The ideas behind this speech are largely taken from the Prussian military philosopher Carl Von Clausewitz, which I think is a nice touch because it fits the setting. According to Von Clausewitz, policy makers frequently start wars with seemingly rational objectives only to find that they have completely lost control over the scope, nature, and objectives of the conflicts. The problem is that war means many different things to different people and its horrors stir up incredibly violent emotions that are often difficult to anticipate or control. This could mean intervention by neighboring countries or more staunch resistance by the enemy, but it also could mean that the policymakers might find themselves beholden to an enraged populace in the homeland (rather than controlling the war, the war controls them). I think Von Clausewitz's ideas are very applicable almost 200 years after his death, but he's dangerous because he offers wikiquotable statements that don't mean what people think they mean. His actual opinion is distributed among several very convoluted paragraphs.

If something is to be considered “irrational” then it would be this sentiment right here. Imagine a rope tied to a sturdy object and then the other end on a block of weight, if too much weight is applied then the tension would lead to the rope snapping. This same law of nature also applies to humans. If tension is put in a brain then it would only be short until the mind eventually snaps. Like a volcano filled with pent up tension and pressure, erupting releasing all the magma built up inside. What she’s asking for is for the human mind to un-abide the laws of nature, she’s asking that we surpass life itself. Overcoming even the basic principles set to every being in this world. As a person who’s familiar with rage, i can say it myself that it’s simply unavoidable. And if it is, then it would be unnatural.
@Gorjak133 жыл бұрын
shes saying if you let your emotions consume and block you from thinking then you become a fool. emotions if not properly kept under control will only lead to disorder, chaos, and animalistic behavior. those who give into sadness will fall into despair those who give into anger will become savage those who give into pleasure will become intoxicated those who give into to fear will become cowards to become an advance human being one must be in control of their selves and only then we will find peace
@sixjhontongalamar9793 жыл бұрын
Based on context, which is the main reason for her speech, I believe that she only meant that they (the higher ups on the echelon) should not just base their action on logic but also emotion. Logic alone made them "not use their victory right" and led them further to an "illogical" continuation of the war. As such, she says that they should not just crush them "logically" where they (opponent) won't have any "capability" to harm them, but also crush their "any sign of hatred" which would remove also their reason to fight back. I don't know if you misunderstood her statement, but that "unavoidable" that you speak of is why she believed that the war will continue but the higher ups didn't considered.
@sixjhontongalamar9793 жыл бұрын
Besides, her statement is actually rational with the basis of "humans are both logical and illogical." Considering that they are fighting against governments that governs millions of people each, they should win logically while considering the irrationality of humans. Else, war will continue until the empire is destroyed.
@fluffymyato33343 жыл бұрын
Tanya never said that we should solve the irrationality of humans at all. She's saying her higher ups should take that into consideration. This was after she was stopped from attacking the enemy's remaining forces. This was more like a warning to the higher ups who celebrated too early and let their guard down just because of a treaty.
@chocofrvr26033 жыл бұрын
@@Gorjak13 and here’s my argument here. Yeah what you said is true and I took that into account, what I simply meant to say is everything has it’s limit or breaking point. Every man and woman can choose to suppress these emotions and it’s only a matter of time until emotions start to well up. People could resist these desires but only to some extent. This is why suppressing too much emotion could lead to serious mental instability that then leads to either mental illness or brain damage. Refusing to function as a normal human being could result to losing one’s humanity, a fate far worse than any type of suffering in the world. Unable to smile, unable to laugh, unable to cry, unable to weep... and unable to love... I cannot think of such as cruel as this. And the human mind knows this. That’s why it so desperately avoids it by using the thing we call “emotion” you either have more of it, or less of it. A ratio of which determines who you are as a person.

In my opinion those who say she is wrong is wrong in of its self. She is saying this from all she has expirenced also she is not say all humans are like this not everyone has a strong will and even then sometimes those people break too but the point she is making is that humans can and will do irrational things in the heat of the momment moreover she is not placing herself on a pedestall she is just acknowledging that humans do these things when they are pushed to their limit
@clothar233 жыл бұрын
All Tanya did was point out Humanity's greatest strength and its greatest weakness. It's a irrefutable fact that by its very nature can neither be right or wrong. Anyone thinking otherwise is soft in the head. It doesn't take a lifetime of war to know Humanity is likely the most irrational creature in existence. Tanya realised when she was still a middle aged executive. Seeing the battlefield only reinforced her awareness of it.

I know hundreds of persons with way harder lives than me, which is the reason I try to never treat anyone harshly. But I did live through my fair amount of pain, like anyone, after going through a big depression which lead me to a form of nihilism during pretty much 4 years of my life. I hope each and everyday for a world where everyone starts to understand each other, like I try to do everyday. I'm at peace with myself, I don't need much money. I'm happy with mostly that and my passions. I don't care about recognition either. I can appreciate the world for how truely wonderful it is. Being nicer to everyone really helped me reach this. Before, I was just a mess. Didn't care about anything or anyone. I went to wonderful places and meet incredible persons without ever caring. I just wanted either the entire world to disappear, or myself. I would also make fun of people for no reason. I was the worst, an ungrateful naive idiot if you ask me. This mindset is honestly shit. So everyday, I feel better knowing it's nothing more than a bad memory now. I don't know why you took that so negatively. Maybe someone has told you something similar before, and really didn't change after all? I know some people that did this, and it really hurts. So I relate with you. But you need to get through that first sensation of sadness and anger. Once you do, you'll start seeing things more positively, I can tell you that for sure. Anyways, I wish both of you to be happy, everyone deserves it.
