Tara is a completely enlightened buddha and has promised to appear in the form of a female bodhisattva and goddess for the benefit of all beings she especially protects from the eight fears. Practiced in all Schools of Tibetan Buddhism Tara is second in popularity only to Avalokiteshvara. Her practices are found in all classes of tantra - Nyingma and Sarma.
The most common forms of Tara are green which is considered special for all types of activities, white for longevity, and red for power. The different forms of Tara come in all colors, numbers of faces, arms, and legs, peaceful, semi-peaceful, and wrathful. There are simple meditational forms representing a single figure and then there are complex forms with large numbers of retinue figures filling all types of mandala configurations. There are likely to be close to two hundred different meditational forms of Tara.

5:24 I think the double t has to be pronounced here and then the two words are not so similar to the ear. In Hungarian we have this gemination all the time. But anyway it was new for me that there is a Cittamani Tara as well.

In general, Jeff seems not to trouble himself too much with the precise pronunciation of Sanskrit. He's not unusual in this regard, even among experts. Pronouncing citta ("chit-ta") as if it was the English word "cheetah," as Jeff does here, is a widespread error among Anglophones involved in these traditions, both on the academic side and the practitioner side.

@@aaronweiss2738 It wasn't a general criticism from my part, I just wanted to mention this so maybe I can help others to differentiate between the two names. But it is probably right that coming from an English background the precise Sanskrit pronunciation is a harder task.

6:03 I've read somewhere that Chogyur Lingpa also revealed a Tara practice. But what I could not understand is the following. They said that it is a krya practice but with the view of anuttara yoga. So what is it then? Is it more about ritual like krya but has deeper understanding and results or maybe conduct?

yeah that is a really great question, I think that it might be because the Zabtik Drolchok has three sadhanas as part of the treasure root text, an outer, inner, and secret one, and the secret sadhana has the view of annutara yoga. Since the outer sadhana is kriya yoga, the conduct is kriya yoga, but since the secret sadhana is annutara yoga, the view is annutara yoga. That would be my interpretation, but I could be wrong.
