Miner should pick up cobblestone to make stone tools and repair the tunnels. Wood tools suck and constantly have to be replaced, and this way you can have more profit off the lumberjack. If you're worried about overloading them with cobble, maybe make a max of like 16 that each miner will collect each day? RESOURCE MANAGER!!! Make a villager who specializes in resource management. Makes rail tracks, send minecarts full or supplies, and creates storage systems to store and transport whatever they are given to wherever storage is. They'd use Donkeys with chests at first, until they can build an automated rails and carts system to transport supplies long distances. The villagers work to gain resources for the merchant to sell and buy. The storage/resource manager will need a storage building, and the merchant will put his permanent shop in town in the front of the storage building! The miners, farmers, blacksmiths, guards, lumberjacks, etcetera will all gather resources, and place them in the main storage... or hand them to the resource manager if he is close enough, OR place them in the nearest "donkey transport pickup station" storage box (if they are still on donkey transportation), or in the nearest "automated storage system receptacle" chest or hopper, and the donkey and resource specialist will come along now and again to transport the goods to the main storage, or if it is automated, the automated receptacles will auto-transport the goods to the resource manager who will ORGANIZE them into an automated chest system, and the merchant will sell goods to and from the town and to the player from those goods, as well as get goods from outside the town as well! If you have a villager wizard/enchanter/cleric (whatever you call it... magic caster villager of some sort, your choice of course. :-P ) you could EVEN have the enchanter be able to take a chest, and enchant it into an Enderchest! Once he/she enchants 2 Enderchests, he/she will place the first one in the Resource Manager's Storage Emporium, and the other will go whereever the Storage Specialist tells the Enchanter to put it! :-) This way the villagers; like the Miner for example; can dump supplies into the Enderchest, a minecart system, or donkey pickup box and the village can move supplies huge distances whenever they want! :-D

One thing to keep in mind regarding the cost of adding villagers: the base cost of adding a villager by adding a house. You've already got it set to something like 5 emeralds per person based solely on the need for a place to sleep. I'm almost tempted to say that the cost of villager tokens should be pretty trivial for the rank-and-file grunt roles like miner, farmer and lumberjack. As you get more specialist professions - blacksmiths, teachers, and especially guys like druids, that's where the cost should be for individual villagers. Guards should probably also be more expensive, so they're not seen as being expendable, since they're the ones with a decent chance of death. That's my view, anyway. All depends on how expensive you want everything to be, of course.

I think the first of a profession should be at a discount, since they are how you will get more emeralds. _Every_ villager after that should be a challenge. You think you need two farmers? Prove that your one miner and one lumberjack and one farmer can work together well enough to afford your second farmer.
@rashkavar5 жыл бұрын
@@3Ppaatt Maybe there should be a hardcore mode where costs are ramped up for people who want a hardcore grind, and a regular/easy mode where costs are more friendly for people wanting to screw around and have fun. Or just make it something that's adjustable in config files so that people can adjust it accordingly. What you describe sounds like a punishment for growing the village, which, to, me, is boring and grindy. Which does not invalidate the fact that you think it sounds fun; thus my suggestion of differing cost formats.

What about the 2x2 sized trees? Larger spruce trees or Dark Oak. Edit: I feel like it would cost less logs to trade for about the same amount of emeralds it has for trading a stack of oak because they'd be breaking their tool a whole lot faster then breaking normal trees and for the larger spruce trees it should take a lot more time cutting it down even at a higher skill level because of the size of the tree. This would rake in more spruce for the village and would be productive. Still keeping the stack for the amount of emeralds in the trade so people can't scam the merchant.

Idea to balance the cost of professions: Make them cost more or less depending on how many villagers are already in the village. Either a hard wall after 3 villagers with more walls later on, or a gradual scale. Can you make a token to designate an input chest for sorted storage systems? That would make the storage building more efficient. You could even have a system that makes the villagers remember where to look for certain items. E.g. when a villager finds what they need they create a tag that says "food is in [specific chest]" The memory tag would work even without an item sorter because if they fail to find the item in the specific chest they remembered they can continue to search randomly and create a new tag when they do find it.

To properly balance the economy you need to make the price of tokens go up the more villager you have. You were barely able to afford anything when you started but after a few days the resources start to becompe plentiful. Basically your resources grow faster the more villagers you get and you need to balance it by making new villagers more and more expensive.

I thought this too, but that kind of presumes you want to keep it at the village level (which probably makes sense for Minecraft). But in the real world, adding more people to a community doesn't have an increasing cost, and that's why cities are a thing. And this is Tango "Iron Golem Farmer" Tek, after all, I bet he's already considering how to turn this system up to 11 and see what exploits happen!

I have an idea for the miner, since he doesn't pick up stone (and you basically skip stone tools I guess?) Let the miner pick up stone, if he uses a wooden pickaxe. In theory, he should bring a bunch of cobble to the storage room in the evening, which will allow some villagers (including the miner) to craft themselves some stone tools. Once he has a stone pickaxe, he will no longer pick up stone and no chests will get clogged up with cobble.

I actually have multiple questions: 1.) How do miners keep them self save down in the mines. Lets say they dig into a cave and there are 3 zombies there, i would expect them to run away, but they dont call the guards or anything like that. So how does that work? 2.) Do tool qualities (wood, stonen, iron, etc) have an impact on what miners can mine? 3.) Why shouldn´t miners take stones? It would be a resource the village can use for better tools befor getting a blacksmith, for the player for building or even for selling. If the problem is filling up the miner inventory to fast maybe make it so that the collect a max of 3 stacks and then vansih the rest. 4.) Will this mod work in multiplayer?

Enjoying the series! Some feedback: When your village gets bigger it can be harder to find certain villagers (the merchant comes to mind), so I think it would be cool to add a system where you can ask any villager if they've seen a certain villager and if they have seen them that day, they can point in their direction. This would add more importance to the cook profession as they are needed to keep the diets diverse.

I like this idea of some adventurer type villager. How would you suggest they would work? Here's an idea from me, but I'd love to see what your vision for that would have been! You'd either send him away manually (by buying a "field trip" token and placing it in a storage chest/giving it to the villager), or have a set of items they require to start an adventure/scavenger hunt (a selection from these suggestions maybe: a full set of leather or better armor, a sword, a bow, a map, a compass, a boat, torches, food etc.) Once they go on a trip, they'll disappear like the hermits, but in the morning. When they are away, they have a chance to, depending on their level and equipment quality: - return home - die/disappear - find loot from any (overworld chest) loot table (- get drops from hostile mobs) or just be away for another day without anything happening. Each day could also cost them an amount of food/torches/durabilities and they'd return to the village not by RNG, but when one of those is depleted. Is that in any way what you had in mind?

Profession Ideas: Diver The Diver is a specialized villager who dives into a nearby ocean and looks for treasures. At the end of every day, he comes back with a bunch of goodies. Note: This requires an ocean to be within fifty or a hundred blocks or so. Fisherman Uses a fishing rod and fishes in a nearby river or lake. Generates fish, which is a food supply for the village. Also has a tiny chance to fish other objects like leather boots or enchanted books. Alchemist Lives in a mysterious hut and brews potions. Collects water with water bottles from nearby rivers or lakes and other ingredients from the farmers or chefs (But they don't have to use nether wart for awkward potions - I don't think farmers farm those) Archer A guard who uses a bow and an arrow to shoot enemies from range. Can occupy a tall tower, a sort of lookout post, from where he can fire at enemies with his vantage point. The houses-beds system seems a little off to me. When you join the game, villagers will pick a random bed to be theirs, this happens everytime you join (at least I think that’s how it is). This means that villagers/families can’t own a house. This makes the game less fun to play, because everytime you join, you come to a “new” village. That’s why I think you should have the ability to link a villager to a bed. I hope you’ll add this! :)

@@connorlewis2517 Related to this, it might also be interesting to have villages swap beds. I think Banished did it this way. Of course, that requires serializing the bed allocations, rather than regenerating them on each world load, but that seems pretty straightforward.

I've only just stumbled onto your channel and have binge-watched all of your "What If" Villagers videos. You are amazing. I honestly can't imagine the dedication you have for this project. If/when you release this mod, I would be willing to pay for it. Some ideas/suggestions/questions: Children - In addition to skipping, kids could explore buildings and talk to adult villagers (which can distract the villagers from their work, making them less efficient, but more happy) - this talking could raise the kid's education/intelligence level. Pets - Animals like dogs, cats and horses could increase villager happiness levels. The animals would need to be fed, and perhaps a child's chore could be to feed the pet animals (or maybe feeding the pet animals befalls the nearest villager when the animal is hungry, so the villager is distracted from its work, but its happiness increases). Dogs and cats would need raw meat products to be stored too for food. Farmers - Develop an affinity for a certain crop. So "Jerryblue Hufflepail" has an affinity for carrots and it makes him happier to farm and even eat carrots. Working with other crops increases his affinity for those other crops, but he has a preference. This would be neat to see, as you'd have the different farmers tending to their own crops, instead of random farmers all over the place. Lumberjack - Have a way of prioritising which type of wood you want more of, so the lumberjacks know which ones to plant. What do they do with the apples, store them for food? Perhaps trees should take longer to grow, based on how your own economy was speeding up. Miners - Miners should collect cobblestone and other stones (granite etc) too, and bring it back to the storeroom for the player to use in their builds and for the other villagers to use (like farmers being able to make stone tools), also keep some in their inventory to use for repairing (instead of pulling blocks from the air). When miners encounter large cave systems (like abandoned mines or caverns), instead of blocking/repairing with cobblestone, fences could be used to partition off the dangerous section, allowing the player to explore the area (they'd need to be notified somehow). Also, mining should obey the mining "rules", so miners should have to trade their tools up in order to mine upper tier ores. Socialising - This is a pet peeve of mine, but why does "having a good time"/happiness = alcohol? I know that it's a sort of fantasy setting and taverns/pubs sell beer. As an Australian, we've got a serious drinking culture and sometimes it's just sad to see young people desperate to fit in/think that drinking is how socialising is done. Sorry for sounding preachy, but maybe in addition to the pints, there could be different drink models, like buckets of milk (that ranchers could collect) or a refreshing glass of watermelon juice - or once cocoa/coffee is added, they could be enjoying a mug of mocha. Skins - It would be neat to see slightly varying skins: keep the same template for the outfit/design per villager model, but change the colour palette just a little for differentiation of each person in a randomised manner. For example, a villager could have black skin, green eyes and blonde hair, but wear the lumberjack outfit. I think that would add some variety to the overall look and also be more inclusive/diverse/representative of the Minecraft playerbase. In that sense I wouldn't limit traditional "gender" colours either, so the female farmer doesn't need to wear a purple/pink undershirt and the male farmer doesn't need to exclusively wear the blue, that could be randomised too. Fishermen - I really think this is a class of villager that would be super neat to include. Fish is another item to trade to the Merchant, another food item, and necessary for pet cats. Fishermen could also possibly attempt to catch squid too. And just like normal fishing, they could also have a chance to "catch" random objects, which would be really cool. Fishing rods would be another item that uses up wood for crafting and eventually able to be enchanted by the cleric/druid/mage. "Death" - If there's a children stage, maybe it makes sense for an elderly stage/passing of old villagers? They could enjoy retirement for a couple of in-game days or weeks before leaving the realm. When they die, their experience isn't lost, perhaps it's passed onto the cleric/druid/mage or whatever so the player doesn't feel like they've invested in a unit's growth to have it just "disappear". Or maybe as they're retired they can take on an apprentice to share some of their education, or be an "elder", walking around and generally improving everyone's happiness with their presence. Well, that's all my ideas for now. You're doing amazing work! jhoi

Quick question, if a player puts an enchanted pickaxe in a chest for a miner will the enchantments function as normal? I am especially curious in regards to the mending enchantment.

Starseeker I believe that he said that was the case in the video where he introduced the librarian/enchanter.

Tango, a villager should put stuff in random chests unless you put an item in a frame on a chest, that way they can have organized storage!
@thannbanis36395 жыл бұрын
And once secondary industry villages (ones who make stuff the primary industry villages gather)like the Butcher, have them deliver raw goods directly to those buildings

This is impossible as AI doesn’t recognize normal item frames only his custom one

I don’t know how many times I’ve caught myself on a breakpoint I forgot about. ;) I had a thought about crafting. What if villagers gained a ‘crafting’ skill when they made tool instead of gaining experience in their current profession? That way if you were to change a villager to another profession sometime they could keep their crafting skill when making tools for their new profession. Or maybe they just gain blacksmith skill. Or woodworking. I like it how it is now where they gain skill in their profession, I just thought I’d throw that out there. Keep up the awesome stuff Tango. I’m super excited!

Give the Miner happiness for finding valuables; that would be more human.

Glad to have you back in this project Tango! But honestly it's good this is not your only priority... Can't have you git sick of this :P This Mod REEEEEEALY is looking amazing!!!! I think the Chef would be a good option, just so your villagers can have some better food to eat, and boost they're happiness. And when you do bring in the rancher, the chef will already be there to cook the meat.

Can the miners break obsidian or even bedrock with wooden pickaxe? Also I guess diamonds don't need to be broken with iron pickaxes
@austingray-mandala2315 жыл бұрын
How can a miner with a wooden pickaxe mine diamonds? I love your video but the mechanics should still remain whether it's a player or a villager correct? Also if the miner doesn't collect stone how does he have cobble to repair the tunnel. I can't wait to play your mod and your a genius for all the work you have done. Thank you in advance
@lexie62385 жыл бұрын
Austin Gray-Mandala both of these, and also the random chance to get ore should be limited. Getting diamonds as often as iron is broken
@Sgrunterundt5 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Make miners faster if you think they are too slow, but don't make them make diamonds out of thin air. It is best if they are as like players as possible.

Three Ideas: Addition to the Nomad Profession thing, said in the last video, I think you should add a few education levels too, and random happiness levels! Also, you could add a Sanity Level, where the more they work, the more isolated they are from other villagers, like a miner is, and the darker areas they work in, like a miner or a guard, the more they lose sanity. Another way they could lose Sanity, is, say, for example, a guard could lose Sanity and happiness if they accidently don't defend the village enough and another villager gets hurt. Another example is if farmers don't produce enough food, and a lot of villagers lose a lot of hunger. Less Sanity would decrease the amount of happiness they gain, education boosts, lose hunger faster, and even in serious cases, cause them to go on strike for a few minecraft days or kill the villager. A lot of Sanity could increase the amount of happiness gained, like how education increases the amount of skill points gained. Interacting with other villagers, sleeping, and being at parties could increase Sanity levels. Another idea would be to add stationary guards, protecting specific villagers. You could add an item where you right click on a guard, and on another villager, and the guard's priority would be to protect that specific villager. This would help a lot with miners, because even at daytime, their workplace is still dark and dangerous if they run into mobs before they can repair the tunnel. A guard could be there to help the miners and druids.

You should make a tutorial book, and when you get a new building or job it tells you what to do with it. For example the storage room you place chests and crafting tables, etc etc. Kinda like other mods that have books that you spawn with

No, I think it's better, if you explore everything on your own.

Scavenger (taken from the comments of this video): Scavenger goods would be Villager Items (ofc). They would be random goods, maybe spider eyes, bones, sticks, diamonds, etc. The goods would be used by other villagers and would have a connection with the merchant. Merchant Quests (also taken from the comments): Merchant Quests would be a quest to get a certain item. It MUST be a hard to get, uncraftable by the villagers item. Also, it must be a villager item. Only scavengers can complete the quests and when the quest is completed, the merchant will drop off emeralds based on how long it took to finish the quest and the item that was wanted. EDIT: I forgot to add this for the Merchant. Scavengers will ask other villagers for items to help with a quest. Just thought of this for the Scavenger. The Scavenger will have a special building called the Quest Hall. Scavengers that are not searching will hangout in the Quest Hal and a merchant with a quest will be in the Quest Hal. If a Scavenger interacts with the Merchant, that Scavenger is assigned the quest and only he can do it. EDIT 2: Add to this with your ideas!

Watching you interact with the merchant at 4:10 ish made an idea pop into my head. Perhaps if they accepted one random non-villager item per in game [day/week/month] for a villager emerald or 2 to help give a boost to the initial economy. This could all be set in a config file as well - what "normal" items they would/would not accept, how often, and for how much. Just a thought. Still looking really cool and I can't wait to play it.

What about an independent crafting skill that determines the time it takes a villager to craft an item but isn't related to the profession? That would reduce the impact of changing a villager's profession a bit.
