Tara Brach on Anger and Transformation [streamed live on June 10th, 2020]
The purpose of anger is to let us know there’s an obstacle to our wellbeing, and to energize us to act. While natural and necessary for survival and thriving, this powerful energy often possesses us and leads to suffering. This talk explores how we can use the RAIN meditation in our personal and societal life, to meet anger with a mindful, compassionate presence. Freed from the identification with a limited, separate reactive self, we can listen to the message of anger, draw on the purity of its energy, and respond from our natural intelligence, creativity and care.

Thank you. Extremely helpful to a Vietnam vet. I was raised in anger and only the last decade did it begin to fade. Your talk was extremely helpful.

Is it weird that in my early 20’s, I am really hooked with Tara Brach’s talks. My cynicism always takes over my body and so I always get this urge to listen to Tara Brach to keep me grounded.

Wow. This talk has been one of the most nuanced and wise interpretations on anger I've come across. For me, what you talk about in religious communities and anger being a moral wrong has been something I've really struggled with reconciling. This talk makes it more human and looks at the emotional experience functionally, as well as spiritually. Thank you so much for this, Tara

Thank-you Tara, your reference to the killing furkds partially touched a core as I grew up in a war and have held this enormous deep pain and anger around what it did to my home abd my people for decades and struggled to release it. I felt tonight that I made connections between it and My anger around my father's alcoholism also to fo with the ear that I knew existed but never put together in an emotional level. The work you do is truly sacred and healing, thankyou so much, you ate a healer the world needs. Namaste and love.

I’m on this video because I know I need to express or feel this anger. But I feel guilty about it. Scared. Fearful. But I behave spitefully. I have cruel and mean thoughts. I experience so much judgement towards others. Especially men. When Tara mentioned how women feel this, I really felt it. I feel like this anger is also an anger about how I’m supposed to be. How I’m supposed to let all sorts of shit happening and just let it. And then I feel angry and want to scream but I don’t know who at or where.

Fantastic insights. Growing up, I was punished for expressing any amount of anger. My whole life I have suppressed it and it has manifested as resentment, escapism and a host of psych and physical issues.

Absolutely incredible all around Tara, I have been feeling anger more lately... I also completely agree with your viewpoint on it. Anger can be a force for good but it's almost like an uncontrollable raging bull--we need wisdom to guide it. The ancient Buddhist texts are great but I have to admit I don't agree with them on anger and that bothers me. I feel like I am wrong for having a different viewpoint, but that's just the second arrow talking. Thanks for everything

Thank you Tara for this invaluable talk..Anger and fear seem to be ramping up as the November election approaches. It's very hard to stay calm in the midst of such flagrant disregard for our electoral process and the powerlessness to do anything about it...though I am getting involved

Unfortunately i have to disagree with the view about anger in some way being positive. Maybe it's nuanced but the christian notion of "righteous indignation" may be positive in very limited cases, while generally primal anger invites violence. And violence serves no positive purpose under any circumstance.
