Oxford is cute! In an odd looking sort of way! I want a wolf spider. I currently “tend to” 5 Carolina wolfies outside in my neighbors yard and in mine. Three are really good sized, I believe they are probably females, Big Momma, Big Bertha, and Big Betty. The other two Peanut and Cashew, are smaller, could be males or younger females I don’t know for sure. Peanut is one that is adventurous, I see it out during the day, and I have caught grasshoppers for all of them, and he came out and took the grasshopper right out of my needle nose pliers! I have water dishes out for all of them, shallow clay saucers, and I fill them twice a day. It’s been crazy hot here, and I’ve went out after dark and caught Peanut playing in the piece of wood and bark that I set up for him, and getting in his water dish. He’s the one I’d like to catch and keep, but no clue how to get him! I enjoyed Hilda being spicy!!

We need a different common name for those. They're not a camel and they're not a spider. They're also not wind and not a scorpion (other common name is wind scorpion). Also: No matter what you saw somewhere on the internet, the camel spider shown in the video is pretty much fully grown. These guys are relatively small. Sadly, they don't get old.

Just wanted to say that I got my Salem plush a few weeks ago and I’m absolutely in love with him! The addition of the little gummi worms with your plushies is such a cute touch and I bring him everywhere with me as my comfort object lol. So there we were deployed to Iraq. Weather in the 120s. Even the shade was sweating. You found shade when you could and so did EVERYTHING else that lived there including A LOT of OMG look at the size of that Camel spider ahh spiders. We got hit pretty much every day and night. Rockets and mortars and sometimes the CRAMs (pissed off R2D2s) would miss a few so a running we would go to the nearest bunker. Just slabs of concrete open on both ends. They filled up fast in some places so the last guys to get there usually slithered in under everyone legs. Up until that point those bunkers are summer vacation homes for anything looking for shade. Snakes, rats, scorpions and more of those OMG look at the size of that Camel spider spiders. They look A LOT bigger when you are laying on the ground face to fangs with them...... One guy screamed. We thought he was hit. His butt instinctively butt walked him away from the "monster" You know that scene from Jurassic Park where they run from a Trex into a waterfall and a snake scares the hell out the guy so he runs out and the Trex gets him? We call that immediate emergency threat management. Pick the least worst thing and make it your friend. Well out he butt hopped and since he was going that way and there were A LOT of boots moving around a few Camel spiders decided he was the lesser threat. I mean there they were relaxing in the shade when all of these giants came running right into their home. This guy stands up and brushes himself off when that immediate emergency threat management class he took and forgot flashed through his head. Things blowing up here and there made him come to the conclusion that he made the wrong choice and started to run back to the bunker when he saw a few spiders running after his shade.. These guys will chase your shade and let me tell ya they are FAST. 0He's running in zig zags coming back. The spiders are zig zagging with him. We are yelling get back in here and he's doing an end run trying to out move the spiders chasing him. He dives back into the bunker under our legs and once the dust settled and things stopped blowing up EVERYONE started laughing at the same time. Did that just happen? LOL Then someone said ONES ON MY LEG and dropped his hat onto the guy on the ground and said OH CRAP IT'S ON YOU NOW! I didn't actually see him leave the bunker.. There was just this outline of dust where he used to be. More laughing ensued. Good times.... Good times..... Sorry Rick. That hat might have been mine... LOL

@@tarantulakat I was in Army Aviation (UH-60s) deployed to Balad then Mosul. Balad had TONs of them. Some people had a collection. Nowhere as big as yours but the spider lovers were there. Camel spiders always make me feel sad they don’t seem to live long and they look so beautiful, he has a little problem with his back leg , I hope he lives longer as I am going through the change and I cry so much especially about animals! I cried on the phone to the local dog rescue a beautiful boy he needs a nice comfortable home for him to live the last few months of his life I explained I couldn’t do that because I was hysterical about a beautiful little dog thrown out like rubbish, we quickly established I would take any dogs for foster or adoption not the sick and dying ones ! 😢

I recently learned that low-frequency sound waves (80-400 Hz) can repel spiders, but certain other low-frequencies can agitate these creatures to where they attack. If that’s the case, do not use infrasound (20Hz and below), for those ultra low frequencies would probably send a spider into psychosis.

Wolfies are lovely. Although skittish they are normally very gentle and almost sweet. Well that’s been my experience. I must catch 1 up every couple of weeks that has come in on the dogs backs when they were snooping in the yard. I always worry when trying to find them a safe place back outside as so many things eat them here. The worst being the wasps who use them as an incubator 😖💀 hate those things. But the calmer I am when catching them the less skittish they are. I just love ‘em… Red Backs are the loveliest though as I’ve never seen a more gentle spider by nature.
