"If you don't learn this basic landing, you risk serious injury" I can vouch for that. I'd been going almost a year landing by bending my legs all the way. My knees are now not all that and I have taken an almost 8 month long break. I've been thinking about getting back into the game but I wanted to review EVERYTHING I'd thought was okay to find what I was doing wrong. It was this.

Gamerix / Rix agreed. I learned how to safety roll and I jumped from 7 feet up and went straight into a roll but that was on a thin mat. My rooms window is like 10 feet above the ground and there is a giant pole in front so my plan is to jump and use the pole as a guide to line myself up so I don’t fuck up my knees.

I know this is an old video, but I have to comment on the knees past the toes thing because I've had a personal vendetta against that idea ever since I first heard of it.. It's completely asinine to think that your knees should never extend beyond the toes, because they do exactly that in literally every movement you will ever do that involves your legs. Running, jumping, landing, sliding... every physical movement ever. Draw a line between your toes and your head. unless you are standing straight up or sitting with your butt planted, I guarantee that your knees are in front of that line. It's how they work. They bend forward to absorb shock and impact. This is why "properly done" squats are so dumb, because they force your back to do the work, and all but remove your knees from the equation. Knees should never end up so far in front of your toes as to throw your hips forward, but to say that they shouldn't go forward at all denies the very method by which they operate. Knees go forward, hips go back, and the world goes round. Stop teaching people the wrong stuff.

ScarDreamz Are you asking how high you need to be before you need to roll? I'd suggest rolling anytime you take a drop of 6 feet or higher if at all possible, or if you're not that high up, but you have to jump forward, such as if you needed to jump off of a fence and over a bush.

So... got locked out... took a 12-14 foot jump off my garage into my back garden because i knew the door would be unlocked. I knew i needed to roll to break momentum and push out off the object instead of drop (even if i wanted to guttering and bushes prevented hanging drop).This was a month ago... got locked out again today and decided I should probably learn how to take this 12-14 foot drop properly so I don't fuck something up. Turns out it was a good idea because I was landing with a lot of pressure on my heels even though I tried to land on the balls of my feet. Reassuring I have most of the technique down so now i have less to focus on next time I get locked out :P

Note: if the most advanced landing you know is the slap landing, don't jump off of something higher than about 6 or 7 feet. At that high it hurts your ankles and hands, and sometimes your knees. Its a pretty instinctual landing where you use your ankles and knees as shock absorbers before using your arms as braces, but you're not dispelling any momentum, and your body won't want to absorb much more than you get from 7ish feet high.
@willie28436 жыл бұрын

I just fell off a 7' retaining wall today. How to actually improve landing to absorb better at higher distances? I am trying to do everything right for a long time and it seems that the technique makes very little difference compared to just landing by instinct.
@Twowingstimmy11 жыл бұрын
New to parkor but in high drops you should roll. I'm may be new but I know logic. The human body has limits, the joints in your legs can't handle everything so from a high jump you should go for a roll because it seems like it would "catch" the jolt of the land and with the roll push it, in a sense, "out" of your body.
@AlexGrey.mp310 жыл бұрын

A few days ago I jumped off a 1 and a half meter ledge onto rough ground. I couldn't do a roll as it was too rocky. I landed on both feet, not putting too much weight on either, but as I landed I fell forwards. I grazed my knee and cut my hand. What was I doing wrong?

Your shoe looks so slippy. How do you do tic-tacs, wall runs or precision jumps with them?

I'm not kidding when I say this but before watching this video I already have the landing down perfectly! but I like to refresh my memory so I learned some more pointers!
