Last horse I met, that the owner yelled at it. He ended up with a broken orbit (blinding him as he smashed the side of his face) and damaged his front feet at one of the jump shows she took him to. She kept him and every time he was sound for his feet, she'd ride him at jump shows. He was a good horse when she wasn't around, but as soon as he heard her on property, he'd kick, bite, and act up all sorts. The only reason she had him was to ride him in shows. When I left the barn I worked for, she finally sold him to the farm for retirement (he was so sour she couldn't touch him anymore), but she brought in a new trackner for doing shows the same as she did with her blinded horse. I heard later that the horse was taken to a cross country show and died on the course. Was a jump at the top of a hill and then one right at the bottom with only maybe a horse length (if that) from the down side of the hill to set up for the jump there. Friend told me that the poor horse was whipped because he broke his leg and she didn't even care enough until the horse got up and his leg was broken badly. I never saw that horse besides when it arrived, but if she rode him the way she rode the horse I had known. That horse was probably soured, already hurting, and or that last jump was something it possibly didn't have the skill to handle with a angry rider. Seen too many riders who thought they were the best riders and treated their horses like it was the horse's fault for fidgeting, kicking out, and dancing around when the rider couldn't sit still or properly. These riders cuss and yell if they are corrected, the horse gets confused and starts to try to do everything that the rider is telling them to do, then jam the bit to pull the horses head one way or the other because they are getting angry at a poor confused horse who doesn't know why they are being punished for trying.

All I can say is it’s very obvious that Tara has the patience of a saint given how well ALL her animals behave! Had that been me I’m afraid she would have gotten a proper mouthful 😡 As you said Tara, had Farouk not had such lightning reflexes that kick would have caught him either on the side of his head, or his jaw-goodness knows the damage that could have done. I’m quite strong minded when it comes to horses who kick-either they’re red-ribboned AND made to stay at the back of any arranged meet or outing and if the rider has no thought for the safety of other riders and horses then they aren’t welcome to join.

But in fairness I felt sorry for kicker, obviously unhappy in that environment with a rider who didn’t take care enough to make things as safe as possible for her horse and others, not only that but thought good communication meant yelling at top of her voice at the poor horse, someone needs to tell her that horses have very good hearing ie the big ears on top of their head. Tara: I have watched this in slow mode several times and if you do the same you will see that those two girls set you and Tarouk up for that to happen. She looked back saw you coming. Then got up close to the other girls and she said something to her while smiling then she slowed up to get behind her and kept looking back watching and waiting and got over so her horse could kick Tarouk like that. Watch it again and you will see. Tara that was deliberate and I would definitely say something about this. Her horse could have done some serious damage to Tarouk. What an ignorant, rude rider and a dangerous horse! If this was the same lady screaming at her horse further on, I'm not surprised her horse is behaving like this! I hope you will report this! Poor Farouk, I hope he will not be too sore and his wound heals fast! He behaved wonderfully and BTW so did you! I would not be able to keep polite 🤬 after my horse was hurt! Love to Farouk ♥️🏇

Such poor riding (not to mention serious lack of manners!) from the kicker's rider. She didn't even ask if you were okay?! Anyone who has to resort to screaming at their horse like that lacks skills and confidence. She needs to go back to basics with a really good trainer on a horse that matches her skill set before venturing out again. So glad Farouk didn't sustain a serious injury. His calmness and confidence to continue are testimony to your skill. Beautiful partnership.

I used to ride when I was younger and went out competing up until the age of about 18 but then I left home and had a baby. At 28, i bought a wonderful horse called Barney. Had him two years now. Just need a trailer to get out and about. Looking forward to doing things like this again but as an adult I'm a lot more careful. You handled the situation very well 😊 and I love watching you ride out and about.

It was a delightful feeling to be "back in the saddle" and Farouk and you handled that kicking situation with grace and speed, though I wanted to turn around and say a few choice words to the rider! I also wonder….what happened afterward? Did the Hosting organization investigate and respond to the incident? In the dog show world, local and National kennel clubs have organizational documents establishing membership, governance, standards, rules procedures, etc., including Consequences for exhibitors and their dogs. I’m sure National, International, and Olympic equine events have governing rules, procedures and consequences for exhibitors and their horses. Isn’t there a similar obligation for equine pleasure riding clubs to have a written structure for membership, rules and procedures, governance, hosting events, Infractions and consequences, etc.?

Hi Tara, I am so sorry Farouk was injured by that other horse. The rider did not seem very concerned after the fact. Her horse was a kicker but her shouting at the horse makes me wonder how he is being looked after and trained. Brutal handling = brutal animal. I hope Farouk isn't swollen or bruised and the wound doesn't leave a scar on his coat. That horse had shoes and if it had clipped Farouk on the jaw or side of the head it would have been extremely serious. I hope you told the organizers about the two people on the two chestnuts. ❤ for Farouk.
