More fun with Jeff! 😂 Great stuff! The green beans are nice touch! Regarding adding Pyrodex and steel wool for effect, that was a chef’s kiss! Back years ago, before I learned how to make flash powder, I used Pyrodex to make big boomers for July 4th. A toilet paper roll and lots of stranded packing tape were my materials of choice. I don’t want to suggest something dangerous, but a small mix of KClO4 and 5 micron aluminum powder as the effect would pack lot more potential energy into that space, but it might not be a good idea… Although if it didn’t explode in the chamber from pressurization it would explode a head on impact! Just spit ballin ideas! 🤭

the problem is that the more exiting powders are not something I would load into the barrel of a gun. Also, since it's rim fire, you could design it so that the rim of the blank sits off of the slug, giving it room to maybe deform a bit better

If you want the blanks to fire more consistently you need a impact 'ring' or impact point (like the pin on a hammer/bolt hitting the primer) my suggestion, get a steel spring that is almost as big around as the .27 blank, cut down the one side of the spring (length wise) which will make a bunch of 'rings' or mini washers, then just crazy glue them on directly to the blank shell on the BOTTOM of the primer point, that way at impact it should hit target - ring - blank - slug. That impact ratio should drive the ring into the base of the blank causing it to trigger.
@harrypeterson92872 ай бұрын
Probably not saying anything you don't already know, but if you drill holes in one of those magnesium fire starter blocks using a 1/8th inch bit you'll get very nice visual incendiary effects if you mix the shavings with regular 70/30 perchlorate/Al flash powder. Very hot and bright.
@deltab97682 ай бұрын
I was thinking you could just stuff some magnesium flakes in the cavity behind the blank. I didn’t even think to add flash, but that would make for a *spectacular* blow-up, hopefully at the target. I’m not sure what would happen if it went off before exiting the barrel. I also don’t remember what the Bureau would think of such things, I’m pretty sure they way more controlling about flash than they are for other pyrotechnics.
@harrypeterson92872 ай бұрын
@@deltab9768 I thought anything aerial with under 5 grams of composition was federally fine, I'm no lawyer though. If a person wanted to stay in the realm of propellants, a lot of the niche .22lr rounds that are meant to be especially quiet use a tiny charge of a VERY fast, uncoated double base smokeless powder. It should be a good bit more spicy than Pyrodex.

Additional components? Try a mix of micronized aluminum powder (you should be able to order that) and milled amonium nitrate (you can grind down the prills from instant cold packs) use diesel fuel as a binder. The AN will be your oxidizer and the aluminum will provide both fuel and bright flash. The diesel binding agent will also be a secondary fuel. Ideally - you should end up with a very thick dark grey paste. (you'll need to fart with ratios on your own - i've said enoug), The .27 blank should be energetic enough to initiate that. If it wont go, try some nitromethane as a binder instead (rc car fuel) - but it'll make the compound a little more shock sensitive.
