Thanks Matthew! Love your videos and have been a Canon (70D) shooter for the past 5 years and have been considering the switch to the Sony (a7iii). The Tamron 28-75 being my first Sony FE lens versus a couple of primes covering those respective focal lengths for my run and gun style with events, and portrait sessions. This video and your comparison of it to the Sony GM equivalent was very helpful in my decision moving forward! I love the channel and wish you the best!

I have the Sony A7III + Tamron 28-75 2.8 for about a week now. For a zoom lens it's still really sharp and very versatile. imo, the prime lenses are definetly something on my list aswell for extra detail and locked focal ranges

Guraiya for sure the benefits of primes is undeniable in detail sharpness and lowlight capabilities! Regardless of the Tamron 28-75 being a great general lens, I have the Sony 85mm 1.8 and 35mm 1.8 on my wishlist

Thanks! When I started in photography, first for my school newspaper in the early 1990s, then college and the city newspaper... I was always interested in photojournalism, and for me, versatility was always really important, and using fast primes was more for getting decent shots in low light than it was about getting the sharpest optics. And I suppose that's still true today... I do have primes, but I really love being able to grab my 28-75 and 70-200 f/2.8s and be ready for just about anything... even if there might be some other lenses that could give me some advantages here and there, if I had them with me.

Thanks Matt! I shoot the same combo (minus the "R" ;). I too am a video novice. I'd love to know what settings you used if you don't mind. Look forward to the 35mm review (as I'm still on the hunt for one and maybe need to foot the extra dough on the new Sony 35 1.8).

Most of these video clips were shot with the same settings: 1080p at 120 fps, 1/250th sec at f/2.8 (camera on Manual) and ISO changed to suit the light. Autofocus was a large area, which I generally keep near the center, but not always.

Great video. I’m about to pull the trigger on this lens and camera combo so this video was perfect for me. Thanks. I wonder if you upgraded to the a7riv. I want that one but I can’t justify the extra $1000 premium

I haven't upgraded to the IV yet, and when it comes time for me to buy another body, it will be a hard decision between the III (if they're still available) and the IV, which has higher resolution than I generally need, so it seems like needless data storage. Nice camera, though.

@@MatthewGore the only thing I really want out of the IV is the better lock on tracking. But looks like you’re able to track really well on the riii. So might not be necessary

Thank you for the review it’s hard to perceive sharpness watching 1080p though

I have only one question.....Is Matthew Gore and Brad Hall the same person?

The mighty Sigma 135mm F1.8!!!!!! Would like to see the comparison. I own such a lens but for EF mount und use it with a cheap adapter on my Sony A7r ii. So the AF is a mess. Manual focus is not a problem and the Photo quality is perfect. So i am waiting for this review to come. Greetings from Dortmund Germany👍👋

I don’t know if I missed it in your video but how is manual focusing with the Tamron? Is it linear and useable for Video or is it depending on speed etc making focus pulls impossible? Edit: I own the Tamron 24-70 G2 with the Nikon Z6 and am thinking about testing the Techart FE Z Adapter and getting the lighter 28-75 which was built for mirrorless
@MatthewGore5 жыл бұрын
Ahh, no... you didn't miss it in the video. I've tried shooting video with manual focus with my Canon 5D III, and I'm terrible at it... I didn't bother trying with the Sony/Tamron. That's beyond my useful level of skill for video shooting. For that sort of info, you'll need to check with someone who is a real video shooter :-) Good luck! (but do keep in mind that the Tamron does not have an AF/M switch on the lens).
@JonathanAkosah3 жыл бұрын
The tamron depends on the speed from what I saw on gerald undone's test. Precisely why I got the sigma 24-70 for sony e mount with better manual focus control.

I'm working on more videos all the time :-) I am, in fact, American. My only video that was in Dutch was done for the assistance of a university instructor in the Netherlands, and she helped me with the voiceover and translation. I don't speak Dutch, and my German is pretty poor these days. Sorry!
