I didn't have the original. But I got the new version yesterday and used it today during a day long special event. The lens performed great even in low light (one of the main reasons I bought it was for the constant 2.8 aperture). The zoom range is very useful. I still have to check the results on a computer. Hopefully the results will be good.

@GaryBox3 жыл бұрын
I won't upgrade. Most of the changes aren't that relevant. The button is nice to have. The original was able to focus pretty close, this new one being able to focus closer isn't much use when the corners are so soft, might as well just pony up for a macro lens. The newer focus motors would be something that might convince me to switch on something like a large telephoto zoom but at these focal lengths the old motors were fine. The fact they kept price decent means anyone who doesn't own original should get this but there isn't any reason for owners of existing model to sell theirs. I think Tamron would have done better to use their time on either a 24-70 f2.8 or maybe making a completely different lens like a macro or maybe a fast 50mm prime at decent price.

Which would you pick between this and the Sony 24-105mm f4 or even the Sigma 24-70 f2.8? and additionallly which would you choosed with the a7c?
@CC-gt3ro3 жыл бұрын
The 24-105 has better focal range more useful if you don’t have already a 17-28 tamron for example. Also it has lens stabilization which is important in video for walking footage. Also a7c has aps-c mode which give you up to 236mm with clearzom. 24-236 f/4 is very good for photo video. The 28-75 is good if you do night footage in dark environment with reduced light where 2.8 or less is needed. Personally i have 17-28 /f 2.8 (which cover 35mm with aps-c) and 70-300 for wildlife (900mm clearzoom apsc-c). But if i had the money i would add the 24-105 /f4 for video, lens stanilization and all around lens which would cover everything. The lens is a bit more heavier and bulky though. The picture seems very contrasted , precise and detailed. All the tamron i have are also fantastic with the a7c..anyway both lens are good 24-105 and 28-75 g2. Be careful with the 28-75 g2 as it is not waterproof to my opinion due to the usb-c open connector.

The biggest problem with the lens is that is not a 24-70mm. I find the first version not going to 24mm wide made me stop using the lens. I always had to bring a wider lens along also. When you carry a 24-70mm you can almost always get the shot. I wish they made a 24-70mm instead.
