Looks like one of those tools that is easily broken, hard to clean, and lots of little parts to wear out... Then they don't show you all those places and situations where it cannot be used, like high ceilings and walls, where you can't easily get around, I challenge company to show the down side of this tool.
@lefyre12667 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about flat boxes in general or these specific type?
@superdoubt7 жыл бұрын
D. fyre I think my comment is self explanatory and relates to the "finishing boxes" demonstrated in the video, and remember that you have to lift the tool and the mud in it up to the ceiling all day if necessary, and constantly keep it filled and clean. Now, there must be guys out there who have used these and can attest, right? Meanwhile there are plenty of videos that show just how easy it is to finish the old fashioned way. That is why I question the value and ruggedness of a gadget tool like this. What happens when the mud starts to set up? What happens when you drop it? How often does it need to be cleaned? How many linear feet can you expect to finish with a single fill of mud?
@lefyre12667 жыл бұрын
Steven Marsh Flat finishing boxes are the "old fashioned way" they were invented in the 1940s by Ames tools, and are considered an almost mandatory tool for professional drywall finishers, I've been using them since the mid 70's. I know very few other "tapers/finishers" who don't own a set. Personally I own a 12", 10", 7", + a 3" and 2" for fasteners. I also have attachments that allow me to coat my cornerbeads, and I use the boxes to first coat my buttjoints. Too much Hawk and trowel or pan and knife will cause shoulder, elbow, wrist strain leading to early osteoarthritis, as I have seen in many colleagues. I was only trying to give you benefit of doubt about your knowledge of this staple tool and clarify whether you were just referring to the optional "power-assist springs" and "swivel handle" displayed in video, which IMO are unnecessary.
@lefyre12667 жыл бұрын
Steven Marsh To answer your questions, the tool is very easy to use and is not heavy loaded with mud, doing ceiling you plant it up and do the work with your legs, on walls you lean in with bodyweight, no no real effort involved. You use air-dry mud not setting mud, so that's not an issue. The tool fastens securely to the handle and should not ever drop, however replacement parts are available for each brand, I last replaced my tools in 2006 after a theft and they are still in working order. I store them in a sealed pail, so they stay wet always, never need cleaning. They have 5 setting that determine mud thickness, from a heavy load to a tight skim, so hard to say linear feat, you keep pump and pail nearby, so reloading tool takes only 5 seconds. Perhaps on large house, 300-500 sheets of drywall I will do all flats in 60-90 min at my age.

Thanks D. fyre I think you summed things up v well!
