What an excellent review. Unlike other videos around here, the video is crystal clear, I can understand every single word you say, you're not waving the gun around constantly so we can get a good look at it and it doesn't sound like you're ad libbing dialog as we go along. What a refreshing change. The other folks that put out laughably poor quality reviews should take note. I can get one at dealer cost (

@Icarryone yeah, it's literally true in a sense. Unfortunately, here in California, even if we can get the mags we can't buy the gun. That is unless it comes up on the 2nd hand market where you can often pay 2-3x times retail price for off roster guns.

If you like 357 mag you'll love 10mm. It's not a fad. It's 357 in a modern auto. It's good. And it's best when you reload because like 357 a 10mm can be down loaded to 40 for range fun and training. My M20 runs stock without failures on light plinkers through a bear load I made. The only thing I don't like is losing brass. You never lose brass with a revolver. So if you like 357 you'll like 10mm.

$500 is just the pistol, buddy. Taking this to the range for years on a "steady diet" of 10mm ammo costs big bucks. Skip 10mm unless you live near bears. Even then, skip 10mm & go for .44 magnum.

Excellent 10 mm reviews, thank you. I was wondering about the recoil, since this gun is much lighter than the steel-framed models. Watching you fire it, it looks like there is a considerably more recoil and specifically - more muzzle flip than one might see in the steel-framed guns by Tanfoglio and other brands. I'm personally looking for a value-priced gun, so it narrows down to either Tanfoglio in polymer or steel, or the Rock Island single or double stack models (I'm leaning toward Rock double stack based on your reviews). Would you care to please comment on the felt recoil between the models I just listed? And specifically, how comparatively long it takes after firing to get the pistol back down and on target for a follow-up shot. I'm not recoil-sensitive, but want to get my follow-up shots off as quickly as possible.
@Icarryone7 жыл бұрын
It's been my experience that the lighter polymer framed 10mm's do have a bit more felt recoil - just simple physics. With full power ammo, this polymer framed Tanfoglio model does handle recoil better than any other polymer framed 10mm I've had experience with. It's strongest points are it's accuracy and dependability. Taking those points into consideration, one well placed shot from any 10mm will end almost any threat. For me, It's not about how fast can I get rounds off - it's all about how accurately I can place those rounds. Anything else just comes down to what handgun would I prefer to launch those rounds from.

Thank you for a very informative review sir. These pistols look so much like my very first firearm, an Alfa Combat that I bought about eleven years ago, and sold about six years ago. The trigger on that wasn't much to write home about, so for many years I avoided CZ clones altogether, and focused on S&W revolvers instead. had one in a .40 loved it. however I heard the frames on the 10 mm crack easy. Have you heard anything about that.
@Icarryone8 жыл бұрын
It isn't that the frames crack easily, it's people shooting full power 10mm rounds without installing the correct recoil spring. Allowing the slide to repeatedly smash into the slide stop on the frame is one of the fastest ways I know of ruining a 10mm - polymer or otherwise.
@texasbeast2394 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that the earlier roundtop Witness uppers were thinner, and they are the ones that cracked around the ejection port. But the newer style uppers with the slab sides and top are beefed up, so they don't crack. I still upgrade springs as I move up the power level, to prevent that slamming, bottoming-out effect.
@BezzleBedeviled8 жыл бұрын
Great vid, as always. Question: of your 10mm pistols, which would you say is the most accurate in follow-up/quick-shooting? (The polymer build brings this model into comfy carry territory as opposed to boat-anchor steel range guns, but I'm assuming less weight means snappier -- although the CZ's ergonomics apparently mitigate much of that.) I wonder if there's a ported-barrel option that isn't hideously expensive, or if RIA's awesome fiber optic night-sights would fit on it....
@Icarryone8 жыл бұрын
Fast or quick follow up shots and full power 10mm rounds seldom appear in the same sentence. That, of course, would depend on your definition of quick. What you saw in the video is about as fast as I can get accurately placed 10mm rounds headed downrange with any of them - but that's me. As far as I know Glock is the only manufacturer offering factory porting - the 20C. Lone wolf also makes ported barrels for the Glocks. Other than that, your option would be to have your 10mm custom ported - very expensive. Unlike Tanfoglio's elite series pistols, the slides for these polymer models do not come with a removable front sight. Their way of keeping the price down on these models, I suspect. No fiber optic sight option for these models. I hope I've managed to answer your questions to some degree.
@r1pbuck8 жыл бұрын
Nice video...thank you! I have an all-steel Witness in 10mm and it's a great shooter, but also a bit of a boat anchor. I have an 18# Wolff recoil spring and a Henning recoil spring guide in mine. Perhaps I should have gone with a polymer frame instead...

I'm trapped between no love for the Glock 20 Gen4 (just not a fan of the trigger) because of its reputation for reliability (due to simplicity) and reversible mag catch, and the Witness Polymer which looks far more attractive but the Interwebs are filled with reliability gripes. I feel like I'm in a similar boat. All I own right now are glocks, and while I love them it does get a bit samey. If I'm going to chamber a the hardest semi-auto cartridge in the land I'd feel cheap putting it in the Honda Civic of guns. I think the ergonomics of the EAA fit a heavy hitting cartridge like the 10MM the same way a V8 would fit a Cadillac. Not to say the quality is better but the handling is just not there with a glock vs. a CZ clone.

Seriously, you actually listen to what the self styled internet gun gurus on the forums have to say? You discover that most of them have absolutely zero hands on experience with the firearms they love to discuss. Nevertheless, a number of years ago there were a few slide, not frame failures.This prompted Tanfoglio to redesign the slide - no further issues were ever noted. Perhaps the gurus on the forums need to do a bit of catching up. I can assure you that this polymer framed Tanfoglio is a good investment.

I personally like the 10mm ammunition offered by Underwood. Their ammo is indeed full power.

I was wondering what he meant by "trapped behind enemy lines" (I would think you'd want as much as you could carry), then I figured it out! LOL! Good one!

What are the pros and cons between this Tanfoglio and the Glock 20SF?
@Icarryone7 жыл бұрын
That would depend more on your preferences than mine.
@primaryairsoft23157 жыл бұрын
None of my local gun shops have the Tanfoglio in stock to test. I'm wondering which one you would say handles recoil better.
@Icarryone7 жыл бұрын
For me, the ergonomics and design of the Tanfoglio seems to handle recoil better than my Glock 20 - just my opinion.

Honeslty the eaa is going to fit your hand better if you have small to medium hands. The over accuracy will most likely be better as well with the interior slide design. In my opinion the cz75 is the best 9mm on the market concerning the grips and feel. But that's just me. So if the grip is anything close to the cz75 its going to feel much better than the beefy glock. Now I will say however that I purchased a g40 mos 10mm last month and had the grips shaved down and revamped to basically match or get as close as they could to the size and dimensions of my cz75. Turned out great!! Maybe a tad bit thicker but not by much. Then I had the beaver tail worked on sot hat it stuck out more (again trying yo match the feel of my cz75) turned out ok not much difference. Overall I think its a huge improvement and pretty close to my cz . So its up to you. Aftermarket parts for glock is extensive as well so you may take that into consideration. Just for shits and giggles I had my mos ported in a v10 design, purchased a match grade threaded barrel and compensator. Had bith barrels TiN coated. It looks a tad awkward with the threaded barrel and compensator when you see the slide ported but no barrel porting lol. But looks absolutely beastly when the ported barrel is in there all gold and shit.

I'd think the Glock 40 handles the best with recoil, 6 inch barrel and all

Where can you find the conversation slides for the polymer and steel models beside the eaa website.
@Icarryone6 жыл бұрын
Unless you can find someone willing to part with one, they are pretty much the only other source.

Does this model have a removable front sight? It's hard to tell in the video. Thanks in advance! Tom
@Icarryone6 жыл бұрын
On this model, the front sight is milled into the slide and is not removable.

I purchased this 10mm polymer based on your review. Will fire it in a couple of days. Where did you purchase the 45 barrel, slide and magazines? Is that 20 pound spring the same one that fits the Glock.
@Icarryone6 жыл бұрын
You can purchase the conversion slide and magazines directly from EAA's website. I purchased the heavier recoil spring from Wolff Gun Springs: www.gunsprings.com/

I've read about cracked slides/frames in some of the EAA Tanfoglio pistols chambered in 10mm. Has this issue been resolved?
@Icarryone6 жыл бұрын
Some time ago, Tanfoglio redesigned their slides and this is no longer a problem.

Hmm, I've been wanting to add a 10mm and is a fan of DA/SA, especially CZ, yet random online negativity had put me off the EAA Witness. Guess I may have to give them another look myself, though, the longer barrel Glock 40 also has my attention and I wouldn't mind giving the cartridge as much of a velocity boost as possible along with the longer sight radius. Then again, I also like the SR1911 in .45 and it's now in 10mm, so there's that too, lol

I just checked my usual sources and they don't seem to have any in stock either. A very similar 10mm is EAA's Pro Match.

Sir, and To Whom It May Concern: I am looking into the feasibility of having (1) of these full size 10 mm for wilderness carry. Is there any difference in recoil between the Steel frame vs the Polymer frame. If you were limited to buying one, either a Steel framed or Polymer framed version which would you purchase? I am looking for a durable wilderness protection 10 mm handgun that will be able to take sustainable full hard-hitting loades carrying such. Thank You for your answer.
@Icarryone8 жыл бұрын
Polymer framed pistols have a tendency to be a little lighter than steel framed models. Lighter usually means more felt recoil in almost any caliber. When it comes to the 10mm round, this polymer framed Tanfoglio's design sucks up recoil exceptionally well - but since you stipulated that a choice had to be made and only one 10mm chosen - I would stick with my Dan Wesson Razorback.
@MrHrKaidoOjamaaVKJV8 жыл бұрын
Ironically I found that the Glock 17 has lesser recoil then many steel frame pistols. Based on that experience I lean towards the polymer frame, as well as Firepower and pricing. I carried a 1911 for many years as an Army MP. It is a good design. The CZ design has more firepower and a better price. I am on a budget and want firepower.I might as well but go with a Ruger Redhawk as with a 8 round Dan Wesson. I will be checking out the polymer frame Witness 10mm and if I go with it change the recoil spring to a 20 pound spring as you suggested. Thank You for your abswer.You have excellent videos. Keep up the good work

Just to follow up: it sounds like you've fed this a pretty steady diet of real 10mm loads (not "FBI" loads or factory neuters). The pistol is holding up just fine? No signs of excessive wear, etc.?
@Icarryone8 жыл бұрын
Absolutely none. Their newer slide design has pretty much cleared up any issues the older models had. I don't shoot any watered down 10mm rounds unless I'm reclaiming brass to load real 10mm rounds.

1:39 Yeah, I have a G40 long slide and G21 .45ACP upper to swap into my G20 EDCC gun, and I love the flexibility. I was curious about doing the same with these Tanfoglios, since the company brags about its easy caliber swaps. I wanted to slap a 6 inch Xtreme upper on a Match Elite lower. But looking through their website parts catalog was confusing, since it had 4.5, 4.75, and 6 inch barrels/uppers, and it was inconsistent as to which one they considered their "long slide". (It's the 4.75 inch steel models, BTW.) They cleared it up for me, and emphasized that you can't swap different lengths between different frames. If you want to swap calibers, you must maintain the original barrel length for that model. Darn.

Yes, that's the way it works with Tanfoglio handguns.

I recently bought one of these and after one session at the range I came back home to clean it. One of the ears the slide rides on had broken off. I don't understand why they would use plastic instead of steel inserts on a 10mm. Needless to say, this will be my last one of these.
@Icarryone8 жыл бұрын
I've had no issues with this one whatsoever. ( 1000+ rounds so far. )
