Tammy and Eric did a decibel test last night. Near the tank it measured 32db. In a closet with absolutely no noise, 12db. When their tv is playing, 57db. The point? My iPhone's microphone is the noise level I was referring to in the video, and if I'd used wired or wireless mics it would have been a better sounding interview. When you are there in person it's not noisy at all. Heck, a dead silent reef makes me very uncomfortable, not unlike any parent that knows their kids are up to no good when it's way too quiet all of a sudden. That's when we know something's wrong and needs attention. Hopefully this makes sense. There, I feel better now. - Marc

Very inspirational to see someone is willing to put this much time and effort into a reef tank. Makes me want to go and clean my nano tank right now! She really needs to put anemones in the clown tank instead of those plastic corals. Also, it's strange how big fish can make a giant tank like this look small!

@JanetDiaz61529 жыл бұрын
And way to go Tammy.. Love seeing other Women in this hobby..
@CrazyTManagement9 жыл бұрын
I run a dehumidifier to help reduce the humidity levels since it's not enclosed. I loose about 3 to 5 gallons every 2 days depending on time of year - as heat runs, more evaporation. Humidity in the house runs between 32% and 47%.

"Son of a Reefer!", nice tank Just curious with all the planning, why didn't you simply move the loud pumps into the basement or another room? How much support jacks had to be used on the flooring with over 8,000lbs of weight? amazing
@melevsreef8 жыл бұрын
There are no basements in Texas. Concrete slabs on bedrock (limestone). The tank isn't loud at all; that just what the camera's microphone picked up unfortunately. The follow up video will use lavalier mics that will be far better.

Go to Home Depot and purchase 1.5" duct board and foil tape. Build a box to enclose each motor, this material is super easy to work with and can be cut with a standard kitchen knife. The db rating will drop more than half. We use this method for much bigger motors and compressors. Love the tank!
@joshthibodeaux96239 жыл бұрын
Music studios use the same material on the walls but the duct board is wrapped in cloth. They charge a small fortune for it when the materials are around $60.00.
@melevsreef9 жыл бұрын
Josh Thibodeaux Thanks for the tip. Would trapped heat from the duct board harm the pumps? The tank isn't noisy, which I explained in the description. My iPhone's microphone makes it seem way louder; the room is nice and quiet in person.
@joshthibodeaux96239 жыл бұрын
Good question, it's doubtful that you would be able to make the box "air tight" enough to trap that much heat to cause a thermal trip in the motor. Hypothetically if you were able the water moving through the impeller would have a significant heat transfer from the motor despite not having direct contact. In short, no; but I still wanted to give an explanation. Thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work! I would have been lost without your videos.
