My family was stationed at the air station in the early 80's... no windmills then. ( except one home built one. ) They were still holding the Buskin river raft race. I worked part time at KMXT, the weekend folk music show.... Nice seeing the mountains again...

This is the unglamorous side of fishing - the hard yakka, the nitty-gritty of cleaning, storing and maintaining equipment. You chaps are working in temperatures that even a brass monkey would pass on! 🙂 Col, NZ

Thanks, Colin. There is certainly a lot that happens aside from the fishing part. We are happy to be able to share the many aspects of commercial fishing, aside from the paperwork shuffle perhaps, lol!

You guys are great! You get along so well and maintain your boat very well!! Nice clean and neat decks. This looks much better than the “Deadliest Catch” style of crabbing. It’s a nice pace, still makes for long days I’m sure, but the pace just seems much safer, less rushed and you had a great routine going! I’m new to the channel, so have been binge watching. I am from Southern Alberta, Canada so am completely landlocked!! 😂😂. I have spent time on the ocean. Did a very successful fishing trip on the west coast of Vancouver Island this summer from Kyuquot (K eye you cut - all rolled together) and it was amazing!! The day we were trolling for ling cod,,,, wow!! What a workout and for some reason they liked the way I was fishing, much better than the other guys so it was a serious workout!! Our biggest was just over 30 lbs so they weren’t as large as some guys were getting!! We still did well and I slept well that night!! (I spent a fair bit of time green in the face leaning over the rail as well!! 😂😂. Ugghhhh! 😂😂😂) I’m a land lubber!! I think you live in an amazing part of the world and are very fortunate! That boat itself is very versatile for the varied ways you fish to keep going year round. Nice stuff!! Now it’s not all positive,,,,,,, a Dodge??? You drive a Dodge??? 😂 😂😂😅😅. It’s a Cummins though,,,, all is forgiven,,,,. Please stay safe out there, Eh! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experiences with us.

Seems like someone should invent an apparatus to pull the pots up a stack at a time instead of one by one.
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 2 жыл бұрын
The processing plants will hoist a stack all at once, but our single can really handle it, as you need to get them swung over the dock. One at a time goes quickly and we just hand stack them in our truck. Saves hiring a boom truck to transport them home.

Crab in our town in Connecticut sells for $50 a pound which would be $200,000 for your 4000 lb across the counter here

Crab is very expensive now and we had the highest ex-vessel prices posted in the history of the Kodiak Tanner fishery. Bear in mind if the crab is sold as cooked sections, the yield is about 60%, so based on that value would be around $120,000. Still a lot of cabbage!

A lot of people used to complain in the comments about that. Matt and Len have explained it that they're not putting their full weight on individual crabs. The weight gets spread out just by the sheer mass of crab/fish in the hold. So as long as you're not jumping up and down it's fine.

@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 2 жыл бұрын
You bet we do. The plant doesn't allow cameras or filming up on the dock, so just got a little clip from up top. The aluminum bucket has a scale attached and weights are recorded by the plant and us.

Like #689...doing great fam... ....IS MOM PILOTING??? Lol that guy is literally standing on the crab... Wth? 🍻🇨🇦🍻 Ummm question! What would them guys be getting paid? I calculated if they got $.25 /crab, that equally $750, on 5000 crab. $0.07/crab? WHOOP THERE IT IS!..nice tight clamp $900 for fuel? Minus the award lol Silly question...would that sand contain gold? Seriously there's gold at the ocean bottom, in places. I prospect gold

I know in 2022 Tanner Crab prices were very good ! More realistic than what they want to pay you in 2023! That is rediculous! With this bitter crab disease you can't really release infected crabs and if you put them in a communal holding tank well that's no better! But this will cause a shortage and they want to rip you off by going to Russia for more Crab??!! No! They pay local producers a fair price for all of the clean crab, then top up with Russia or China, who you are technically at war with. It may not be my business but us Coasters have to stick together, Canadian or American we are the same people.
