My aging, nearly blind Mom arrived yesterday, and is going to be staying with me on a sudden, emergency basis. She needs help to do this type this dialysis, and I was stressed beyond belief last night, trying to figure out how to do this for her. With this instruction, I was able to successfully do her dialysis today. Thank you SO MUCH for this video!

It's a big responsibility but it's still 100 times better than hemo at a center. At home, you are in charge of your own care. It tends to make you aware of other things you can do to lengthen your lifespan, such as diet and exercise. With even the best techs, at the centers you basically deteriorate waiting on a transplant because you feel so exhausted all the time. As much as she wanted to get out of the clinic, my sister went through a few last-minute panic attacks before beginning her PD. 🙄🙄 It IS a big step. Your terror proves you know it's a major change for you. My sis is much happier now. We wish you the best.

I'm near the end of training sessions to assist my partner. I've gone through the entire process about 4 times using a dummy. It felt overwhelming at the beginning, but I've become more comfortable with each practice session. The training team has provided a laminated step by step instruction set and carefully watches everything I do and is always encouraging.

Not exactly the way I do it, but close, it was fun to see how other regions do it. There is a lot of emphasis on cleaning my wound site, even though it was placed 10 months ago. Also, I am trained to clean my machine with bleach/water solution. And I do not have a connector between the line from the machine and my catheter. And thank goodness I wear gloves that I change a couple of times during set up.

Interesting video, I like the way you load the cassette, but my PD nursing colleagues and I are shocked by your double handling technique when connecting the bags. The point of the blue organiser is so you can safely remove the cap from the line and leave it while you remove the cap from the bag, and THEN bring the two together. How do you expect to routinely and safely prevent touch contamination with double handling??
@04Ammy042 жыл бұрын
Do you mean you remove the caps from the lines while they are connected to the organizer? Then remove the caps from the bag and bring that line to the lines on the organizer? So you don't have to grab both lines while they connect ? You connect the bag lines while the other lines are still on the organizer?

@walkingintruthknowledge74186 ай бұрын
Well I’m sure you know now. But usually you start on manual dialysis then graduate to the machine as you have basic knowledge of how to do an exchange. The only time you use a machine straight away is when it’s such an emergent condition you can’t use manual

Try using a heating pad on your stomach for one. Two turn down the connector to slow the flow. Three contact your nurse and she can program the machine to not empty you all the way until the final drain. At that point you have to power thru it ! If pain persist tell your nurse and doctor who may refer you back to your surgeon

My machine has started doing this recenlty, I don't understand it either because it always takes me around 20 mins to complete setup so the bag should always be at the same temp, i wonder if the heater is failing
@roselisembee2333 Жыл бұрын
It just means the bag has not warmed up enough yet. Probably stored in cool area. It will warm and then proceed. Unless you suspect heater issues, there is nothing to worry about. (I get this once in a while doing dialysis for my mom when we have a defective bag and get a new one from the cool storage room at the last minute.)

The air has to be still when the line is open during opening and capping of catheter. If you get anything in your line, in your system, you can get peritonitis. Your hands have to be clean. You have to wear a face mask. You cannot accidentally touch the end of an open catheter. It's very important that the air is not stirred when catheter is open.
