Why both tpe class 68 pulling a network rail cargo train?

Hi, the TPE Class 68s were being operated by DRS since TPE have now retired them from their fleet. The Class 68s are top and tailed (one at each end) so that they can easily change direction and go back the way they came instead of having to run the loco around to the other end of the train, it is also not a cargo train it is a train used to clean the tracks of leaf debris to avoid other trains slipping on the mulch from the leaves (This type of train is called a Rail Head Treatment Train: RHTT), thank you for the comment! 👍

Randomly - if you look at the satelite image of the single track on Google Maps, theres a steam train on it (not the same one I think?)

Interesting! Looking at it now, it is sat in Upperby and you can see the water tanker next to it refilling it I assume for its return journey! My guess is British India Line as the steam loco, I sadly can’t get the exact date off google maps only that it was taken in 2023!

What happened to the original midland pullman(s)?(or was there only one). Were they all scrapped? I've got a picture of one visiting Bury Bolton street, now home of the east lancs rly.

What have they done to the TPE 68’s they are filthy !!!

The TPE 68s have been doing RHTT duties, (These trains are used to clean leaves off the line) the reason they are so dirty is mainly because they spray water at high speed on line to remove the leaves but a side effect of that is that the locos get absolutely coated in dirt!!! Why do steam trains always have a diesel on the back

They have it sometimes to provide power to the coaches I think but also to assist the steam loco if it is struggling or if it breaks down, they are also useful for shunting at the destination which you get an idea of in this video! However they don’t always have a diesel on the back for example about a month ago British India Line didn’t have a diesel on the back down the cumbria coast line but it then got stuck and had to be rescued!!
