Stephanie Mills said it years ago, “They want our music (R&B), but they don’t want it from us (black artists). Adele, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, (even Bruno Mars) etc. sales surpass all black R&B artists put together. Dare I say black people don’t purchase music anymore too.

Tank made some fantastic points. We need to set a criteria for what is classified as ‘R&B’ and be firm in our definition. Furthermore subcategories must be defined. Also, artists should keep pushing the envelope by collaborating and keeping the genre fresh. Overall, I think ‘R&B’ artists need to get more creative.

House music is popping outside of Chicago, aka it's birth place. And that's just because a lot of people, outside of Chicago, just recently recognized it. And when I say recently, I mean in the 2000s, cause it's existed in Chicago heavy way before then. They jumped in late. That's all. Also, house music seems to mainly be popular among gay crowds and cultures not from the US, that rarely heard it. BTW, The R&B most refer to is the kind that u heard 20+ years ago, and it rarely exist, in mainstream. The music that dominates is the music that sells the most, or, the music that has payola. That's it.

Yes Tank! Finally a good take! Stevie is the best musician of all time. He influenced MJ and Thriller. Then its MJ and Beyonce next when we talking over all Pop and R&B artists. Prince is top 5. But he was his own legend.

Prince was the closest to Stevie Wonder when it comes to musicianship. He was just as prolific as Stevie in terms of numbers of songs and albums during his lifetime. He was a one hand made man. He wrote, composed, produced , arranged the vast majority of his own catalog just like Stevie and he was a musical prodigy who could play over 25 different instruments just like Stevie. To me when it comes to actual musicians it's Stevland "Stevie" Hardaway Judkins from Saginaw, Michigan and Prince Rodgers Nelson from Minneapolis, Minnesota

@@chrisman3431 facts I got Stevie 1A and Prince 1B.. Prince would do a whole album by himself lyrics, producing, back ground singing and all 😂

I just love Tank’s personality, interviews, and his music! I wish him all of the success in his endeavors! We love you Tank. ❤️‼️ Edit: Yeah, there is a disconnect in R&B and I don’t like it!!! I miss boy bands, I miss real R&B music, and I miss men singing lovely music to women!!! We need love songs and boy bands back!!!! The lil R&B that we got, they try to be rappers smh 🤦🏾‍♀️ we need PURE R&B!!!!

This was such a great conversation. I feel like there is a war on Love and there are so many platforms that push the wrong narratives for a reason. It will be hard for any R&B artist to break through the noise but they shouldn't have to do what rappers do to see success. It's a completely different genre
