+Premium Ropes Sorry,I have given it to my club member yet. And I have a question, what is tips to make the point switching core and outer tightly.

Put the cover into the core. Pull the cover tight. Taper the cover which is inside the core. Milke the core over the cover.

I have noticed this technique used for halyards on quite a few boats and am wondering what the advantages are to this method over an 'eye splice in double braid dyneema without using the cover'?

Hi Marcus. This technique, tapering, is espescially usefull to reduce weight of the halyards in the mast and also to have less friction on the sheaves. At the end of the tapered line you can still make an eyesplice to attach a dogbone or shackle.

Does the tapered part without the cover take more UV damage or wear and tear?

It's less protected off course. But only taper the part of the rope that doesn't need a cover. The fibre is UV stable and can be used this way.

Would it be OK to do this with 10-15 feet of tapering? Was thinking this would be a great way to reduce weight on a super light air spinnaker sheet. Just wondering if there is a point or length where it become impractical.

This is indeed a super way to reduce weight for a spinnaker sheet. Make sure the core is made of Dyneema fibers and make sure you keep enough cover to handle it through blocks/hands. By the way, we have made new video's on this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmeVc6J5iNWFm6M

You can taper any length since strength is provided by Dyneema core.
