It is not just raw talent. She has spoken about how she learned to growl. Her inspiration came from a band called Otep. She said her first growls were at passing cars or in a pillow and how she hated that her growl sounded too female. It took her years to learn how to do that.

@@deminybs "Natural aptitude or skill." Talent is very real. Some people do excel in ways that others cannot, and ultimately, with a little luck, become very successful. Athleticism is literally evident in your most successful athletes. This isn't to say that "Hard work," (which in and of itself is exceedingly subjective) or persistence and continued practice, isn't required in order to hone or maintain a specific skill set. This also does not negate outliers who defy the odds and are able to overcome deficiencies that would otherwise prove natural inhibitors to specific goals. Simply put, I disagree, and stand by my original statement that Tatiana does indeed have talent.

I feel I need to correct Tara here! Actually vocal fry the vocal cords do NOT connect which is why, if done correctly, it doesn't destroy your voice. Using proper vocal fry you should need no rest, false cord screamers may need rest but vocal fry done right is almost 100% safe! A University study was done using a laryngoscope to see why metal singers don't destroy their voice over time doing this. They found the 'vocal folds' do NOT slap together, or make contact in any way, which is why it doesn't cause damage when done correctly! False chord 'screaming' on the other hand is usually very destructive over time! The vocal fry is an open articulation which is why it produces lower notes whereas false cord is a constricted articulation which is why it produces higher notes!
@justinrennick9503
@justinrennick9503 4 жыл бұрын
Good explanation my friend. You are also not projecting from your throat, your air should come your chest. It can mess up your voice if you project straight from your throat.
@Axe_Slinger
@Axe_Slinger 4 жыл бұрын
@@justinrennick9503 Exactly because the only way to project from the throat, which the huge majority of false chord screamers do everything constricts onto itself and as the air flaps the constricted vocal cords they slap against each other causing swelling and leads to likely formation of nodules and/or scar tissue (can't think of his name- the guy from The Used destroys his throat)! It can also, over time, cause paralysis of vocal cords. Fry vocals are always misrepresented as screamers, they are not! False chord=screamer Fry vocal=geowler
@Axe_Slinger
@Axe_Slinger 4 жыл бұрын
@@justinrennick9503 Dr. Izdebski goes on to explain that by using a very, very high-speed camera (16,000 frames per second - by way of contrast, note that a movie is traditionally only 24 frames per second) placed inside a singer’s throat, he was able to determine that the vocal cords of your average metal frontman or woman never collide, which is how damage to those cords is normally created: “The images that we recorded clearly show that it’s produced predominately, predominately by structures above the glottis. So, the vocal folds do open and vibrate but actually don’t collide, and the entire sick area above - aryepiglottic folds, arachnoids, epiglottis - everything claps and dances, basically, and creates vibrations and creates acoustic orchestration… It’s that the area above [that’s] very loose and the air turbulence that comes through. The air that comes through produces turbulence, and the turbulence produces the sound.”

No dear Tara, this is not produced by exaggerated fry. That would be very unhealthy indeed and while it can be done and it is done, it appears only sparsely for coloring, in no case as a permanent technique. This is done by completely opening up the larynx, pushing it way down, then adding a serious amount of pressure from the diaphragm while in the same time closing the false vocal cords. And of course it takes practice.

And it is considered the most confusing and dual sign. Because the symbol for pisces are the two fishes going in opposite directions. Yin/yang, light and dark, masculine/feminine. Tatiana the singer is actually a Pisces as well. And the fact that she sings softly and relaxed as well as the gutteral, growl, and scream is exactly what she was trying to portray of the duality of Pisces. We tend to act in opposite spectrums.

@@Tarasimonstudios I highly encourage you to revisit Jinjer. Check out "Teacher Teacher" or "Who Is Gonna Be The One" (Live) in particular. Look deeper into the meaning of the songs that they are playing, and how they inform the performance. Pisces is all about the characteristics of the astrological sign, one of the biggest pieces being duality, so the clear switching back and forth is HIGHLY informed by the content of the lyrics. I love the fact that you did this in the first place, but just tapping the tip of the iceberg when it comes to rock and metal singing, especially with female vocalists, is in my humble opinion, doing a disservice to a large percentage of the vocal music that is out there. I was browsing through your reaction video playlist and I noticed a theme revolving mostly around a lot of melodic and more traditionally clean sounding singers. Nothing wrong with that, at all, but I think that your followers could benefit from some additional vocal styles. Some suggestions on the female vocalist side Lzzy Hale of Halestorm Taylor Momson of The Pretty Reckless Joan Jett Lita Ford These are, as I said, just the tip of the iceberg. @@monksuu Good for you. Thank you for sharing. When I first found them it was NOT here, it was on another platform. It was titled "Tatiana", so I thought that was the bands name, as there was no other reference to follow. Pigiesrool was kind enough to help me figure out the obvious. What do you care? Are you offended? Wow. If this offends you then you may want to consider staying off of the web. Just a thought. ❄️

I think your reaction was perfect. My wife is like you, and Im like Jinjer. I reacted similarly. Ive never heard someone go from right to left, left to right so fast and SO WELL. She's amazing. My wife appreciated your reaction. She probably doesnt agree, but you cant argue, her skills and talent are on another level!!!

1:35 that's everyone's reaction. I'm gonna speak for every metalhead, Tatiana (that's her name) is Super talented. We haven't seen a female singer who can growl like that since Angela Gossow quitted from Arch Enemy. She's really talented. She's basically a monster. The best part of this is that she can perform live as good as in the studio.

@@KICKBIDENOUTOFOFFICE alissa is better in mixing good growling technique with super nice and dinamic clean vocals(something arch enemy rarely lets her do).Angela had super evil sounding growls and screams(fit the arch enemy feel better than alissas growls). Tatiana surpassed both,and her technique is still getting better with every album. Also arch enemy without women growling would sound like average melodeath band,while Jinjer instrumentaly is still insanely original,and songwriting is not straight forward like in a most of metal,everithing is in place even tho lot of their songs have some unexpected or unusual elements. cant get Perennial out of my head since its release

And she's been doing those growls for a decade with a relentless tour performance schedule. Oh, and she can take her growls way lower than that too (4 minutes into Who Is Gonna Be The One, for example).

I agree with you. And in my opinion Gossow is a way better growler than Alyssa. Also I liked this girl's style but her live performance remains to be seen. But it's cool as in studio vocals.

Having a pretty good experience with growling, we can see that her throat stays relaxed the whole time when she has that possessed voice. Back in my early days of growling i could get sore in a matter of second. I realised it surely wasnt the right way to do it. Some of my favourite bands were talking just fine in between songs. When I learned it properly I could go a long time ''screaming'' without even bruising my voice. To finish I would advise to anyone who'd love to learn to growl, If it feels tight in your throat you are doing something wrong with it.
