Today we test out the third type of Anferov Bullets. Almost everything has been re-designed except perhaps the tail fins. These were quite difficult to load, to find the correct recipe of powder.
Again the challenge with these is using American powders for something that would probably be simple using Russian powders. We have not one, but TWO lead plate tests today.

Thanks to Dmitry for supplying these slugs and thanks to Bryan for shooting. Now that the OG has retired he becomes a guest shooter. Thanks for the video.

I love that this is one of the only channels where you can legitimately blame the gun or ammo every time.

I was a machinist 11 years, injection molding 2 years. A lot of work went into these shells. Also Kudos to Jeff for loading them. Keep trying to make them just right now easy to do everything effects the performance.

I think it would be pretty cool to see a compilation video of everything over the years that have penetrated the lead plate.

Back in the old days when people were pioneering 44 magnum loads they used to use Cream of Wheat loaded on top of the powder as a filler to take up the extra space. Not sure if that will help any in the future or not though but might be worth a try. Thanks for the video!!!

Your attention to detail is appreciated in explaining how to load these experimental shotgun loads Jeff. I’ve learned somethings that might have been bad for me or the shotgun by watching this awesome channel. Thanks Jeff.

Ryan is a very welcome addition to the videos. The 2 of you make a great pair. Very entertaining and interesting. I also like to see the loading process since I used to reload shotgun for trap shooting. Keep up the good work.

Jeff, there are a couple of things a friend introduced me to when shooting Black Powder with a reduced load that might help if you care to try them. He had a reproduction Colt .44 Walker pistol that takes 60 grains of BP. But if he reduced the loads to light target or to the loads of the 1858 Remington of 30 grains, he had a huge gap between the ball and powder that would effect the ignition. What he came up with, that was cheap and readily available, was to use "corn meal" to fill the space above the powder that helped to compress the powder charge and hold it in place. It also had the benefit of cutting the fowling in the refiling of the barrel. Corn meal could also be mixed with water to form a moldable past that would fill gaps better and drys hard. They would also disintegrate quickly. But if you try that, it might help to put a light coating or oil (Pam Spray) or a light spray wax for furniture if you are molding it to fins like this. Just to insure nothing sticks to them. It shouldn't stick to plastic anyway, but use for insurance on those you only have a small number to test. I've been using that corn meal in BP for over 20 years with no problems.

That has to be definitely one of the best lead plate shots where the fins got stuck. Thank you for another great video

Cream O' wheat works as an excellent filler as well, is actually used as a volume filler on the 577/450 Martini Henry round ( black powder)

That's impressive as all heck - both the design of the slug and sabots, and your creative loading......to say nothing of the results!
