Kress was the precursor to Kresge. Their buildings in downtown Durham NC and Greensboro NC have been rehabbed into condos, hopefully that will happen in Tampa as well.

Stumbled upon your series with the ND videos since I used to live there but am now in Tampa. I work at the Tampa Theatre - mostly movies. 😉 It was neat seeing you look into the closed building with the church just behind because it was leveled likely only a week or two after you filmed it. And we're crossing fingers the Kress building will be restored soon.

My family and I spent the last two weeks of December 2009 in St. Pete and Tampa Bay area and the temp. never got into the 60 degrees. With the wind blowing it was cold.

St Pete’s downtown is more vibrant than tampas but Tampa has begun a revitalization of downtown. Sparkman wharf in channelside, water st project are prime examples of that and you missed both. They are near Amalie arena.

I been there, the exact same place at the beach on Treasure Island around the same time in the year (late January 2010) Not a single soul was there, only me and my rented 2010 Camaro❤️

Downtown Tampa is developing rapidly especially housing,the riverwalk is very popular,there are still a few sketchy areas.There are much nicer sections of downtown.

I remember when people used to tell you to not cross the train tracks in Ybor. Im guessing Joe didnt know Ybor or that Tampa / St Pete / Clearwater are a tri city type of deal. Also Dunedin, Tarpon Springs and the NPR missed you.

You should go back to st pete when possible, in the nearly 3 years since you've been numerous buildings complete, lots of cranes in the air still so probably 3 more years of heavy building til it slows down a bit, the Tampa people know St pete has the much better downtown

St Pete is FAR cooler than Tampa. Also more $$$$. Pinellas County were St Pete is located, is THE DENSEST populated county in the state of Florida. And traffic sucks now year round. Oddly rent and home prices have doubled or tripled in the past 5 years yet average salaries in the area can’t afford the average rent or mortgage, forcing many to leave or get roommates

My personal preference are the Atlantic Ocean beaches, but Florida's Gulf beaches are wonderful too.

Even decades ago, Tampa was superficially quite pretty, but non professional employment pay rates were low, still are. Parts of Tampa, were much less nice than St. Pete. The biggest horror was the double edged sword of its climate. Even in March, the heat and humidity were killer bad, just intolerable for some people. That heat and humidity fogs clear thinking, increases irritability and is simply uncomfortable despite the nice scenery. Nice to visit ? Oh, yeah. But LIVE there? You better think VERY hard on that.

No it isn’t. He showed 20 mins. Snow bird season. Lots of old people. Ambulances have sirens. The gators are in rivers, ponds and lakes mostly.

Locals saying "It's as cold as it gets" are lying. Wake up at 6am to 19*F mornings to get on the buss. (back 20 years ago), but sometimes still close. Oh it gets colder than that during the daytime too. Mid day it'll get 50's. Easy. This is just the simple fluctuation of mother nature.
