Specifically came here for 2:21:20. Probably one of the most hilarious game ending plays ever. The fact that it came during a playoff game made it even funnier 😂 If there’s one play that sums up the Detroit Lions in the Super Bowl era, it’s that one.
@walterlv012 жыл бұрын
That whole last possession by the Lions was a mess - down by 10 with 2 minutes left and they had no sense of urgency at all. Just dinked and dunked until the clock ran out.
@johnselwitz53622 жыл бұрын
As hilarious as spiking the ball on 4th down is, the game was pretty much over regardless of what else happened. To me, the play that perfectly summed up Detroit’s ineptitude during the 90s occurred at 55:14. It had been an ugly start for the Lions, but the game was still very much within reach. Score a touchdown on that drive, and they’re right back in it. It’s 4th down and a couple inches. Scott Mitchell was not a great quarterback but the one thing he had going for him is he was HUGE! 6 foot 6, 250 pounds, literally all he has to do in that situation is snap the ball and fall forward, and TA-DA, it’s a new set of downs for Detroit. Instead, he tries to pretend like he’s Steve Young, lumbers out to his left, gets as far away from the first down marker as possible, and throws the limpest looking pass I’ve ever seen to Herman Moore, who had no chance of getting to it. Even Madden and Summerall were like “wtf are they doing?” I’ll always remember watching this game live because at that point I just knew that there was no way the Lions were winning this game, they were trying to be too clever instead of doing what was logical
@untexan Жыл бұрын
@@walterlv01It was very hard to throw deep on the Tampa 2. You either had to have an all-time great receiver like Randy Moss, a rocket arm to hit the seams like Brett Favre, or just an insanely accurate passer like Kurt Warner. Otherwise, forget it.

27:21 was another example of Detroit folding like a cheap suit when the pressure was turned up. There’s three Lions players right there, just fall on the ball and set up your offense in great field position, that would have totally swung the momentum in Detroit’s favor. But they can’t do it, tripping over themselves like drunken imbeciles, and the ball somehow goes out of bounds. I felt bad for Barry Sanders, one of the best running backs in a generation, having to play on a team this incompetent
@tomcollins51123 жыл бұрын
The NFC Central had 4 playoff teams that year. The Packers, Vikings, Lions, and Buccaneers all had winning records and made the playoffs. Even though all these NFC Central teams made the playoffs, only the Lions defeated the Packers. Which they did rather handily at the Silverdome.

That play call on 4th and inches at 55:14 was absolutely baffling and hilarious. Maybe Bobby Ross called for that play but Scott Mitchell should’ve had enough common sense to see how the Bucs defense was lined up and called an audible to a quarterback sneak. He was not a good quarterback but the one thing he had going for him is he was a big guy, all he had to do was get the ball and immediately fall forward and it’s a first down. That play perfectly summed up the incompetence of the Detroit Lions in the 90s.
