Right around 1:21, you can see the anti-submarine belt is not installed properly, it wraps around from in front of the seat. There's at least a good foot of room to slide forward, probably more, before that belt is going to catch the kid. By then, the lap belt will be above his pelvis and will do more harm than good. Maybe ok given how upright the seat is, but definitely gives a false sense of safety. I like the idea, but definitely gotta make sure to follow all the manufacturer's instructions when installing (though that'd probably require cutting a hole in those nice seats).

@@ValFPV Not sure what pre-tensioners have anything to do with 5 point harness. Not a single 5 point harness has a pre-tensioner, and they are used all over the world. The other guy posted about the anti-submarine belt not being installed properly, and my reply that no normal car seat belts have anti-submarine straps and they all work fine. The 5 point harness belt is snug and needs no tensioner. Or do you think no seat belts (and there were none ever sold in 1966 Alfa Romeos of this vintage) is better? Or a simple static lap belt (no pre-tensioner), like they had in rear seats up to the year 2000? I think 2 shoulder belts, a lap belt, a chest strap connecting the shoulder straps is WAY better. Do you have a better idea? Maybe I should install some air bags?
@ValFPV3 жыл бұрын
@@patrickdowning7674 no, I don't. I was simply saying that normal shoulder belts don't need a submarine strap as much because of their pretensioners (at least in more modern cars) which can help prevent sliding under it in the event of a crash.

They aren't safe with out a hans. (head and neck device) Race harnesses dont have give. OEM seatbelts do, they are designed to work with airbags to slow your bodies deceleration. The harness will not have give in it if adjusted properly. So in an accident your body doesn't move, but your head will to keep moving. Violently! In an instance where there isn't a oem restraint its definently better than the nothing! Glad to see it was a 5 point harness, don't get me started on submarining. 😂

The 5 point harness is not designed to have locks. I guess you could run a chain around it and put a lock on it, but I would think it would be rather dangerous if there was an accident and you were hurt and the rescuers could not find the key. God forbid anything bad would ever happen, but locking kids into seats sounds like a less than good way to deal with a kid.

Kool video, and look like Jake like wearing the harness also , id look as adjusting the crotch belt tho , maybe coming up between the seat cushions so it lowers the room if Jake did slid under the lap belt of the harness ? So are other people able to wear the harness like older passenger? What are there views on wearing the full five point harness?
@globaldimension42924 жыл бұрын
Many seem to comment on the crotch strap. There are plenty of "4 point" harnesses in race cars, etc.. with no crotch strap. So having a loose crotch strap I see as pretty harmless. If the car had just a lap belt, it is basically the same thing. One could always slide under, but unlikely. It will fit any size passenger. But, I just put it on one side, as the car comes with no seat belts at all in the back, and does not even have bolt holes to put lap belts! There is no way, without welding and ripping up the headliner, to put a bolt in for a standard car seat/shoulder belt system. So, one can go in stages: 1) No belts at all, 2) Lap belt, 3) 4 point racing harness, or 4) 5 point racing harness. Or go to stage #5 and weld a nut into the C-pillar, destroy the fabric on the pillar, and use a modern shoulder/lap seat belt system. We are happy with #4. Plenty good enough for the driving we do.

"If the car had just a lap belt, it is basically the same thing. One could always slide under, but unlikely." This is why if I were wearing this, I would want the crotch strap, as well as the rest of the harness to be snug. When I'm belted down, I want to be sure I am belted down. :)

@Thickrickdrifting5 жыл бұрын
In the event of a roll over with a roof collapse and a harness with no cage the neck would get snapped since his body is constricted to the upright position with the harness. A traditional 3 point factory style harness allows your body to move out of the way in a collapse. Traditional childrens seats do have 5pt harnesses, but are attached with a lap or traditional 3 point to the actual seat which would allow the same movement of the seat assembly with child in it in the event of a collapse all the same as wearing a 3 pt. I would never strap any of my children in the way that has been done here in this video.

So let's remove all old cars from the road, as they all had low seats in 1960s and earlier cars!! They can all roll over and crush the heads of all passengers!! They have knobs on the dashboards that can take your eyes out!!! Maybe even the glass is not of modern standards! No side-impact pillars inside the doors, oh my! I suggest one looks at this entire video as someone with a classic car, and they want their kids to also enjoy the activity. The fat daddy is not out street racing with junior strapped in the back, so hopefully lowering the risk. @globaldimension42926 жыл бұрын
Jake loved his harness and he said it was comfortable. I have driven my Catrham 7 for over 20,000 miles with a 5 point harness and never really thought about it regarding comfort. You cannot put a shoulder seat belt in this Alfa, as there is no place for the shoulder bolt, unless you wanted to pull down the headliner on the pillar and drill a hole, and weld a nut for the mount. Not for me, thank you. Additionally, there is no place for the belt retractor. As far as price, this 5 point harness is US$75. I put new retractable in the front seats, as they had broken shoulder seat belts, the replacements cost US$150.

Love to hear why this is overkill! The car has no rear seat belts or any provision for any type of shoulder or lap belt (ie: welded in nuts for shoulder restraints, or even welded in nuts for lap belts).
