I think this mom is projecting her own controllingness onto the daughter-in-law. One of them is a steamroller, and it's clear which one. And in terms of thinking she gets to decide what kind of grandma she is -- no, parents decide how somebody interacts with their child. It will not work!! I have been there with a Mom exactly like her and worse! She ruined my life! Do you all hear that? RUINED my life!! Literally!! I did not allow her to cause us to be divorced which she would have loved! She picked one child our daughter and everything had to revolve around her! Actually she’s my step daughter and with me around she lost custody which she tricked my husband because she took the child from his wife while he was overseas training troops!! He came home and we took her ass to court! She actually told our lawyer who is a bad ass lawyer who always gets what he wants, that she would only sign the papers if she gets our daughter every weekend and he laughed at her and said this is not a divorce, you don’t deserve custody! My mother in law drove him crazy! He said it makes no difference to me. You can sign the paperwork voluntarily or I can walk in there and wipe the floor with you in front of a judge!! Then she used him for a bankruptcy case a few years later and I warned her he hates you! He walked in and sat down and watched while they screwed her to the wall! He didn’t speak on her behalf she might as well have had no lawyer which she didn’t! I warned her not o use him! My other kids told me after they were grown they felt left out a lot! She was evil! She was nice to my face and talked about me behind my back to everyone. She went to church and was complaining about me to a whole room of women because my step daughter who was a toddler did t have the right color of frilly baby undies! A woman, a elder of the church spoke up and said really? I’m glad I didn’t have someone like you as a mother in law and proceeded to tell the room she neglects to tell you all her daughter in law makes the beautiful dresses that kid wears to church! Everyone was always so impressed with the dresses I made and I spent most of my week making them. Why did I do that? Because my mother in law would buy my step daughter dresses from baby shops that cost hundreds of dollars and did nothing for my other daughter so my husband went out and bought me a very nice sewing machine so I guess I should thank her that I now make beautiful quilts because of her I found a talent I didn’t know I would be so good at. But again this won’t end well! I know first hand! Also I tweeted both Justine and her mother in law that this won’t end well and at sone point probably over their daughter they will either divorce or cut Mom out completely! Thankfully my husband who is his mothers only child although he loves her, she was mostly wanting control over his daughter. She wasn’t controlling over her only child. However before his daughter was born she did do some crazy stuff! She called pentagon to tell them he was her only child and didn’t want him sent overseas to do his job. He was a commander so they told her too bad she had no say in it. Anyway he knew what his mother was like and was not that attached to his mother. Anyway there are women like this out there and my mother in law was one! I love her now and miss her but here’s what it took….my husband her only child had a very severe aortic dissection! That thing that has killed most people. He was on life support six months and they never thought he would make it! Well he did make it and Jesus healed him and he did it in a way that had Johns Hopkins doctors saying we have no explainations! This should not be possible! They don’t want God to have to step in!
