I actually expected it to penetrate. Two ounces of a material harder than lead is hard to stop. I haven't done any calculations but the energy from two ounces of brass spread out over the area of the nose of that projectile has to be pretty high PSI.

I'm still confused how this went through. It has all the opposite traits you want for high penetration. It also did jack shit to the aluminium plate. Also, in older vids slugs designed for penetration got stuck in the lead plate without fully passing through. Maybe lead has some weird properties that makes penetration easier with a slow and blunt projectile?

@@Koichifirst It would depend on the slug speed vs the vibration hertz. It's due to the way they shed energy. Aluminuminumium is far more elastic than lead and sheds it through vibration. Lead sheds high impact energy by heating up from solid state to liquid state, and getting moved out of the way by pressure. If you look closely, the penetrator makes a shift when it is almost through. At that point, it had lost enough energy it was no longer capable of melting the lead ahead of it, but still had enough energy to simply SHOVE it's way through the remaining lead. AR500 plate wouldn't give up so easily.

Years of shooting several .45-70 rifles has shown me that a big, slow, heavy, rather long bullet (~405-450 grains) with a very high sectional density has legendary penetration. That brass slug was a freight train.

You should cut a cross-section through the lead plates hole and do a cross-sectional analysis of the cavity shape and measure some spots out dimension and degree wise. Especially with the projectile clearly slowing down a few frames just before it exited. *Best wishes Danny. ;)
