if you have enough human resource(workers) and your family member may work in the land then you can do agriculture, else tree plantation is best and better then keep plain land. if I see one mango/jackfruit wasted in my land then I feel bad, i have amla(peru nelli) and wasted. I have country almond and sandal wood trees and I am able to see those fruits are ate by birds, I do not feel bad. because I did not think those are not wasted. If you are plant fruits tree then you have get the proper selling point. some one not fully depended with land then you can go with timber trees, you are expect income from the land then please keep some land for short time crops.

Pasumai paalaivanam , you have given a wrong information. The land that you are cultivating now was once a forest, you have destroyed that and doing farming, in Timber trees like Rosewood, Vengai or Mahagony, there are flowers which attract honeybees and birds in huge numbers. Where will the birds live if you plant everything selfishly only for humans? Also note that most of the agricultural lands are kept empty which is not farmed, these lands can be used for Timber cultivation. The labour for men today is around 700 to 1000 rs, tell me what cash crop is able to give profit? Most of the vegetable farmers end up in huge losses. Also to note that trees help to bring more rains and rejuvenate the soil which your cash crops cannot do. Do not give wrong information to farmers when India is importing around 1 lakh crore worth of Timber year in year.
