Highlights of the 1999 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers posted an 11-5 record, winning the NFC Central Division and also featured one of the best defenses in the NFL. In the the playoffs, The Bucs defeated the Washington Redskins 14-13 but lost to the St Louis Rams 11-6 in the NFC Championship game.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who favor the 99' squad to the 02' team. I feel it personally would have meant more. It was Tony and the original gang that brought an identity and changed our misery , they deserved it. They started slow on offense but then Dilfer and the offense started to get on a roll.Finished 8-1!!! They were on a roll and they still had leagues #1 defense. They had Abraham, young Ronde,and Brian Kellly in their nickel.Hardy was better than Quarles. Simeon was great on 02' team though.Just should have been ours- team was 9-1 going into St Louis. They played way too conservative in the postseason and I think King was a little overwhelmed. IMHO if Dilfer didn't get hurt we win it all.No way Tenn stagnant O beats us.

This 99 team was special no doubt. 2000 looked promising, having a rookie quarterback that nearly led them to the superbowl. It should've only gotten better from there. I don't know why it didn't tho the following 2 seasons. Maybe Dungy's philosophy wasn't the best for trying to develop a young quarterback at the time. Nevertheless, the Bucs, were the team he built. It's a shame '02 wasn't his superbowl. That 1 loss ,ironically, on that 9-1 stretch was a 45-0 thrashing to none other than Gruden's Raiders, which defies logic, when considering how well they played before and after

If he catches the ball, isn't it still 3rd and 12? The Bucs offense was so putrid, I'm not sure they get it anyway. That's a convenient excuse for a lot of people who refuse to acknowledge that Dungy's teams were too one sided.

1999-2002 Buccaneers had a hell of a defense. Still can't believe that Bert Emmanuel catch was ruled incomplete.

From 1998 - 2008 The Bucs defense ranked either #1, top 5, or top 10 (except in 2006). I don't believe that's ever been done in NFL history. They also ranked #10 overall in defense in 2015. That's a total of 11 seasons being ranked top 10 in defense. The Bucs defense also had an NFL record 69 consecutive games with a sack. They do not get enough credit.

As a matter of fact, the Bucs defense in 1979 finished #1 and only allowed a total of 246.8 yards a game. The Steel Curtain defense that year was #2 and allowed an average of 266.9. I just found that out and I am very impressed! The Bucs defense was also ranked #3 in '82.

I will put the 79 Buccaneers and the 99 Buccaneers in to 2000 Buccaneers in the 2001 Buccaneer team and the 2002 Super Bowl buccaneer they had a long defensive presents these are some of my favorite Buccaneer best teams in and Buccaneers franchise history their playoff run from 1997 to 2003

That NFC Championship loss to the Rams was one of the most frustrating and painful games I have ever seen. The officiating was brutal.

This was the game when Dilfer was plowed to the turf and suffered a broken clavicle. Sean King took over for the rest of the year and the Bucs went to the 1999 NFC Championship with King under center.

Buccaneers uniforms and helmets since 1997 was good when in 2013 they had their uniform numbers look like digital clocks with a pewter helmet and chrome face mask.

I will never forget that NFC Championship game against the Rams. It was a ton of "What If" plays. If we score 6 instead of 3 on the First Quarter Int? Our play selection of Bert Emmanuel's catch is not overruled? Our Defense was dominant in 2002 but this game was the best Defense I had ever seen. We shut the Greatest Show on Turf, down. Bryan Kelly gave up that play to Bad Boy Ricky Proel. What a throw, what a catch.

The bucs was always known for defense however the offense and bad head coaches was our Achilles heel. 99 team had the talent to go the super bowl that year. I look forward to hopefully seeing the bucs get there #gobucs #firethecannons

Robert Thompkins agreed with you that's why Tony Dungy got fired after the 2001 season cause he never put the focus on the offense and relied to much on Sapp, Lynch, and Brooks to carry the load for 16 games that's why they fire Dungy and got Grudden and Grudden West Coast Offense definitely exploded this teams offense later in 2002 season.

Actually the 2002 squad was better statically than 1999 squad. the 99 squad was 3rd in scoring defense, 2nd against the pass and 5th against the run. 2002 squad is 1st in scoring defense allowing 196 points, 1st against the pass, 6th against the run. I'll say 1999 squad was more talented, younger, and meaner. They played the rams tough they created the blue print to beat them and slow them down. A year before the bucs beat the 1998 vikings and were the only team to beat them. Holding the 99 rams to 11 points heck if they beaten the would have held them to 5 points.The 99 rams had the best scoring offense and 4th rank scoring defense to boot. I remember the bucs gave the rams many problems after the NFC championship game every-time the played them. I remember in 2001 offseason the rams hired lovie smith from the bucs to have info on them and have top defense to help the rams get them to the Superbowl.

even though the 2002 squad ranked higher in those statistical categories, its easier for a defense to rank high with an offense that's able to keep them off the field.... i would say the 99 team D was better but the 99 team O couldn't stay on the field as effectively as the 02 O

@@geeskin5750 2002 was the last year of their championship window. Gruden was an all-in move and it worked. The next year, everything went wrong. Brian Kelly was out most of the year. Lots of guys missing games here and there. Alstott and Jurevicius basically knocked each other out for the season on the same play - Alstott jammed his head into the back of Jurevicius’s knee the second game of the year and neither of them were ever quite the same after that. Keyshawn turned into a locker-room cancer, and they had three act of God losses. After that the team went to salary cap jail and they had traded all the picks they needed to do a proper rebuild to bring in Gruden. But even if they had them, Gruden was not a guy who really wanted to build through the draft. (There’s a reason George Allen’s son was his GM.) He plugged holes with veterans for awhile and treaded water, but it wore thin.
