My interpretation: the stock motors has a neutral timing (0°), while tuned brushed motors add some "pre-ignition" that pushes the inrush current during the first second beyond what the battery can do, without voltage drop. When some base speed is reached, the inrush current drops and the momentum of the 12°-brushes can play their muscles. I'd try some LiPo that delivers 40A = has much lower impedance than NiCd/NiMh. NiCd were beasts, that endured the bad treatment of the 200+W-class, but got really hot, due to their inner resistance. Maybe, also the frequency of the ESC adds to the effect - 2kHz speed controllers give other momentum than 10-20kHz FETs.

It looks like the stock marbuchi accelerates better or is it just me? I have a super stock RZ and although not done a comparison like this is "feels" a hell of a lot faster that stock silver can.

Not sure about the RZ, but the sport tuned motor is not even close to the claimed 350 g-cm

I fitted ball bearings to my Tamiya RZ motor. Con you do a comparison with the Tamiya Super Stock 23t RZ motor fitted with ball bearings compaired to a RZ motor with the standard brass bushing. I could swear that it was faster with longer run time, probably would live longer also. Cheers

TZ is for endurance race or low speed track. RZ is for sprint race or high speed track. BZ is for Offroad. These explanations are on the TAMIYA website.
