Love your videos, here as well as on LTR, favorite channels of mine on YT. Just one thing, accent related: it's "Tàranto" and "pizzica tarantàta"(also called "Tarànta"). Greetings from Rome, Italy❤

I studied with a guy that was investigating how the Catholic Church approached this practice. He went to the Jesuit archives in Rome to read 17th century correspondence of missionaries in the region. We lost touch, so I have no idea if this lead anywhere.

Nice works! Another cool link to of "pizzica" and some North African rituals- that's probably valid just for the Salento as far I know - is the use of colored drapes and around the "pizzicata" - blue for the water spider and so on, for each different type of spider. Every type of spyder requires a different theme/scale in the words of the violinist Luigi Stifani. The same use of different colored drapes as a stage/ring to confine/evoke different spirit is documented in the Maghreb by George Lapassase in "Essai sur la trance" . Congratulations on your excellent work🪷

This is magical, Filip. I love this music and dance. Dance and music have always been healing across centuries from many in different cultures across the ancient world from all that I have read. Taranatella is a family of folk dances. A swift, delierous Italian dance in 6/8 time. The different musical instruments used are wonder sounds. Also, did you know the accordion is one of the most difficult instruments to learn and the Scottish Bagpipes? The form was also adopted by many of the modern composers as Linzt, Chopin, etc. I love country Italy, with all its artwork and various creative art. It is a beautiful country with people from differnt backgrounds and dialets especially the countryside in many parts. (The wolf spider I did not know about.) One always learns from your videos. Thank you again. 🙏❤️🌏🌿🕊🎵🎶🎵

I was reminded of how it resembles the Zydeco music of southern Louisiana, which also makes you want to get up and dance

the structure of tarantella pair dancing is interesting too, because the pairs aren't fixed, and here too, 2 circles of dancers interact in every one dance.

Not sure myself, really. I have somewhat of an obsessive personality (with my interests). I think if anything I have very clear routines that I establish to get things done. And to be clear, I also have periods when I struggle greatly to be productive.

Many people, especially americans, think that tatantella is a general Italian music, but it's actually not. It's characteristic of the south. It would be like asking a New Yorker if he liked country music. Maybe he does, but thst music is not really representative of north of the US.

I get what you're saying, but have you been to the Northeast? The northeast is not only the costal cities, and if you come to my neck of the woods, Upstate New York, you can hear country music playing in the local hardware store, the Dollar General, your annoying neighbor that has put their radio outside and blasts that crap every F-ing day, you name it; it's all over the place. Likewise you see way more Confederate Flags then there should be for the part of the country that was the center of abolitionism and sent the most volunteers to the fight in the Civil War. I might wish what you said was true, but for better or worse, the "north" and the "south" are not all that different these days. It's an urban vs rural divide.

Wow, loved this topic! I always loved the tarantella, but never thought it had this deep connections with spirituallity. Looks like those two go together really often (music and spirituallity). On this order of thoughts, if i may, i would like to sugest a theme i belive you would love to look into and maybe give us your perspectives on. As a brazilian, it is very common for us to hear about the "terreiros", originally - and still, bu not only - the places of worship created by the enslaved people in the diaspora, but, afterwards, also the places where "samba" came to be. While samba came in popular taste, the brazilian religions of african matrix are still persecuted by the christian majority of our country, even if it dictates some of our most common traditions, like wearing white (or other colors, each with a meaning of a desire) and jumping 7 waves in new year - a ritual for Yemanja, the yoruba goddess of the seas (rivers, originally). Music and dance is a big part of those religions (also cooking, eating and drinking), for the rituals are celebrated as a happy gathering to recive the entities. A big part of this religions is about music, wich is a central part of the cult (the music, called "pontos", played and singed by the "ogãs", that calls the "orixas", the gods or spirits of nature), and a big chunk of brazilian music have strong influences from this african rythms, intrinsecly related with these religions. If you want to get a taste, i reccomend the Afro Sambas, by Baden Powell - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6mwYWePab2GfNU - a samba, as the name says it, with a lot of bossa nova influence (i feel you'll really dig this one); or Ponto de Nanã, by Mariene de Castro - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYi2eJKwgLd2gdk - wich is a "ponto" played in a more traditional ijexá style. There is also the syncretic aspect of the religion - enslaved people used to disguise their worship identifilying their gods with catholic saints - wich became an actual faith and created an incredible enviroment of tolerance with diverse perspectives, desctibed as reminiscent of the late roman empire, by Umberto Eco. I find it a really fascinating theme and i feel like it would interest you as well. If you would like to take a look into it, there are some religions like candomble and umbanda (the most widespreaded), the first one was deeply studied by french antropologist Pierre Verger, but there is a lot of studies done about it! Greetings!

It would be more correct to refer to the ecstatic ritual as Taranta, as opposed to tarantella (whose name can be understood as lesser taranta) still it's always nice to see these things brought to international attention
