual tests. As you say, only a tiny input is needed or you end up fishtailing wildly! So pleased you liked it mate - I'm well chuffed you did! Your thumbs up and support are greatly received! :))

Totally with you on that one - it has been a very interesting journey for us, seeing the TT02 go from strength to strength - and Rob focussed on all the issues highlighted in the first VS video, methodically approaching each area in his own unique style. I've been really tempted to pick up a Tamiya rally car and i've narrowed it down to these two. From looking at these videos, it looks like both perform very similar once the TT-02 has some upgrades. I think i prefer the central mounted motor position in the TT-02 as the XV-01 looks to have a lot of front weight bias and oversteer with the front mounted motor. Have you been able to resolve the issue with stones getting stuck under the propshaft?
@MarkBryanRC3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Good choices, both are great RC cars. If you can afford it, I recommend the XV01, it does oversteer, but in such a controllable and fun way! Yes, the TT02 is close with a lot of work, but it just doesn't feel the same. As an alternative, take a look at the TT02 Type S - now that chassis is a dark horse! The suspension is the same (ish) as the XV01 and it has the weight distribution of a TT02, you might love it! Oh, yeah, filling all the gaps in the TT02 chassis with hot glue stops the stones issue! All the best from Mark...
@scottishrc78573 жыл бұрын
@@MarkBryanRC Thanks very much Mark. Lots of good information there. What differences are they between the stock suspension on a regular TT-02 vs the S type? @@scottishrc7857 No worries. No, the Type S suspension is totally different to the stock TT02. Oh yeah I enjoyed that mate. Always great to have a challenge. Although the times were pretty much the same it still looked like the XV-01 handled better round the turns. Maybe just that you are more familiar with it. Which did you prefer? I do need to get a standard TT-02 kit for my Datsun 240Z body shell as it needs the shorter wheelbase and the standard TT-02 is the only one on sale that does that as far as I can tell. I'll certainly have a look at Robs channel as I haven't seen all of those mod videos. I guess it's half term week for you at the mo isn't it? Hope you are using the time wisely and having RC based fun. Laters mate :-)
@MarkBryanRC5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Pete - really pleased you enjoyed it mate! Yes, I would say the XV-01 turns better and is more controllable in a slide - but Rob's hopped-up TT-02 is faster in a straight line now. It still corners well, but I must admit that the XV feels a bit special. The longer wishbones make a difference, and the motor in front of the front wheels adds to the quicker turn-in. I know it's mine, but I definitely wouldn't swap for a TT-02! I remember you had that TA 01/02 Escort? I am pretty sure you can reverse the rear suspension arms to change the wheelbase - it might fit the 240Z! Yeah, half term bliss - time for a nice long G&T - Cheers!!! :-)

@@MarkBryanRC Yeah I am still tempted by the Lancia Delta XV-01 as a future project although the fact that you are saying that there isn't an easy way to prevent grit in the steering put me off a little. Great comments Carmine! Thanks very much me old mukka! Yes, Rob's mods have truly transformed the TT02 into a racing machine! It is indeed very planted, and much faster than the stock car. As for the XV01, yes it can oversteer if you turn it in too aggressively. It takes time to get used to the different handling of each, and I must say I wasn't very consistent, I had to slow down with both cars just to get around the course without missing a cone or knocking into one. The fact that I have been mainly driving my Type-S recently just made it more difficult for my poor old brain to compute! Anyway, I'm pleased with the outcome as they do feel pretty equal overall when driving. We have different surfaces to run on in the next 2 stages, so we will see! As for the #4, yes I totally agree mate! All the other Tamiya WRC rally car bodies I have come with options in the decal pack, to enable you to choose different numbers and driver team livery that was available for the teams in the real WRC. The Lancer Dakar rally body came with 4 options, including rally numbers, the Dakar logos and driving team names and nationality flags! Unfortunately, there was only one set (#4) for the Lancia Delta - or we sure would have chosen different liveries! Thanks again for the (always interesting) words my friend. Very interesting, the XV-01 is way cleaner through the cones and seams to have better control, were as the TT-02 seams to be a wild child through them, hitting them on the way through. If there was a 2 second penalty on hitting a cone, then i think we would all know which car has better cornering. Its just looks so much crisper and more sure footed through the turns, i think the XV-01 has it hands down.
@MarkBryanRC3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Jay! Thanks for the thoughtful comment, I can tell you have studied the video closely! Yes, the TT02 really is a "wild child"! It is faster with the Torque Tuned motor, but more of a handful in the handling department. It was tricky to switch between the two cars, as they drive very differently. But I certainly prefer the XV-01, it is more forgiving and turns very nice and flat when you get used to it. All the best from Mark...
@kentonian2 жыл бұрын
I’m afraid not. There is a thing called polar moment of inertia. Regardless of the weight distribution with the motor hanging out of the front it will never handle as good as it would if the motor was behind the front axels. You would have to tune the car with the best springs and oil etc to get an accurate comparison. That is why with the xv02 they have put the motor in the middle.
@jaybond93862 жыл бұрын
@@kentonian that works for full size cars too, that is why the group B peugot 205 turbo 16 has the engine near the middle of the car, there was a video on youtube by the team explaining this.

Have a look at these choices: Battery: hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-stick-pack-sub-c-4200mah-7-2v-nimh-high-power-series.html Charger: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295927713592?hash=item44e6aa8f38:g:4WwAAOSwm2Fk ESC: hobbyking.com/de_de/hobbywing-quicrun-60a-2s-3s-waterproof-brushed-esc-for-1-10.html

Is it the camera or does the TT02 have to much toe-in at the Front
@MarkBryanRC4 жыл бұрын
It's a bit of both my friend, the camera wide angle lens makes it look much worse, but it was a little too much so we straightened it out a bit for the run! All the best from Mark. :)

Why are Earth are you guys still using the stock Tamiya connectors? I guarantee the cars would both be faster with just a Dean's plug.
@MarkBryanRC5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, Tyler. I must admit that I didn't realise that the Tamiya connectors were restricting current flow :-)
@octane6135 жыл бұрын
@@MarkBryanRC hugely! Even with just the modern escs and nimh, you're losing a lot of burst power through the Tamiya connectors as heat. Back in the days of hand made nicd batteries and low power mechanical speed controls they were fine, but now they're just a fire hazard!
@MarkBryanRC5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info, Tyler - very useful! I'm gonna check to see if my connectors get warm on the next run - may be shopping for some Dean's plugs soon! All the best from Mark. :-)

@@MarkBryanRC I believe it would be fantastic if you could make a video on the subject. I only recently found you because of I was doing some research on the xv-01 I've bought and you're pretty comprehensive. All the best!

Glad you found me, Tyler! Yeah, gonna look into this, and a vid on the cards if I find something. Cool - you got an XV-01, what a fantastic Tamiya, hope you have loads of fun with it pal!

Confrontare una auto cardanica economica con una a cinghia media non dimostra niente. E' ovvio che l'auto a cinghia e migliore in qualunque situazione. Ciao.

Hello! I try to understand your message "Comparing an economic cardan car with a medium belt does not prove anything. It is obvious that the belt drive is better in any situation. Hello." I do not fully understand! The TT02 with shaft drive is very good too - see my new video on Friday, the TT02 type-s is amazing! Thanks for watching my friend! :-)

So in typical Tamiya RC fashion, there is cheap plastic where there should be real bushings, plastic shocks that are dry and should be oil filled and metal and an all plastic drivetrain that should be metal. Tamiya make one lousy rc car. Their bodies and static models are nice but their Rc offerings are straight garbage compared to Kyosho.
@MarkBryanRC3 жыл бұрын
Hi - I agree about the plastic bushings and dry shocks! However, those Tamiya kits are only about £100. The cheapest Kyosho is far more expensive. If you compare one to a Tamiya kit that costs £250-300, you will find that the specifications are not so different, definitely oil shocks and a metal driveline! I also like Kyosho, and not all Tamiya kits are garbage, in my humble opinion.

Hey! What would you recommend for radio transmitter, servo, esc, receiver, battery and charger for the xv-01? (Budget focus) thanks in advance
