Wow Evelyn! this looked daunting, overwhelming, but yet you walked your viewers through it like a seasoned coach and somehow, despite living on the other side of the planet i was interested in every detail of the rental market of Beijing?! Simply Amazing Evelyn! So fond of your life stories, they brighten the difficult days and tattered lives, uh rooms. So glad you're safely housed. Can't wait to hear what's next

15:07 it seems that the airvent of that restaurant is about the same height as your open balcony fence. So my suggestion is to block some lower part of the fence with some kind of plastic material. So that the wind will not blow restaurant air inside your room, instead it goes upwards in the air. That way your room can ventilate out moisture and in the summer it will block the sun.

I'm living in Hangzhou and found an apartment with Lianjia too, but luckily I didn't have any issues. The agent's advice to your landlord was very sheepish and unprofessional >.< Glad you're settled and I hope the catch isn't too much of a put off for you and you can be happy there!

Your final apartment looks a lot like mine in Feng Niao, brings back a lot of memories. I agree I thought it would be much cheaper to live in China but Beijing is VERY expensive and Haidian is a high class area so even more. I was able to live minutes away from work which was great. I saw your little keys with that blue fob, I so remember that, that got me into the gate (most are gated communities with security guards)
@LeiYuanHong8 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing, I moved to Haidian Beijing in 2009 and lived there for 6 years. I shared a lot of the same experiences you did, apartments are abundant, not hard to find but most are old like you mentioned, the newer nice modern ones were all priced way too high. I was lucky and got a great studio which was clean, landlord brought me a new bed, (I was lucky to rent from a landlord, not an agent which I was recommend everyone avoid at all costs if they can). Had an elevator and paid around 3500 RMB a month but that was over ten years ago and prices are always going up.

i’m so glad i found your channel!! i was born in china but moved to the states at the age of 3 so i’m unfortunately pretty disconnected from my people and my culture. with the strict tourism guidelines i haven’t seen my hometown or my family in almost 6 years, and additionally with the influx of asian hate here i want more and more to move back to china but it’s difficult to do as i got rid of my citizenship this year to apply to colleges easier😭 it’s also a bit hard to access or understand china based social platforms so your youtube vids are PERFECT!!! im glad i can get a glimpse into what living in china is really like :)) keep up the good work!!

I've had a few job offers for schools in Beijing - Haidian District, specifically. I just went on KZbin to get an idea of the neighborhood, when I came across your video. Holy Sh!t! I thought that Shenzhen and Shanghai were expensive! I'm not sure if I want to even move there now.
@tapiocapress Жыл бұрын
Beijing is not for everyone, but depending on what you are looking for, it's a city that has A LOT to offer. To me it feels like a city where people go to chase dreams, and the old alley ways in beijing (where I most recently lived) have a lot of character. Shanghai on the other hand is very westernized, and people are there to enjoy a lifestyle - so life could be more comfortable there in that sense. Shenzhen is a city that's been built very quickly, in the last 50 years, and personally I feel like there's not a huge cultural scene there. But, it's very close to hong kong, and is a very young city in terms of demographics...hope this helps - I know it's hard to pick a new city to move to. I'm trying to do the same. Good luck:)

What kind of part-time jobs can be done to pay rent? What all major things should be checked before renting an apartment from a student point of view?

Is 900 a month a good price for 1 room in china these days? More expensive than london and Ireland 😱
@tapiocapress3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your location - in a smaller city 900 is very expensive, but in the busy areas of Beijing/Shanghai you’d have to be REALLY lucky to get a decent 1b for 900 (I know it’s crazy!!😱)
@tapiocapress3 жыл бұрын
If you are talking about one room with roommates tho 900 is a bit high - you’d be looking at 500-700 for a room in a shared apartment

I just got a job offer in Beijing and these apartment videos are scaring me! The economics of Beijing make no sense to me. I don't really find it to be a very convenient or super nice city yet everything is 2-3 times more expensive than when I lived in smaller cities. Rent is 15X more expensive from what I am seeing.
